Charli XCX defies bridal style with eye-wateringly expensive wedding ring
Charlotte Aitchison is now Mrs George Daniel after tying-the-knot in an intimate ceremony in London on Saturday. The 32-year-old pop sensation, better known by her stage name Charli XCX, and The 1975 drummer, 35, have been an item since 2022.
And on Saturday they swapped vows at Hackney Town Hall in front of their parents and a small crowd of close friends and loved ones. Photographs from the wedding day were splashed online - showing Charli and George beaming on the steps of the town hall where they married.
Fans fawned over chart-topping star Charli's cream coloured bridal gown - which wrapped around her body and was matched with a pristine white veil. Posing on the steps of the hall, Charli exuded an element of cool as she adorned shared and clasped the hand of her rock star husband.
Fans looking closely at her hand, however, will have noticed the dazzling rings that the Good Ones singer was sporting on her wedding finger. And, indeed, it would seem the star is carrying an impressive amount of bling on her finger - which one jewellery expert has valued at around £14,000.
Laura Taylor, engagement ring specialist at Lorel Diamonds, said of the engagement ring: 'Charli's engagement ring is a classic design that lets the diamond do all the talking, featuring a 1-carat round brilliant solitaire, set on a platinum band.
'Round brilliants are still the most popular engagement cut because of how much light they reflect from every angle, giving them the trademark diamond sparkle. If the stone is natural and of excellent colour and clarity, I'd estimate it to be worth around £12,000 to £15,000 (around $16,000 to $20,000).
'George made the perfect choice with this ring because it works with any style and will never date. Even though Charli's known for pushing boundaries elsewhere, her engagement ring is something she'll be able to wear for life.'
But it's not just Charli's engagement ring that dazzles - as her wedding band also stands out. Laura explains: 'Charli's wedding band is where she's really made it her own.
"Rather than going for a traditional band to sit next to the solitaire, or even an eternity band like we're seeing with other celebrities, she's chosen something much bolder.
'From the photos, it looks like a wide ring with a twisted overlapping design, again in platinum to match her engagement ring.
'It's chunky and very different to the delicate bands you usually see paired with solitaires. We are starting to see more celebrities choosing bold rings this year, like Dua Lipa and her chunky engagement ring."
The jewelry expert continued: "I'd estimate Charli's wedding band to be worth around £8,000 to £10,000 ($11,000 to $13,000), depending on the designer.
'The choice fits perfectly with the rest of her wedding look, as she wore a short white dress and sunglasses to her ceremony, skipping the usual formal bridal style. By pairing a classic engagement ring with a statement wedding band, Charli's showing you don't have to follow the usual rules."

Will the comestible wonders of Rye Lane never cease? Peckham's perma-packed main drag currently offers everything from indulgent Malaysian cookery (Janda Diner), to rooftop picantes (Forza Wine), one of the cheapest pints of non-'Spoons Guinness in London (Nag's Head), and impeccable Nigerian barbecue (Suuyar). The exact point where Saigon canteen culture meets the contents of Charli xcx's Dropbox Follow the smoke drifting across the road from Suyaar and you'll find the latest addition to SE15's substantial food trail, Lai Rai. A new-school Vietnamese with an adamantly 'no pho' menu, Lai Rai has local roots (it's run by the same family as nearby Bánh Bánh) but is a snackier, share-ier proposition than its big bowl-proffering sibling. Lai Rai's discreet shopfront is immediately rendered indiscreet thanks to a red-and-white striped awning nabbed from a passing funfair. Inside, Lai Rai continues with its endearing brand of intensity. Lit by red neon and with a clinical stainless steel counter, the rest of the small space is a jumble of high and low tables (there's also an airier, less full-on upstairs level); suggesting the exact point where Saigon canteen culture meets the contents of Charli xcx's Dropbox. We match the chaotic energy and start with a mango-muddled picante complete with strands of potent red chilli, and so begins a fast and furious assault of flavour. A bowl of slow-braised pork