SINGAPORE – Voters who want to catch general election coverage with others can head to The Projector on Polling Day.
Singaporeans go to the polls on May 3, with polling hours from 8am to 8pm.
The independent cinema announced on social media on May 1 that it will live-stream election coverage at Cineleisure's foyer from 7pm on May 3.
'We especially invite all residents from Marine Parade-Braddell Heights GRC to join us,' it wrote cheekily. The group representation constituency saw a walkover on Nomination Day on April 23.
The Projector will have its own 'election' on May 3. It invites guests to cast a vote for either DC Comics superhero The Flash or Marvel Comics superhero Thor with a sticker, which they can get with every drink purchase.
A cinema outing would perhaps be incomplete without some snacks.
'Try our gourmet hot dogs and pizzas,' The Projector wrote.

Big red balls take over S'pore - now netizens don't want them to leave

You may have seen them - giant red spheres stamped with "SG60" popping up across the island. Since July 12, 195 of these eye-catching installations have appeared in neighbourhoods, parks, and city corners. While most are bright fire-engine red, six are decked out in the signature blue of United Overseas Bank (UOB), which is behind the campaign titled United As One Red Dot, launched in celebration of both SG60 and UOB's 90th anniversary. The balls have captured the attention and imagination of Singaporeans, with numerous posts on social media featuring them. Painting the town red Now one Redditor has asked if they could stay even after the celebrations have ended. "Each time I spot one when daydreaming on the bus, staring out of the train or walking along the road, it immediately brightens up my day," wrote user piopiolink, describing the installations - which range from 1.5m to 5m in diameter - as "hilariously huge" and placed in "super random locations". "One ball behind City Square Mall looks abandoned and lonely, while the one at Raffles financial district looks loud and proud," the Redditor said. "It just creates a playful atmosphere and I, in turn, feel like I'm living in a mega playground lol. My co-worker and I even started a WhatsApp chat between us just to see who can find more of these red ballball before National Day." The Reddit thread quickly filled with light-hearted reactions. Some users, like rabbitsssssss, floated playful suggestions: "Totally agree! Should start a red ball club." Another user, mn_qiu, lamented: "I guess they'll be removed and return at SG70." User FitYesterday7581 even created a family bonding activity out of it: "Me and my daughter love finding them. We had an idea that there were 60 to mark SG60 so have been trying to find them. But have just read that there's 195!! I don't think we will see them all." Even Member of Parliament for Pioneer SMC Patrick Tay got in on the fun, posting a photo of one of the red balls on Instagram. He encouraged followers to "look out, spot them, and grab a pic with these giant red spheres in and around Pioneer constituency as well as across Singapore." UOB is also running a contest inviting the public to snap a photo with the balls for a chance to win a $20 Grab voucher. According to CNA, the campaign was conceived by Adrian Tan, chief executive officer of Adplanet Group, together with Francis Tan, chief executive officer of Germs Digital, and Jayne Kwek, director of 3 Aces Advertising. "Singapore is a beautiful island with so much greenery, and it's actually the perfect canvas for an art installation. The idea was to paint the island with giant red balls that signify our little red dot," said Kwek to CNA. The balls are built to withstand Singapore's heat, rain and wind, and undergo weekly maintenance to keep them looking plump. If needed, replacements are deployed within 24 hours.

The Projector Leaves Cineleisure, Returns to Golden Mile Tower

Indie cinema The Projector has confirmed that it will be leaving Cineleisure and will hold its final screenings there on August 3. In a press statement sent on Aug 1, a spokesman for the cinema says that it will resume screenings at its original space at Golden Mile Tower from Aug 6. The decision to return to its home base came after negotiations for the en bloc sale of Golden Mile Tower on Beach Road concluded without a sale, says the spokesman. Ms Karen Tan, co-founder of The Projector, says that with the en bloc no longer moving forward, 'we have the chance to return home'. 'This isn't just a move, it's a return to our roots,' she says. The cinema began life at Golden Mile Tower in 2014 and has since become a mainstay in Singapore's cultural scene through its focus on screening independent films as well as hosting an eclectic mix of events. The Golden Village X The Projector collaboration at Cineleisure on Grange Road began operations in December 2023 in the space vacated by Cathay Cineplex, which left in June 2023. Golden Village operated three halls while The Projector operated the remaining three. In a joint press release announcing the project previously, the operators said the space would 'offer the best of both worlds'. 'It will have blockbusters and mainstream hits that moviegoers have come to expect from Golden Village and the rich selection of international film festivals, live events and alternative films that fans of The Projector have come to love,' said the statement. As recently as April 2025, The Projector announced that its Golden Mile Tower site will no longer be used for screenings and instead focus on events such as interactive film experiences, live music showcases and corporate venue hires. Its Cineleisure site would take over the job of daily screenings. The Projector's statement on Aug 1 says that audiences can continue to look forward to 'a programming slate planned by and for cinephiles'. In August, the cinema will present the Majulah Cinema! showcase of Singapore directors for SG60, a Paul Thomas Anderson retrospective and a 50th anniversary re-release of Jaws, among others. A separate statement by Singapore's largest cinema operator, Golden Village, says it will fully manage operations at Cineleisure from August 4, 2025. GV Cineleisure will also be available for venue hire, for corporate bookings and private functions. To celebrate the reopening and the upcoming National Day weekend, GV Cineleisure will roll out a series of promotions from August 7 to 20, including $6 movie tickets and free drinks.

The Projector exiting Cineleisure this month, Golden Village to take over operations on Aug 4

The Projector will exit Cineleisure this month, announced the indie cinema on Friday (Aug 1). The news comes days after The Projector revealed that it will resume screenings at Golden Mile Tower. Taking over the Cineleisure space is cinema chain Golden Village. The two companies previously entered a joint collaboration in December 2023 which saw them partnering at Cineleisure for fan events, gala premieres and interactive film screenings. With The Projector's exit, Golden Village will now fully manage operations at Cineleisure. The Projector's final screenings at Cineleisure will be on Aug 3, with Golden Village fully taking over on Aug 4. To celebrate the reopening and upcoming National Day weekend, Golden Village will roll out a series of special promotions from Aug 7 to 20, including movie tickets priced at S$6, as well as free drinks. In a statement, Karen Tan, the founder of The Projector said: 'We opened The Projector with a dream and a handful of indie films, and over the years, our audiences have made it into something far greater than we ever imagined. 'Now, with the en bloc no longer moving forward, we have the chance to return home. This isn't just a move, it's a return to our roots, a rewilding of sorts.'
