MSI appears to have a new Claw 7 handheld coming.
Since January, there have been rumors of a third seven-inch MSI gaming handheld. This time, powered by an AMD chip.
Notebook Check has that rumor rundown, but the question is: Should we even care about this new Claw 7?
The original 7-inch MSI Claw broke our hearts because of inconsistent performance and poor build quality. This then made the MSI Claw 8 AI+ such a good redemption story.
In fact, I enjoyed playing with the eight-inch Claw 8 so much that I bought the Claw 7 AI+ (A2VM) — an upgraded version of the original with better triggers, joysticks, and Intel's Lunar Lake chipset — with my own, hard-earned cash.
MSI's Claw handhelds have been the flagship Intel-powered handhelds, for better or worse. With the strength of Intel's ultra-efficient Lunar Lake chipset, the Claw 7 AI+ and Claw 8 AI+ offer impressive battery life and strong graphics power.
But this new Claw handheld could swap out an Intel Core Ultra chip for AMD's Ryzen Z2 Extreme. MSI is expected to announce new hardware at Computex in Taipei next week, which could include this new handheld.
While the Ryzen Z-series chips have been a favorite of gaming handhelds since the first Ryzen Z1 hit the Steam Deck in 2022, the Claw's Intel chipset helped differentiate it in a sea filled with AMD-powered handhelds that just felt like a cheap palette-swap.
But what do we know about the Claw 7 A2HM so far? Let's take a look.
Specs: 2.2 GHz Intel Core Ultra 7 258V 8-Core, 32GB LPDDR5x of RAM | 512GB PCIe 4.0 SSD hard drive, a 7-inch FHD 1920x1080 120 Hz IPS touchscreen, an integrated Intel Arc 140V Graphics card, a Thunderbolt 4 port, a 3.5mm audio jack, a microSD card reader, Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax), Bluetooth 5.4, a built-in controller, Mystic Light RGB lighting, integrated Stereo Speakers, and Windows 11 Home.View Deal
The current MSI Claw 7 AI+ (A2VM) features Intel's Core Ultra 7 258V Lunar Lake chipset, with the Arc 140V integrated graphics tile, plus 32GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD, and a 7-inch, 1920 x 1080, 120Hz IPS touchscreen display.
Intel's Arc 140V graphics chip offers solid gaming performance at 1080p resolution and Medium graphics settings, which has only gotten smoother with recent Intel graphics driver updates for the Arc platform.
MSI's newest Claw 7 A2HM leaked thanks to a listing spotted on the EU version of MSI's virtual storefront and the Hi-Res Audio log. Neither listings include details on specs.
What we do know is simple: this handheld lacks the "AI+" tagline in the official model name. MSI's current naming convention includes "AI" if the chipset has an NPU, and "AI+" if that chipset includes a Copilot+ level NPU.
The lack of any AI branding has lent credence to the rumor that the new Claw 7 will ditch Intel's Lunar Lake and Arrow Lake platforms. Both Intel chips include an NPU, while AMD's Ryzen Z2 generation does not.
So far, all we know about the new Claw 7 A2HM is that it exists and will likely be announced at Computex next week.
Of course, the Claw 7 A2HM could be an Intel handheld using the Core Ultra 200H Arrow Lake chipset. Intel has hinted at Arrow Lake handhelds arriving this summer, and the MSI product page doesn't give us much other than a screen size.
But if the MSI Claw 7 A2HM is an AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme handheld like the Lenovo Legion Go 2, Asus ROG Ally 2/ Xbox handheld, and rumored Steam Deck 2, things could get a bit too crowded on the AMD side of the handheld pool.
Of course, AMD's chips have been popular for handhelds for a variety of reasons, and there are definitely folks who want an AMD-powered Claw. But personally, I think the Claw would just become a slightly more dragon-themed version of the Asus ROG Ally X or Legion Go 2 if we get a Ryzen Z2 Claw.
If the Claw 7 A2HM is an Arrow Lake device, it makes more sense considering MSI's close partnership with Intel on previous handhelds. The Intel Arc 140T integrated graphics chip boasts some serious gaming power and battery life and has a stronger CPU than the Lunar Lake variant, which would come in handy for your next RTS session.
