Himax Subsidiary Liqxtal Proprietary Vision-Care Pro-Eye Monitor Named Finalist for Top Ten Age-Friendly Technology Product

TAINAN, Taiwan, July 29, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Liqxtal Technology Inc. ('Liqxtal'), a subsidiary of Himax Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: HIMX), and a pioneer in liquid crystal optical innovation, today announced that its flagship vision-care product, the Liqxtal® Pro-Eye Monitor, has been selected as a finalist in the 2025 Top Ten Age-Friendly Technology Product Awards, presented by the Taiwan Healthy Ageing Tech Show Committee. This prestigious recognition honors outstanding innovations that promote health, comfort, and quality of life for Taiwan's aging population.
Built on Liqxtal's patented electrically tunable liquid crystal technology, the Pro-Eye monitor projects digital images to a virtual viewing distance of approximately 16 feet, dramatically farther than the typical 20 – 24 inches of conventional monitors. This design significantly eases ciliary muscle strain and reduces eye fatigue, offering a more natural and effortless viewing experience, especially for seniors experiencing dry eyes or blurred vision due to extended screen use.
With Taiwan's senior population rapidly growing, technologies that support visual wellness are increasingly vital to long-term care and healthy aging. Since its debut, the Pro-Eye Monitor has garnered strong interest across healthcare, eldercare, and smart home industries for its potential to redefine visual comfort for older adults. Evaluated by a panel of experts from the Taiwan Ministry of Economic Affairs and academic institutions, its selection as a top ten finalist underscores Liqxtal's leadership in age-friendly innovation.
Liqxtal Pro-Eye Monitor will be showcased at the 2025 Taiwan Healthy Ageing Tech Show, held August 8 – 10 at Taipei World Trade Center Hall 1. Purposefully engineered to address age-related visual challenges, the Pro-Eye represents Liqxtal's commitment to improving elderly eye health through advanced optical technology. During the event, Liqxtal will also exhibit other smart optical solutions, including the Liqxtal® Dim, which integrates Liqxtal's proprietary pixelated liquid crystal light valve with Himax's WiseEye™ ultralow power AI sensing technology, empowering an intelligent system that automatically adjusts light transmittance based on ambient conditions, enhancing both comfort and safety for seniors in varying lighting environments.
'Liqxtal has been dedicated to advancing liquid crystal optical technologies to deliver eye-care solutions that provide both comfort and functionality,' said Dr. Hung Shan Chen, President of Liqxtal. 'Being named a finalist for the top 10 Age-Friendly Technology Awards is a significant milestone that reinforces our commitment to extending this transformative technology to a broader range of aging-related applications, bringing us closer to our vision of a smarter, healthier lifestyle.'
Liqxtal warmly invites media, healthcare professionals, and industry partners to visit Booth A805 at the Taiwan Healthy Ageing Tech Show during August 8 –10, to experience the Pro-Eye Monitor firsthand and explore how next-generation liquid crystal optics are shaping the future of visual wellness in senior care.

Spring, Texas-based Hewlett Packard Enterprise Company (HPE) delivers solutions that allow customers to capture, analyze, and act upon data seamlessly. Valued at $27.4 billion by market cap, the company provides servers, advanced storage products, high-performance computing, AI-driven platforms, and more. Shares of this global technology leader have underperformed the broader market over the past year. HPE has gained 9.9% over this time frame, while the broader S&P 500 Index ($SPX) has rallied nearly 17%. In 2025, HPE stock is down 2.2%, compared to SPX's 8.2% rise on a YTD basis. Moreover, XLK's 13.8% gains on a YTD basis outshine the stock's single-digit dip over the same time frame. HPE's underperformance stems from execution issues in the server segment and industry-wide challenges, including tariff uncertainty, evolving AI policies, and shifting demand patterns that affect order visibility. The company has implemented corrective measures, including pricing adjustments and inventory reductions. On Jun. 3, HPE shares closed up more than 2% after reporting its Q2 results. Its adjusted EPS came in at $0.38, down 9.5% year-over-year. The company's revenue totaled $7.6 billion, representing a 5.9% year-over-year increase. The company expects full-year adjusted EPS in the range of $1.78 to $1.90. For the current fiscal year, ending in October, analysts expect HPE's EPS to decline 9.3% to $1.57 on a diluted basis. The company's earnings surprise history is mixed. It beat the consensus estimates in three of the last four quarters while missing the forecast on another occasion. Among the 18 analysts covering HPE stock, the consensus is a 'Moderate Buy.' That's based on eight 'Strong Buy' ratings, one 'Moderate Buy,' and nine 'Holds.' This configuration is more bullish than a month ago, with six analysts suggesting a 'Strong Buy.' On Jul. 24, Citigroup Inc. (C) resumed coverage of HPE with a 'Buy' rating with a $25 price target, implying a potential upside of 19.2% from current levels. The mean price target of $23.40 represents an 11.5% premium to HPE's current price levels. The Street-high price target of $30 suggests an ambitious upside potential of 43%. What SA buyers want in a foldable phone

