
Himachal: Cabinet gives nod to high-rise commercial complex in Shimla
The project aims to cater to the city's growing administrative and commercial demands, offering modern amenities, an efficient layout and ample parking.
In another decision, the Wildlife Wing of the Forest Department will be shifted from Shimla to Dharamshala. Its current premises will house the CPD KFW Project Office, which will in turn be relocated to the Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), Dharamshala office space.
In a bid to regularize employment, the Cabinet also decided to convert part-time Class-IV workers into daily wagers in various departments, who have completed seven years of continuous service as of March 31, 2025.
The Cabinet gave the green light to shift the District Jail from Mandi to Nerchowk, with the existing Mandi facility to be converted into an open jail for women. Sanction was given for the creation and filling of necessary posts to ensure its proper functioning.
A digital push was also approved with the formulation of the Himachal Pradesh Online Filing and Processing of Court Cases Rules, 2025 under the Revenue Department, enabling online handling of legal matters.
In transport, 350 new stage carriage routes were approved, including provision for private 18-seater tempo travellers to boost last-mile connectivity.
To regulate unplanned development, the Cabinet sanctioned development plans for Chintpurni (Una), Sarahan (Shimla), and Bhota (Hamirpur) special areas.
Strengthening healthcare, the Cabinet cleared the recruitment of 81 medical officers, 18 forensic professionals and 11 agricultural subject matter specialists.
Further, land was allocated for AIIMS Bilaspur's expansion and for setting up a Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Chamba.
The Cabinet also withdrew the earlier notification to upgrade Nagar Panchayat Sunni to a Municipal Council.
Additionally, the Jal Shakti Vibhag was designated as the implementing agency for drinking water supply schemes under the 15th Finance Commission.

India bloc to corner govt on key issues in upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament
New Delhi, July 19 (UNI) The INDI Alliance today decided to corner the government, during the upcoming Monsoon session of the Parliament over several key issues, including the recent Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor, US President's ceasefire and trade statement and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Bihar. In a virtual meeting held here, representatives from 24 parties from the INDIA alliancecame together to discuss on pressing national and political issues. The Monsoon Session of Parliament will commence on July 21. Briefing the media after the meeting, senior Congress leader Pramod Tiwari said that the alliance had reached a consensus on eight major issues that will be prominently raised during the session: Tiwari said that the issues included the recent attack in Pahalgam, Operation Sindoor, US President Donald Trump's statement on ceasefire and trade, alleged voter suppression in Bihar under the guise of "SIR", India's foreign policy approach concerning Pakistan, China, and Gaza, the controversial delimitation issue and increasing "atrocities against Dalits, backward classes, Adivasis, women, and minorities". He further stated that the alliance plans to question the government on other critical matters, including the recent Ahmedabad plane crash. 'We are united in our commitment to raise these concerns in a democratic and constructive manner inside Parliament,' said Tiwari. 'The Modi government can no longer afford to ignore the national interest. We want the House to function smoothly, but we also demand clear answers to the questions we bring forth,' he said. NHRC camp in Odisha to hear violation cases
New Delhi, July 19 (UNI) The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) will conduct a two-day camp in Bhubaneswar on July 21 and 22 to hear cases of alleged human rights violations in Odisha, according to a statement from the rights body here today. NHRC Chairperson Justice V. Ramasubramanian, along with members Justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi, Vijaya Bharathi Sayani, and Priyank Kanoongo, will preside over the proceedings. Senior commission officials including Secretary-General Bharat Lal and Registrar (Law) Joginder Singh will also be present. The Camp Sitting is aimed not only at delivering timely justice but also at sensitising state authorities on the importance of upholding human rights, said the statement. The Commission is expected to hear a range of cases including alleged attacks on journalists and human rights defenders (HRDs), crimes against women and children (including cases under POCSO), deaths due to snake bites and inadequate medical care, and rights violations related to flooding in Bhadrak, Kendrapada, and other coastal districts. Cases concerning witchcraft-related violence and trafficking of minor girls during the COVID-19 pandemic will also come up for hearing. The concerned State officials and complainants have been asked to be present to facilitate direct interaction and on-the-spot decision-making, as per the statement. Following the hearings, the Commission will hold deliberations with the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, and other senior state officials on broader issues related to the promotion and protection of human rights in Odisha. On July 22, the Commission will meet with representatives from civil society organisations, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and human rights defenders. A media briefing will follow to share key outcomes and decisions taken during the two-day proceedings. Since 2007, the NHRC has held Camp Sittings in multiple states, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, Gujarat, Assam, Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh, Manipur, Punjab, Kerala, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Nagaland, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Arunachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Odisha, as part of its commitment to strengthening human rights mechanisms at the grassroots level, said the statement. ED summons Google & Meta officials for questioning under PMLA Act
New Delhi, July 19 (UNI) The ED or Enforcement Directorate issued a legal notice to tech giants Meta and Google in an illegal betting app probe. ED summoned representatives from both companies to appear at its Delhi headquarters on July 21 2025. The Enforcement Directorate is a law enforcement agency of the Government of India. It is a watchdog of economic laws and combat financial crimes. The Enforcement Directorate alleged that both Google and Meta platforms played an important role in promoting the betting apps, which are under observation for financial crimes. The Enforcement Directorate is going to question these two tech giants due to the accusation of hawala transactions and violations of the PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering) Act. The PMLA Act is enacted by the Indian Government for preventing money laundering activities.