belly pieces, sweet and sticky nugs of crispy, crunchy, and fatty flesh, could be kids' cinema sweets, were they not pig. Lighter, but by no means less addictive, is the papaya jellyfish salad with pellets of juicy pineapple and smooshed tomatoes, all slugged together with peanuts, a windowbox of fresh Vietnamese herbs and yet more chillis. It glows the colour of a particularly lovely sunset and toiters adeptly across the tightrope of sweet/savoury. Another hefty 'small plate' is piled with fleshy beef tartare, cut with lumps of cucumber and simply begging to be scooped up with shiso leaves. On top are crushed crackers and another brace of peanuts, making this textural symphony perhaps more meat salad than pure tartare, but we're not complaining. Big plates aren't much different in size from their forebears, though crispy chicken leg, fried twice for extra crunch, is a beast of a thing, bobbing about on green herb dressing. We like it, but we like the mussels in coconut and lemongrass broth more, and are smug to have ordered the bahn mi (basically bits of baguette) instead of a side of rice, and set about soaking bread in the fragrant liquid until it almost disintegrates. Pudding is more simple, with fish sauce and vanilla caramel icecream a pescetarian take on salted caramel, and kumquat cucumber sorbet more like a frozen mint mojito than anything of its advertised ingredients. While Peckham might already have a million places to eat, Lai Rai has immediately marked itself out as one to visit very, very soon. The vibe A sweetly chaotic little spot for Peckham's fashion crowd.

Kendrick Lamar and SZA review — when one artist outshines the other
Co-headlining performances are a tricky business — one of the artists is almost inevitably going to outshine the other. At Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona in June, Troye Sivan's sections during Charli XCX's headline set often felt like ad breaks. The same was true of many of the R&B star SZA's moments during her sold-out concert with the rapper Kendrick Lamar at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Tens of thousands of fans bounced ecstatically to Lamar's meticulous, exhilarating delivery before popping out for a drink when SZA appeared. It seems her disappointing turn as Glastonbury headliner in 2024 wasn't a one-off. It didn't help that the drums were too loud for the majority of the show, often drowning out her vocals, nor that she missed out a few of her best tracks, such as Supermodel and Prom. Her penchant for dressing as an insect is interesting (she has said that this stems from her view that 'being a person is daunting'), and there was added excitement when she flew up as a butterfly for Nobody Gets Me. I was less sure about the giant ant she sat on during Kitchen, which stayed stationary until her dancers rolled it around a bit. She and Lamar do have one of the biggest hits in the pop canon together: the hopeful, romantic belter All the Stars, which they delivered from opposite sides of the stadium, facing each other on raised platforms. But are they friends? When did they meet? They gave no context for their decision to tour together; even if the motive was purely financial (and it is the highest grossing co-headlining tour yet, earning $254 million on its North American leg alone), they could have dressed it up with at least a hint of a story. • Read more music reviews, interviews and guides on what to listen to next Thankfully Lamar was brilliant as ever, playing on his continuing beef with fellow rapper Drake — the latter is suing Universal Music Group for defamation over Lamar's Grammy-winning track Not Like Us — and showing cheeky video clips of him at a mock deposition between songs. The feud may be petty, but Lamar's response in music has led to some crackers: the fiery, pyrotechnic-fuelled Like That was a standout. Of his older work, Backstreet Freestyle from 2012 was enhanced by exquisitely timed performances by his dancers, as was Money Trees and Humble. The Black Lives Matter anthem Alright hit as hard as ever. A band on stage wouldn't have gone amiss, especially for the piano riffs in Reincarnated. But in the end, less than two weeks after Drake's underwhelming gigs at the London festival Wireless, Lamar has once again firmly established himself as the superior artist.★★★☆☆Kendrick Lamar and SZA perform at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London, tonight, @timesculture to read the latest reviews
