Google launches new AI innovations to strengthen agri sector

Hans Indiaa day ago
Bengaluru: To strengthen India's agriculture sector and make AI models more sensitive to the country's linguistic and cultural diversity, Google launched a new agricultural monitoring and event detection (AMED) application programming interface (API).
The company also announced a collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur to build localised datasets on India's rich cultural tapestry. It will help in equipping global Large Language Models with better linguistic and cultural context at the local level. The new mechanism will provide information on crops and field activity across India that will eventually empower the ecosystem to build targeted solutions that support agricultural productivity and resilience, the global tech giant said in a statement.
The API details the type of crop on individual fields across India, as well as each field's size and corresponding sowing and harvesting dates. It will also provide historical information of last three years about the agricultural activity in each field.
'With AI research -- and especially with AMED building on the foundation of ALU -- we're working on accelerating crucial shifts, transforming broad insights to granular, real-time data, so that increasingly impactful solutions not only translate into benefit for India's farmers, but also bolster the nation against rising climate risks,' said Alok Talekar, lead, agriculture and sustainability research lead, Google DeepMind.
'At Google, along with charting new frontiers in foundational AI, which forms the backbone of many of our launches in the Gemini era, we have continued advancing fundamental research that addresses some of the most pressing challenges facing humanity,' said Dr Manish Gupta, Senior Director for India and APAC at Google DeepMind. By adding more localised data — such as various languages, dialects, and cultural quirks that aren't currently included in AI training — Google's Amplify Initiative seeks to fill in knowledge gaps in Large Language models.
'We're thrilled to collaborate with Google on the Amplify Initiative and open a new chapter in global AI development,' stated Dr Mainack Mandal, Assistant Professor, IIT Kharagpur.

Google Veo 3 AI Model Comes To Gemini Users In India But Only If You Pay Rs 1950 Every Month

Google Veo 3 AI videos are now available in India for people who have signed up for the paid Gemini AI Pro plan which costs Rs 1,950 per month. Google Veo 3 AI model to generate videos with audio is now coming to the Indian market bundled with the Gemini AI Pro plan for users. Veo 3 was introduced at the I/O 2025 in May this year and started its release with the US market initially and now people in many regions are able to access the AI tool to create life-life videos with audio. Gemini AI Pro users in India can access Veo 3 along with other features through the Gemini app on mobile, or the web version on the desktop. Veo 3 AI Model Releases In India With Gemini AI Pro Plan The Gemini AI Pro plan is the rebranded version of Google's Gemini Advanced subscription offering. Gemini AI Pro in India costs Rs 1,950 per month, and competes with ChatGPT Plus from OpenAI that is available for Rs 1,900 per month in the country. Google is even letting people access the Gemini AI Pro plan at Re 0 for one month before activating the paid version with full payment. 'Today, we're starting to roll out Veo 3 to every country where the Gemini App is available, including India, through the Google AI Pro subscription. Veo 3 lets you create 8-second videos, inclusive of sound. You can generate content featuring characters with synthesized speech, scenes enhanced with background music and sound effects for increased realism," Google said in a post. It is clear that Google is pitching the new addition as another reason for people in India to consider taking its Gemini AI plan rather than ChatGPT. So what does the Gemini AI Pro offer for its monthly subscription fee? Here's the list: Google's new Veo 3 AI model generates videos with ambient audio and background music. It is the upgraded successor to the Veo 2 model that has been around since last year. The latest version adds native audio which was not available earlier and more importantly, you can now create longer (8-second) videos using the video generation tool. People have been astonished with the quality of videos generated by Veo 3 and the audio sync offered. But all this became obvious when a recent report claimed that Google has used video dataset from YouTube to train the Veo 3 AI model. The report by CNBC has claimed that YouTube videos are helping Google train its Veo 3 video AI model and it is being used with over 20 billion videos that the platform hosts from across users and creators. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Google's Gemini Now Lets You Create Videos From Old Photos Using Veo 3: How It Works

