In the opening moments of the DC tentpole, Cooper appears as Jor-El, the father of Superman. The role was first brought to the big screen by legendary actor Marlon Brando in the original 1978 'Superman.' During a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Gunn said he cast Cooper with Brando's performance in mind, knowing he could keep with the foremost portrayal of Jor-El.
'I needed somebody who could play Jor-El, who had the stature of what we imagine that character to be,' Gunn explained. 'Somebody that could walk in the footsteps of Marlon Brando.'
Gunn previously collaborated with Cooper on the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' trilogy, in which the 'Silver Linings Playbook' star played Rocket Raccoon. The director said on an episode of 'Jake's Takes' that the relationship he formed with Cooper during those films made it easy to lock him in for 'Superman.'
'He's a friend,' Gunn said. 'We've stayed in close contact since the 'Guardians' movies, and I admire him greatly as an actor and as a director.' Gunn added that he called Cooper and asked, 'Hey, will you do me a favor? Come down, go to England, we're going to shoot you in a 3D environment, make a hologram of you, and you can play Jor-El.'
David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult lead the cast of Gunn's 'Superman' as the titular Man of Steel and the villainous Lex Luthor, respectively. Other cast members include Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), Nathan Fillon (Guy Gardner) and Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl).

Jurassic World Rebirth devours the competition at weekend box office

The summer tentpole films are rolling out, and as expected, Jurassic World Rebirth had a massive opening over the holiday weekend. The film opened to $91.5 million at the box office, more than three times the amount the runner-up, F1: The Movie, made the same weekend. It's also nearly double F1's opening (the racing film opened to $57 million the week before). Over the course of five days, Jurassic World Rebirth has racked up a respectable $147,304,630, more than F1 has made in its two weeks in theaters. Jurassic is the only debut on the box office charts, and it's off to a good start. However, its five-day total is comparable to what Lilo & Stitch made in its first weekend ($146,016,175; now sitting at the number seven spot, the film has grossed $972,720,147 worldwide and counting). However, Variety notes that Jurassic's numbers are down for the dino franchise. The initial reboot, 2015's Jurassic World, opened to $208 million; 2018's Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom opened to $148 million; and 2022's Jurassic World Dominion opened to $145 million. Those films also all had significantly higher five-day totals than Rebirth, though the downward trend for each suggests that people simply aren't as excited about the prospect of a Jurassic World anymore—perhaps the suspension of disbelief as to why people keep bringing their kids around raging dinosaurs has worn a bit thin. We'll see how Rebirth holds up when Superman flies into theaters this coming weekend. The other notable new entry on last weekend's domestic box office chart is the restored, remastered, and re-released This Is Spinal Tap, which sits at number 10 having made $931,737 in its re-opening weekend. The success has spurred some additional dates tacked on to the limited engagement, with new showtimes on July 7, 8, and 9. In a statement (via Deadline), Bleecker Street Distribution President Kyle Davies said, 'We are thrilled with these early results of our re-release of [Rob Reiner's] original This Is Spinal Tap. While showtimes were limited this weekend, and the initial engagement carries into Monday, we experienced sell-out shows across the country, demonstrating that interest in the world of Spinal Tap still 'goes to 11.' Glad fans and newcomers alike got a taste of these musical legends as we head into the release of Spinal Tap II later this year.' You can check out the full top 10, courtesy Box Office Mojo, below. SUPERMAN Star Edi Gathegi Confirms Multi-Project DC Deal and Talks About Post-Credits Scene — GeekTyrant

James Gunn's Superman introduced a lineup of interesting and cool new DC heroes, but one character managed to steal the spotlight… Mr. Terrific, played by Edi Gathegi. Now, Gathegi has confirmed that his time in the DCU isn't ending anytime soon. In an interview with Variety, the actor revealed that he signed a multi-project deal when joining the film. 'I know that I have a multi-project deal, but the specifics of that are unknown to me. What James is driving home is the idea that they're never going to rush into production with scripts that aren't ready, so even whatever they do have planned for my characters is irrelevant until the draft comes in and it's shootable. 'So I don't count my chickens before they hatch. I want to be involved in this universe in a major way, and whether or not that comes to fruition is just a matter of time and faith and other people's hard work.' Mr. Terrific enters the story as part of the Justice Gang alongside Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion) and Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), but by the end, he becomes a crucial player. Not only does he help Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) free Superman (David Corenswet) from Lex Luthor's grip, but his tech, 'T-Spheres,' is essential in preventing Metropolis from being consumed by a black hole. He also had one of the best action scenes in the film! And then there's that post-credits stinger. According to Gathegi, the tag was originally part of the main film before being moved to the end. He expained: 'That was originally in the movie. I wasn't there for the decision making, but to me, it's exciting because that's a promise. I don't know if it's a promise that DC is intending to make, but to have that moment at the very end of the movie, for me personally, is the full circle moment of me being unceremoniously killed before the big battle in X-Men: First Class to be kind of the last man standing.' He also revealed how he found out about the change: 'The day of the premiere, I got a text message from James saying, 'Heads up, just so you know, some things are different, and that scene is now the end.'' There's no official word yet on where Gathegi's Mr. Terrific will appear next, but reports suggest a solo series is being considered. Even if that doesn't happen, it seems likely the character will return in the Superman sequel, or perhaps even play a bigger role in the larger DCU rollout. Would you want to see a full-on Mr. Terrific series, or should he remain a supporting player in the DCU?
