Man who was banned from Ireland for 20 years to face fitness to plead hearing
A man charged with breaching a court order which banned him from visiting Ireland for 20 years is to face a fitness to plead hearing next week.
Matthew Notman of Laburnam House, Laburnam Avenue, Kirkby in Nottingham in the UK, appeared before a sitting of Skibbereen District Court in west Cork in January of this year.

His appearance in court followed an alleged breach of an order made at Cork Circuit Criminal Court on June 30th, 2022.
The order was that Mr Notman was prohibited from communicating directly, or indirectly with a woman living in West Cork. He was also ordered to stay out of Ireland for two decades.
Sgt Tom Mulcahy previously told Skibbereen District Court that the accusation was that Mr Notman communicated with the woman on Facebook Messenger on November 13th and 14th, 2024.
It was also alleged that Mr Notman entered Ireland by ferry from the UK on November 10th, 2024. The case was sent forward to Cork Circuit Criminal Court.

Thursday a sitting of Cork Circuit Criminal Court heard from defence barrister, Paula McCarthy, BL.
Ms McCarthy said that a report from the Central Mental Hospital found that Mr Notman is not fit to enter a plea. A fitness to plead hearing will take place on July 3rd next at Cork Circuit Criminal Court.
Judge Helen Boyle was told that the State accepted the findings of the report from the Central Mental Hospital.
Judge Boyle said that she was willing to hear evidence from witnesses via video link next week if such a need arises. Free legal aid was previously granted to the accused.

Kneecap rapper Liam Og O hAnnaidh told Glastonbury he is a "free man" as the Irish rap band played to a huge crowd. O hAnnaidh, also known as Liam O'Hanna - or by his stage name Mo Chara - was charged with a terror offence in May and appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court earlier this month. The 27-year-old is accused of displaying a flag in support of the proscribed group Hezbollah at a gig in London last November, after video footage circulated online. He was released on unconditional bail ahead of a second court appearance in August. Before their performance at Glastonbury there had been calls from some politicians for them to be cut from the line-up. But they were greeted by cheers of support, and dozens of Palestinian flags waving in the audience, as well as Irish flags and a few "Free Mo Chara" T-shirts. On stage, they said it was the biggest crowd they had ever played to. Kneecap played the West Holts stage, which has a capacity of about 30,000, and the area was closed by security about 45 minutes before their set. They started with a montage of news readers covering O hAnnaidh's charge. "Has anybody been watching the news?" bandmate Naoise O Caireallain joked. They also thanked Glastonbury organisers Michael Eavis and daughter Emily for not bowing to pressure to remove them from the bill. In reference to his bandmate's upcoming court date, O Caireallain, who performs under the name Moglai Bap, said they would "start a riot outside the courts", before clarifying: "No riots, just love and support, and support for Palestine." Kneecap released their first single in 2017 and built a loyal fanbase in the following years. They rose to wider prominence in 2024 following the release of their debut album and eponymous film - a fictionalised retelling of how the band came together and their fight to save the Irish language.

Gardaí ask people to stop sharing videos after woman hit by truck in Gorey
Gardaí have asked people to stop sharing pictures and videos from the scene after a woman, aged in her 60s, was hit by a truck in Gorey, Co Wexford on Friday. The incident took place on Gorey Main Street at 10.45am on Friday morning. Advertisement The woman was seriously injured and taken to St Vincent's University Hospital for treatment. 'We would urge those in possession of videos and photos of this incident to be respectful to those affected by not sharing them online or in messaging platforms,' a Garda spokesperson said. 'Instead, please contact Gorey Garda Station on 0539430690 if you have information, recordings, CCTV or dashcam footage relative to the incident.' Local Fine Gael TD Brian Brennan said: "There were reports that unfortunately people were taking photos and videos at the scene. We ask that these are not shared on social media. If anyone witnessed the accident please contact Gorey Gardaí at 0539430690."
