Freddie Highmore on his character in 'The Assassin': 'It was fun to play this role but...'
Keeley also revealed, 'The scripts are brilliant. Everything we could possibly need was in there. And then, you know, meeting Freddie, establishing this lovely relationship that we have very, very quickly.' read more Keeley Hawes, Freddie Highmore's show The Assassin is set to premiere on August 1 on BBC Player India, available on Tata Play Binge and Prime Video. In an exclusive interview with Firstpost, the duo spoke about its prep for its respective characters. Freddie: Personality wise, I don't think you're, an assassin. Keelie: I don't think I am. Freddie: I think you transformed for this role but I don't know if that's politically threatened in your presence offset, which is probably a good thing. Even though you were very good at doing your stunt stuff. Whereas I just had to sort of jump around in a very inelegant way. I don't know. I feel like in some ways well, what appealed to me was doing the sort of British sensibility to the humor, that kind of understated fun that underlies a lot of the, like, heavier stuff in this show. And I'd worked for a long time in North America previously on a couple of shows that went for quite a while. And so it was fun to be able to do this, and I'm not sure whether it was playing myself, but it certainly was fun to indulge the kind of European and the and the British sense of humor. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Keeley: Freddie is hilarious. So it's really nice to see his comedy chops. He's very, very funny, very good at comedy. So it's lovely to see that. I suppose the great relief for me was that, Julie has been out of action and retired for quite some time. So, there were no expectations on me physically to be in any sort of, you know, shape for the sort of action. She's literally sat drunk, on a beach where she has been for several years. So, there was very little training that went into that. It's about reading the scripts. The scripts are brilliant. Everything we could possibly need was in there. And then, you know, meeting Freddie, establishing this lovely relationship that we have very, very quickly. You know, that that did a lot of the work for me. And then, you know, then it's sort of seeing, how the story progresses and, what you need to get ready for as the, what you need to prepare for as the different episodes come up with the the challenges that each one of those brings.

Suriya's Etharkkum Thunindhavan did poor numbers, I take responsibility: Director
Director Pandiraj admitted the failure of his film 'Etharkkum Thunindhavan' (ET), starring Suriya. In a recent interview, he stated that the film did not do great numbers at the box office. However, he also claimed that Suriya's films that came after 'Etharkkum Thunindhavan' failed to surpass the collections of 'ET'.In an interview with Cineulagam, Pandiraj recalled how Suriya's fans lament about him not giving a hit to him, but to every other actor he has worked with. That's not true. I worked the hardest for 'Etharkkum Thunindhavan' for three years during Covid-19 time. But, it didn't work out, and it's not in our hands," he denied the reports of working less for Suriya and harder for his brother, Karthi. "I gave a big hit for Karthi with 'Kadaikutty Singam'. I wanted to give a bigger hit for his brother Suriya with 'Etharkkum Thunindhavan'. It didn't connect. I take responsibility. There were mistakes, I agree. But, one can't dismiss saying that I didn't work hard for the film. Honestly, I worked the hardest for 'Etharkkum Thunindhavan' during Covid-19 time without thinking about our lives," he added. Talking about the collections, he stated, "Suriya and the film's producer were happy. But, the film didn't collect much. It did do much numbers. That is the truth and it's sad."Pandiraj also made an eyebrow-raising claim about Suriya's films. "The films that came after 'Etharkkum Thunindhavan' didn't surpass its collection. One can ask anyone in the trade. It's the truth. But, we can't go around propagating that. It is true that the two films that came after that didn't come close to 'Etharkkum Thunindhavan's collection," he 'Etharkkum Thunindhavan', Suriya was seen playing the lead roles in 'Kanguva' and 'Retro'. Both films received a lukewarm response from critics and audiences alike. The actor is now gearing up for his upcoming film, 'Karuppu', directed by actor-filmmaker RJ Balaji. He is also shooting his upcoming film with Telugu director Venky Atluri.- Ends

New York shooting may have been prevented? AI spotted suspect with rifle minute before attack
A security camera at 345 Park Avenue in Manhattan reportedly flagged the suspected gunman as a potential threat just moments before he opened fire in the building's lobby on Monday. Four people were killed in the New York City shooting before the attacker took his own life. New York Police Department (NYPD) officers respond to the scene of a shooting at 345 Park Ave. in New York, US, on Monday, July 28, 2025. (Bloomberg) CCTV footage reviewed by Reuters shows the suspect, 27-year-old Shane Tamura from Las Vegas, holding an assault-style rifle. The image, timestamped at 6:26:52 PM ET, just over a minute before the first 911 call, shows Tamura outlined by a bright yellow box. How AI spotted NYC shooter moments before he opened fire According to two former federal officials cited by the news agency, the box was generated by an AI-based threat detection system designed to identify immediate dangers and alert building security, news agency Reuters has now reported. The system's role in the incident, not previously disclosed, raises questions about whether more could have been done to prevent the attack, the officials said.