And it's not like MSI has abandoned Intel for handhelds. The Claw 8 AI+ is reportedly getting a new black-and-white color scheme, as demand remains high for the second-generation Claw.
If the Claw 7 A2HM is an Arrow Lake handheld, it maintains the sense of individuality that has kept the Claw brand separate from all the other handhelds. Conversely, if it is a Ryzen Z2 handheld, it will be lost in the sauce.

This Artificial Intelligence (AI) Stock Looks Set for a Second-Half Comeback

Key Points AMD's upcoming MI400 release could be a game changer in the AI accelerator industry. Its embedded and gaming segments are likely coming out of down cycles. The forward P/E ratio implies the stock may not be as expensive as some might think. 10 stocks we like better than Advanced Micro Devices › Many artificial intelligence (AI) stocks have prospered as investors have become more open to the technology's potential. This is especially true for stocks like Nvidia and Palantir Technologies, whose successes are responsible for the AI boom in large part. Still, that boom has certainly not included all AI stocks, and many of them have had their share of struggles. Nonetheless, as their competitive advantages become more apparent, such stocks have tended to boom. With that in mind, one AI stock looks likely to stand out with a second-half comeback. The comeback stock The artificial intelligence stock set for a recovery in the second half of 2025 is Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD). Admittedly, this may seem like a strange pick given its performance in 2024. After an intra-day peak of more than $227 per share in March 2024, AMD stock steadily fell. Continued struggles in the gaming and embedded segments weighed on the stock, and investors further soured on the stock as its competitive lag with Nvidia in the AI accelerator market became more apparent. In early 2025, DeepSeek's breakthrough with lower-cost AI chips did not dampen the pessimism, as AMD stock briefly lost as much as two-thirds of its value in a 13-month period. However, April's closing low at just above $78 per share came amid investor concern over "Liberation Day" when the Trump administration unveiled its tariff plan. From there, the semiconductor stock recovered along with the market and further accelerated on June 12 when AMD announced the upcoming MI400 GPU. This next-generation chip will come installed in a server rack called Helios, and many analysts believe this will make AMD a more formidable competitive threat to Nvidia. That anticipation has helped AMD stock more than double from its April low. Improved financials Additionally, although its financials are forward-looking, they point to improvements in the other concerns with AMD, namely the struggling embedded and gaming segments. In the first quarter of 2025, embedded revenue dropped by only 3% year over year, compared to the 33% drop in 2024. Additionally, although gaming revenue still fell by 30% in Q1, it was a considerable improvement from the 58% decline in 2024. With that, overall revenue in Q1 was $7.4 billion, a 36% yearly gain. In comparison, revenue increased by 14% in 2024, representing a dramatically improved performance. That enabled net income to improve considerably, as the $709 million profit in Q1 was far above the $123 million profit in the year-ago quarter. Moreover, despite significant gains, the stock appears poised to continue rising in the second half of the year, and it is still more than 30% below its all-time high. Furthermore, notwithstanding the 116 P/E ratio based on trailing earnings, its forward P/E ratio of 40 is arguably a bargain considering the massive revenue and profit gains of the last quarter. As investors anticipate the release of the MI400, it should bode well for AMD for the rest of 2025 and beyond. AMD in the second half of 2025 Amid improving financial performance and technical gains in a key area, the second half of 2025 looks promising for AMD. To be sure, the stock has suffered as investors worry about its role in the AI accelerator industry, and indeed, segments such as its gaming and embedded segments suffered through a severe downturn. Nonetheless, the chip industry is cyclical, and it appears the gaming and embedded segments have begun to recover. More importantly, the MI400 could make AMD a more significant force in the AI accelerator industry as it hopefully makes competitive strides in its battle with Nvidia. Finally, while its P/E ratio makes the stock expensive, its much lower forward earnings multiple arguably makes AMD stock a bargain relative to the company's growth rate. Even if AMD does not achieve new all-time highs this year, investors have good reason to be bullish during the second half of 2025 as its prospects become much brighter. Second Quarter Earnings Season Update: Banks Beat

