Only one complaint on minimum wage violation by bus company, says HR Minister
Human Resources Minister Steven Sim stated that they are consistently conducting surveys and inspections to enforce the minimum wage rate.
"We urge all employers to comply with the minimum wage rate because this is a law that must be strictly observed. It is not a suggestion or a recommendation, but a rate that has been determined by the government," he said while speaking to the press after launching the MyFutureJobs Career and Entrepreneurship Carnival at a hall in the Seberang Perai prison complex on Thursday (July 10).
He mentioned that the Labour Department continuously monitors and carries out inspections to ensure full compliance with the country's labour laws, including the implementation of the minimum wage.
Sim was responding to questions about whether the ministry had received reports on bus drivers being paid below the minimum wage.
He noted that the ministry received a total of 27 complaints for various reasons from bus companies between last year and June this year (2025), with 19 complaints recorded this year.
"The complaints were mainly related to the enforcement of the Employment Act 1955 and salary-related issues. During the same period, we also received 75 claims for labour cases, including 21 this year," he said.
It was reported that some bus drivers are forced to rely on travel allowances and overtime, often sacrificing their days off to cover living expenses, with a basic salary as low as RM700 a month, or in some cases, no basic salary at all.
The Malaysian Tour Bus Operators Association has refuted claims that full-time tour bus drivers receive a basic salary as low as RM700 a month.

Nga SANDAKAN (July 10): Minister of Housing and Local Government, Nga Kor Ming continued the KPKT Sentuhan Kasih tour series in Sandakan today by inspecting eight major projects under his ministry's purview. This visit reaffirms the Unity Government's ongoing commitment to ensuring the welfare and well-being of the people in Sabah receive due attention. The tour began with an inspection of the upgrade works for waste cell construction at the Labuk Solid Waste Disposal Site. The Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) has allocated RM30 million to the Sabah State Government for this project, covering planning, supervision, construction, testing, commissioning and maintenance. This initiative is a key effort to strengthen solid waste management in Sabah toward community well-being and environmental sustainability. The visit continued to the building upgrade and related works project at Taman Singapore, implemented through the Malaysia Housing Maintenance Fund (TPPM) under the supervision of the National Housing Department (JPN). An allocation of RM500,000 was provided to repaint four blocks of Taman Singapore Apartments. KPKT also granted an additional RM500,000 to repaint other blocks in the same apartments. This project focuses on physical repairs and basic facility maintenance to ensure safe, clean and comfortable stratified housing. It is expected to be fully completed by 28 July 2025. During the same visit, Nga also inspected a community hall on Jalan Singapore that had been refurbished at a cost of RM400,000. Next, the delegation visited Sim-Sim Market, Sim-Sim Water Village and Elopura Market. KPKT has approved RM2 million for upgrade works at four markets: Elopura Market, Kim Fung Market, Pasar Umum and Sim-Sim Market. These upgrades include improvements to vendor stalls to enhance comfort for local traders. Additionally, KPKT approved RM400,000 for constructing a basketball court roof at Taman Indah Jaya and another RM400,000 to upgrade the Futsal Court at PPR Harmoni. These initiatives aim to boost the well-being of Sabah's residents. Nga and the KPKT delegation also visited Residensi PR1MA Borneo Cove, an affordable housing project completed on 19 May 2021. Located on a 9.53-acre site, the project offers 999 apartment units across three residential blocks, complete with facilities such as a multipurpose hall, playground, surau, kindergarten, childcare center, and futsal court. Its strategic location on Jalan Buli Sim Sim makes it an ideal choice for locals. According to the minister, the successful implementation of these projects results from strategic collaboration between KPKT, local authorities and the Sabah State Government. This close synergy ensures each project is well-supervised and delivers optimal benefits to the people. He further emphasized that these efforts align with KPKT's vision to strengthen community well-being and prosperity nationwide.

DBKL launches endowment fund for Kuala Lumpur's fiscal sustainability
KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has launched an endowment fund aimed at securing long-term financial sustainability for the city. The initiative marks a shift from traditional fiscal models, positioning DBKL as a pioneer among local authorities in Malaysia. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa commended the move, highlighting the growing financial challenges faced by DBKL. 'In managing a complex city like Kuala Lumpur, relying solely on the annual budget is no longer sufficient,' she said in a Facebook post. The fund addresses a projected deficit of RM325.9 million in 2025, driven by increasing public needs and rising operational costs. Pearly-Thinaah sign new BAM contract after months of uncertainty