In South Africa, foldable phones are no longer a novelty. They've matured beyond their early teething problems, shifting from futuristic flex to functional form. Many global players are entering the market with sleeker designs, improved hinges and bigger promises but beneath the hype, consumers are increasingly asking smarter questions. Beyond the hype: Foldables face their reality check There's no shortage of headlines promising 'the most powerful' or 'the thinnest' foldable phone. The real test is clearer for South Africans Will it last a full day without a charge? Can it handle two SIMs? Does it work outside under our sun, not just inside a launch demo? Foldable smartphones are no longer just a flex. They're talked about as everyday technology, still cutting edge, but with more expectations built in – tech that has to prove themselves practically. This means addressing real-life pain points such as battery life, durability, multitasking, and day-to-day usability across different networks and apps. The reality is though, many of the most talked-about devices still appear to compromise with trade-offs. What most users want to avoid is: Short battery endurance Bulky designs that don't fold flat Fragile hinge mechanics over time Limited SIM flexibility Software ecosystems that limit choice For South African users, who often rely on dual-SIM setups, experience power cuts, and move across multiple apps and languages in a day, these trade-offs aren't just inconvenient. They're deal-breakers. Quietly rewriting the rules: HONOR magic V5 This is where the HONOR Magic V5 arrives with a quieter, but more meaningful kind of innovation, addressing the challenges directly. Instead of headline chasing, HONOR has focused on folding function back into form, with a foldable that's thin, yes, but also powerful, durable and considerate of how people actually live. 'We didn't build the Magic V5 to win a spec sheet,' says Fred Zhou, CEO of HONOR South Africa. 'We built it to win long-term trust.' The Magic V5 comes in at just 6.43mm thin when unfolded, with a reinforced titanium hinge, up to 5,820mAh battery as well as a dual nano-SIM support. Its AMOLED display is glare-resistant, designed for use under bright skies, not just in glossy press events. Importantly, it doesn't force users into a closed app or ecosystem environment. It plays well with others, including the full Google-native suite. Ultimately, it offers what it says it does: Industry leading 8.8 mm thickness Super Steel Hinge IP58 & IP59 Dust and Water Resistance Magic Portal 2.0 (which is shareable with iOS & MacOS) Duel SIM cards are available And it includes that impressive up to 5820mAh battery Designed for South African realities Mzansi moves fast, from entrepreneurs to students, content creators to lovers of the latest tech, we expect devices that adapt. Now, battery endurance, app flexibility, multi-SIM support and durability aren't just nice-to-haves. They're non-negotiables. 'A phone should adapt to your life, not the other way around,' says Zhou. 'That's the philosophy behind every part of the Magic V5. It's premium but also practical. Smart but real.' HONOR's Magic V5 introduces smarter software, power-saving modes built for unpredictable loadshedding, and a screen that survives in real bags, not just velvet-lined demo boxes. The Foldable truth? Innovation should feel invisible In 2025 and beyond, South Africans don't want louder launches. They want phones that last longer, work harder - devices don't get in the way but walk the journey with you. The HONOR Magic V5 isn't trying to out-shout its competition. It's quietly raising the standard and folding the noise out.