Banks provided a strong start to the second quarter earnings season. During this busy earnings week, ... More the crucial technology companies begin to report, including Google's parent, Alphabet. (Photo by Smith Collection/Gado/Getty Images) The second-quarter earnings season kicks into gear this week. 110 S&P 500 companies are scheduled to report, with more banks but also expanding to other industries. Notable companies scheduled to release earnings include: Domino's Pizza (DPZ), Coca-Cola (KO), ServiceNow (NOW), United Rentals (URI), and Intel (INTC) Earnings Season At A Glance As forecasted in last week's earnings preview, the banks got the earnings season off to a strong start. According to FactSet, a robust 83% of S&P 500 companies are reporting earnings above the consensus estimates. S&P 500 Earnings Season Summary Earnings Estimates Summary Companies reporting and combining actual results with consensus estimates for companies yet to report, the S&P 500's blended earnings growth rate for the quarter is at 5.6% year-over-year, above the 4.9% expectations at the end of the quarter. Notably, the expected earnings growth rate for calendar year 2025 is 9.3%, and for 2026, the expectations are at 14.0%. S&P 500 Earnings Estimate Summary Market Performance The S&P 500 rose modestly last week. The Magnificent 7, consisting of Microsoft (MSFT), Meta Platforms (META), (AMZN), Apple (AAPL), NVIDIA (NVDA), Alphabet (GOOGL), and Tesla (TSLA), outperformed. Market Returns Magnificent 7 Because these companies are critical drivers of earnings growth and a significant percentage of the S&P 500's market capitalization, the Magnificent 7 remains the group to watch this earnings season. According to FactSet, the Magnificent 7 should experience 14.1% year-over-year earnings growth for the quarter, compared to 3.4% for the other stocks in the S&P 500. The first of the Magnificent 7 is scheduled to report results this week, with Tesla (TSLA) and Alphabet (GOOGL) after the close on Wednesday. Tesla enters the week with low expectations, but Alphabet is expected to report robust earnings growth. The details for Alphabet will be necessary, as the stock has been held back by worries that artificial intelligence (AI) will disrupt their search business. While this disruption seems inevitable, the ability of Google to monetize AI-driven search will be crucial. Magnificent 7: Q2 Estimated Earnings Growth Earnings Insights By Sector Positive earnings surprises from the financial sector were the most significant contributor to the improved earnings picture. Better-than-expected earnings from JPMorgan Chase (JPM), Travelers Companies (TRV), Wells Fargo (WFC), Citigroup (C), and Goldman Sachs (GS) were the most significant contributors last week, according to FactSet. Earnings Growth Estimates By Sector Sales growth is closely tied to nominal GDP growth, which combines after-inflation economic growth (real GDP) with inflation. Following better-than-expected data last week, sales growth of 4.4% is ahead of the 4.2% year-over-year expectation at the end of the quarter. If the estimates of second quarter nominal year-over-year GDP growth of 4.7% are correct, there could be further upside to sales growth. Better sales results in the financial and healthcare sectors were the most significant driver of the improvement in expected revenue growth last week, according to FactSet. Sales Growth Estimates By Sector Dollar Weakness Versus Tariff Drag The US dollar weakened relative to the same quarter in the previous year. On the margin, this should benefit companies' international earnings. According to FactSet, 41% of S&P 500 sales are from international sources. Goldman Sachs estimates that a 10% depreciation in the US dollar increases S&P 500 earnings per share by 2-3%. Furthermore, companies tend to have an easier time outperforming consensus sales growth estimates during periods of US dollar weakness. Notably, the technology sector has the highest international sales exposure of all the S&P 500 sectors. US Dollar Weakness What To Watch Next Week Earnings should be the main event next week. There are some economic releases scheduled, but all are likely second-tier barring a considerable surprise. The better-than-expected retail sales report last Thursday provided more evidence that the US economy remains resilient despite the tariff increases, which drove the betting odds of a 2025 recession even lower. Betting Odds Of 2025 US Recession Despite noting that he is unlikely to fire Federal Reserve Chair Powell, President Trump continues to pressure him and refuses to rule out the possibility if fraud is involved. This conflict has the potential to add market volatility, with betting markets indicating a 21% chance of Powell's removal. Betting Odds Of Fed Chair Powell's Removal News about the administration's trade negotiations and new tariff announcements will continue to be a focus. Significant new tariffs are currently scheduled to take effect on August 1, unless an acceptable trade agreement is reached. The Financial Times reported that President Trump was considering tariffs of 15-20% on imports from the European Union, an increase from the current 10% baseline tariff.
