Conor Bradley scores first Liverpool goal since Jota death after perfect tribute

Conor Bradley fired home the opening goal of the game at Deepdale after Preston North End and Liverpool had come together to pay tribute to Diogo Jota
Conor Bradley offered a muted reaction after scoring Liverpool's first goal since the death of the Northern Irishman's good friend Diogo Jota.
Right-back Bradley was on hand to turn home from close range after good work from Rio Ngumoha and Federico Chiesa in the first half of the Reds' opening pre-season game of the campaign at Preston, where emotional tributes were paid to Jota before the match.

After scoring Bradley then turned away and looked to the heavens, before turning to embrace the rest of his team-mates.

Liverpool's players had gathered in the centre circle for a minute's silence prior to the match, while Preston had produced a special free matchday programme in honour of both Jota and his brother Andre, and performances of Preston anthem 'Can't Help Falling In Love' and Liverpool's 'You'll Never Walk Alone' were sang before the game.
Bradley was one of Jota's closer friends within the Liverpool squad, and he attended the Cheltenham Festival alongside Jota, Scottish defender Andy Robertson and Irish goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher in March. Due to Jota's enjoyment of sports such as horse racing, Robertson, Kelleher and Bradley would often joke that he was more Scottish or Irish than Portuguese.
Writing on Instagram after Jota's death, Bradley said: "Where do I start what an incredible footballer but an even better person I feel really lucky to have spent a few years with you.

"Was always nice coming into the changing room in the morning and seeing you smiling and laughing and consistently calling me a hanger.
"Always remember the first time you invited me to your room to play FIFA I think everyone knows where this is going, we was playing and by half time I'm pretty sure I was 5-0 down that was the last time I was ever falling into that trap.

"When I first moved up from the academy you were always there for me and always helped me settle in with the lads which I'll be forever grateful for.
"My thoughts are with your wife, children and family for losing both Diogo and Andre. I can't imagine how tough this is for you all, as I know how tough this feels for me today. Love you jots and I'm sure we will meet again."

Claudio Braga's confession after Hearts transfer as his Tynecastle teammates leave recruit certain of one thing

The forward made his debut in the Premier Sports Cup rout of Dunfermline Claudio Braga admits his first taste of Tynecastle sent his heart-rate soaring. Now the summer signing hopes the excitement surrounding the new era in Gorgie can see Hearts skyrocket too. ‌ The Portuguese forward was blown away by the atmosphere on his debut in Saturday's 4-1 Premier Sports Cup win over Dunfermline that saw the Derek McInnes reign get off to a flier. ‌ Braga impressed on the left of midfield and looks set for a second run out against Hamilton in Cumbernauld on Tuesday. Tynecastle was only just over half full for the visit of the Pars. But the former Aalesunds ace can't wait to see the stadium rocking when the real stuff gets underway in a fortnight. He said: 'It was amazing. For the warm-up it was really good. And just when I came in for the start of the game it was great. 'It's probably the time I've played in front of the most people. The heart-rate was raised a little bit! It was exciting. 'Now I need to get used to it and hopefully we'll have a full crowd all the time. ‌ 'I was in the third league in Portugal and then in Norway there could be 10,000 people in the stadium, but not always. 'The supporters are so close to the players here. The environment is different, but I thought Tynecastle was great.' McInnes doesn't believe in honeymoon periods and has already stated his intention to go for silverware in the first trophy of the season. ‌ And Braga, who has yet to win a major honour in his career, shares that thirst for success after being impressed by his new team mates during the pre-season camp in Spain. The Jambos flopped to a bottom six finish last season and fell at the first hurdle in this competition after being humbled by Falkirk. But Braga said: 'This is a very good quality squad. 'I feel it can be a big season. We had a lot of hard training while we were away. We came here more prepared for the physical side than tactical. But we're getting there. ‌ 'This is just the beginning, first game, first test. A lot of people are still getting to know each other. 'I feel like things can be really good. I hope to get way better than last year. Top six should be at least the goal. 'But to be honest, I hope we achieve way more than that. Not just stop with this League Cup, keep winning and get as far as we can in the championship.' ‌ Braga is one of six new signings in the door and Hearts are expecting to complete two more this week with wingers Sabah Kerjota and Pierre Landry Kabore close to finalising deals. The 25-year-old netted 14 goals in 41 games for Norwegians Aalesunds last season. ‌ And he reckons he can get even better under McInnes - once he gets to grips with the physicality of the Scottish game. He said: 'He's a great guy and he can tell the message in a good way. 'Hopefully I can start way more and work with him, grow up as a player and get to know a bit more how should I adapt to Scottish football. ‌ 'He has been in Scottish football a long time. I can learn a lot. 'Saturday was hard, but it was good. It was physical but that's what I was expecting. The atmosphere was good. 'I need to live with the physical side of it. It's always different when you face that kind of football. ‌ 'Now I'm in the Scottish league I need to adapt and the type of football I'll be playing here. 'Dunfermline were hard, but I think a bit more gym work and I'll be better.' Braga played off a front two of Lawrence Shankland and James Wilson, both of whom got off the mark against Dunfermline. And he's already been stunned by 18-year-old Wilson's ability. He said: 'It's crazy how mature he is for his age. He has played for the Scotland national team and is still a great, humble guy. 'So that makes him better than if he was arrogant. At 18, if you achieve that much you can kind of do that.'