Last Updated: Veo 3 is available with Gemini AI Pro and Ultra plans in over 150 countries and the new feature is part of the setup. Google unleashed Veo 3 AI model at the I/O 2025 in May which is now available in over 150 countries, including India. The new AI model lets you create videos using text prompts and you can even add audio sync for the visuals. But did you know that Google is making it capable of generating 8-second videos out of your photos? 'You can create short videos in minutes in Gemini Apps. Simply describe what you have in mind and watch your ideas come to life in motion – whether you're creating for fun, sharing with friends, or visualizing a concept," Google's Gemini page points out. Google's Photo To AI Video: How It Works To use the new feature on Gemini AI, you need a personal account and subscription to Gemini AI Pro or Ultra plans. People below 18 years cannot use this feature with their account. You can follow these steps to create an AI video from a photo using Gemini. As you can tell from these details, Google is not making these features available for free, but don't be surprised if the company does a U-turn and makes it compatible with all personal accounts in the coming months. Google is offering limited use of the feature, even if you have the AI Pro or AI Ultra plans. The company says the ability to generate a video from a photo is not available in the European Economic Area, Switzerland, or the United Kingdom. Google Veo 3 AI model to generate videos with audio was recently announced for the Indian market bundled with the Gemini AI Pro plan for users. Gemini AI Pro users in India can access Veo 3 along with other features through the Gemini app on mobile, or the web version on the desktop. Gemini AI Pro in India costs Rs 1,950 per month, and competes with ChatGPT Plus from OpenAI that is available for Rs 1,900 per month in the country. view comments First Published: July 15, 2025, 08:52 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas to students on BigTech: You got to live with that fear, they will ...

Aravind Srinivas, CEO, Perplexity Aravind Srinivas , CEO of AI search startup Perplexity, gave a blunt piece of advice to the aspiring entrepreneurs at Y Combinator's AI startup school: expect your ideas to be copied by Big Tech companies. Srinivas revealed that at the launch event Perplexity allowed its chatbot to crawl the web and now all the rivals companies such as Google , OpenAI and Anthropic have the similar browsing functionality. So 'you will have to learn to live with that fear'. Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas warned students on BigTech As reported by Business Insider, speaking to the undergraduate, graduate and PhD students, Srinivas warned that the big tech giants such as Google, Meta and OpenAI are constantly looking for new revenue streams which can easily replicate any new innovation and also looks promising. "If your company is something that can make revenue on the scale of hundreds of millions of dollars or potentially billions of dollars, you should always assume that a model company will copy it," Srinivas said. Srinivas also shared his own experience with Perplexity. He revealed that in December 2022, his company launched its answer engine with the functionality of real-time web crawling. Soon, the same feature was adopted by rival companies like Google's Gemini, ChatGPT and Anthropic's Claude. "They will copy anything that's good. I think you got to live with that fear," Srinivas said. Srinivas also asked the young founders to work 'incredibly hard' and don't get discouraged by imitation. He also urged the founders to keep on working on creating a differentiated products and resilient brands. Perplexity's communications lead, Jesse Dwyer also believed in the same sentiment and told Business Insider that the Big Tech companies not only copy your features but they also try to drown your voice. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it legal? 'Browser wars should be won by users, and if users lose Browser War III, it will be from a familiar playbook: monopolistic behaviour by an 'everything company' forcing its product on the market," Dwyer told BI. OpenAI to launch AI-powered web browser In related news, OpenAI is reportedly gearing up to launch an AI-powered web browser that could directly rival Google Chrome, as reported by Reuters. This upcoming browser aims to redefine how users interact with the internet by embedding ChatGPT-like functionalities into the browsing experience itself. Features may include real-time summarisation, voice commands, contextual memory, and smart search optimisation across websites and media platforms. If OpenAI successfully attracts even a portion of its 500 million weekly ChatGPT users, it could severely disrupt Alphabet's ad-revenue model, which heavily relies on Chrome for user data collection and default search engine routing.
