Security forces recover 16 IEDs planted by Maoists; diffuse them on the spot in Jharkhand
The official communique was released by the Chaibasa police. The bomb disposal squad safely defused all the explosives on the spot, eliminating any potential risk to civilian lives or security forces, it said.
The search operation continues. Notably, Maoists are now restricted only to the Saranda jungles in Jharkhand as they have been wiped out from other pockets of the state. According to an estimate, around 85 - 90 Maoists are supposed to be hiding in the Saranda jungles, where they have planted thousands of IEDs, which have become a challenge for the security forces.
Even though Maoists have planted IEDs in the entire area, forces are advancing slowly into the jungles with full determination and have established several temporary security camps in their core areas, he said.
The state police have launched a joint operation in Kolhan jungles in November 2022 after a tip-off that some of the senior Maoist leaders, including Misir Besra and Patiram Majhi alias Anal Da, are hiding in that forest stretch, which is said to be strategically important.

Police officers attacked by villagers in Odisha
PHULBANI: Two police officers from the Kalahandi SP office were allegedly assaulted by locals while trying to apprehend a ganja trader in Dungeri village in Tumudibandha area on Friday. Police sources said in the morning, the two officers went to Dungeri to nab a youth who was allegedly involved in ganja smuggling. However, the accused managed to escape from their clutches. While fleeing, he reportedly told the villagers that fake police officers were chasing him with guns to kidnap him. Since the area is prone to Maoist activities, the police officers had gone to the village in a private car and were dressed in plain clothes. This led the villagers to suspect that they were kidnappers and chase them. Apprehending trouble, the officers fled Dungeri in their car. However, villagers intercepted their vehicle at Kurtamgarh toll gate and assaulted both of them and the driver. After receiving news of the incident, a team from Tumudibandha police station rushed to the spot and rescued the two officers and their driver from the clutches of the irate villagers.