Forgotten ex-Rangers player seals move to overseas club

Jordan Rossiter was one of Steven Gerrard's first signings back in the summer of 2018, when he took over as manager of Rangers. He was one of a handful of signings from Liverpool as Gerrard tapped into his knowledge of the Premier League side's academy. However, things didn't work out in Glasgow quite like Rossiter hoped they would. The midfielder was plagued by injuries throughout his time as a Rangers player, which lasted until 2020 when he moved to Fleetwood Town. Rossiter made just 16 appearances for the Ibrox club, scoring once. Now, he has a new club following the expiry of his contract at Shrewsbury Town, having spent the second half of last season on loan at Oldham. He has moved to the League of Ireland to join Waterford. The 28-year-old commented: "I spoke to a few people here before I signed, so I knew it was a really exciting project here. I watched Friday's 2-0 win in the derby against Cork so I can't wait to get going now. 'I'm looking forward to working with John & Danny. I've obviously played against John's sides a few times when I was at Fleetwood & he was at Accrington Stanley. Read more: "I know what his teams are about – always going to be competitive & I'm looking forward to playing for him. 'I can bring a good bit of experience to the group. I just love playing football wherever that is, so whether that's Liverpool, Rangers or Waterford, I just want to enjoy my football, so I'm looking forward to getting out there on the RSC pitch.'

What Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry really think about each other as Irish pair gear up for Open battle

The brilliant Irish pair are close pals on and off the golf course and they've both spoken about their relationship Buddies Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry have become best pals in recent times. The Irish pair have won individual titles as well as teaming-up for triumphs at The Ryder Cup and The Zurich Classic. ‌ Ahead of the Open at Royal Portrush, McIlroy and Lowry gave an insight into what they admire most about each other. ‌ McIlroy was first in the media room and said: 'We've always been close, but I think we've become very close over the last sort of five or six years. "I think once we both had kids, or at least once I had kids or had a daughter and I see how Shane is with his daughters, and I just think, when I say like a role model, I just think about how he is off the course, how he is able to separate his family life and his normal life from his golfing life. 'Look, I know I'm in a bit of a different position, so it may be a little bit more difficult for me, but it's definitely a place that I strive to be in, to be as comfortable getting away from it as he is in a way and enjoying the fruits of your success and sharing that with your loved ones. That's one of my New Year's resolutions was to have more fun. I think Shane is very good at having fun, and I need more of that in my life.' Lowry gave his response on McIlroy's best trait and said: 'I think his constant work ethic. We have become quite close over the last number of years and I think it's helped both of us. I think I help him, but he helps me as well. I think I certainly feel like I've learned a lot from his work ethic and how I apply myself to the game now. 'Where we live in Florida, there's a lot of players that live there and you go up to the range and there's never a day that goes by where you get there and some of the top players in the world are not there. ‌ "So you're like, well, if all these guys are here, we need to be doing it as well. I think my biggest thing, he's done everything there is to do in the game. He finished that in April. And his constant drive to get better every day is admirable.' Lowry won in 2019 as McIlroy missed the cut and the 2019 winner said: 'I reckon that first tee that morning in 2019 was the most nervous I've ever been on the first tee of a tournament. All you want to do is get the ball down the fairway and obviously Rory didn't do that. 'I remember talking to him a little bit in the lead-up to that and he did put a lot of pressure on himself, talking about it being the biggest tournament he's ever going to play and stuff like that. You live and you learn and I'm sure he's not going to do that this week. 'We've talked about it at the odd time but not that much. He doesn't want to talk about what he did on the first hole. I don't mind talking about what I did!'
