ICC Qatar launches Environment & Energy Commission to drive private sector leadership on sustainability
The Commission, unveiled during a high-level event in Doha on Wednesday, will serve as the country's premier platform for private-sector engagement on climate policy, environmental stewardship, and the energy transition. Aligned with global frameworks such as the Paris Agreement and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the Commission's establishment marks a significant step in reinforcing commitment to sustainability and economic diversification under the Qatar National Vision 2030.
The roadmap unveiled at the event outlines a phased implementation strategy, including the formation of dedicated working groups focused on low-carbon energy transition, sustainable water and desalination, and emissions mitigation through tools such as carbon markets and carbon capture. The Commission will also engage closely with national entities such as the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Kahramaa, and QatarEnergy, while fostering strategic alliances with international partners including the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), and the UN Global Compact.
Sheikha Tamader Al Thani, Secretary General, ICC Qatar highlighted: 'The establishment of the ICC Qatar Environment & Energy Commission represents a significant step in advancing our commitment to sustainability as a key driver of long-term economic resilience and private sector leadership. This Commission provides a dedicated platform for constructive dialogue, policy advocacy, and actionable collaboration between business, government, and global institutions.'
She also pointed out: 'Through the commission work, we aim to align with the objectives of the Qatar National Vision 2030, while actively contributing to international frameworks and initiatives. Together with our partners at the Al-Attiyah Foundation, we are confident that this Commission will catalyze innovative solutions and position Qatar's private sector as a leader in the global energy transition.'
Speaking at the launch, Colman Hands, Co-Chair of the Commission, emphasized the importance of private-sector leadership in addressing climate challenges. 'This Commission is designed to be a dynamic force, connecting policy, innovation, and investment in ways that can drive real change,' he stated.

Education, defence ministries discuss efforts to support school scouting programmes
QNA Doha The Ministry of Education and Higher Education held a coordination meeting with the Ministry of Defence to discuss prospects for joint cooperation in supporting school scouting programmes by involving personnel from the Armed Forces in educational activities aimed at instilling values of national belonging and discipline among students. In a statement, the ministry stated that the meeting was chaired by Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Affairs Maha Zayed Qaqaa Al Ruwaili and attended by representatives of the Ministry of Defence Brigadier General Talib Antar Al Marri and Captain Salem Mohammed Mahmeed. Commissioner-General of the Qatar Scouts and Guides Association Jassim Al Hardan also participated, along with a number of senior officials from the educational affairs sector. The ministry noted that the meeting addressed mechanisms for integrating a number of Ministry of Defence personnel as participating leaders in scouting programmes for preparatory and secondary schools for boys. This will contribute to developing students' leadership skills and sense of responsibility within a stimulating educational environment that supports character building and promotes active citizenship and self-discipline. During the meeting, the general framework for institutional cooperation between the two ministries was approved, and the strategic plan for implementing the project during its pilot phase was discussed. Job descriptions for participating personnel were defined, and tasks and responsibilities were clearly distributed, ensuring regular evaluation and continuous development in preparation for future expansion. This collaboration comes within the framework of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education's commitment to strengthening national partnerships that support the educational process, leveraging national competencies to enrich school activities, refining students' personalities, and developing their leadership abilities. It is in line with Qatar National Vision 2030, which places human development at the heart of its comprehensive development project.

QCDC celebrates youth empowerment at ‘My Career – My Future' closing ceremony
Tribune News Network Doha Qatar Career Development Center (QCDC), founded by Qatar Foundation (QF), marked the conclusion of the seventh edition of its flagship job shadowing initiative, 'My Career – My Future', with a celebratory closing ceremony at Multaqa (Education City Student Center). The ceremony brought together senior leaders from QF headed by Yousif A Al Naama, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of QF, alongside representatives from QCDC and 25 partner organizations, who came together to honour the achievements of over 250 high school participants. Over the course of five days, participants were immersed in real-world work environments across a diverse range of sectors, including Medicine, Aviation, Judiciary, Tourism, Engineering, and more. The programme provides high school students with the opportunity to shadow professionals across dynamic industries, helping them explore their interests, develop key skills, and align their academic ambitions with meaningful future career paths. 'This initiative reflects our deep belief in the impact of early career exposure and practical experience in shaping informed, confident, and adaptable youth,' said Saad Abdulla Al Kharji, Executive Director of QCDC. 'We are proud to see this program continue to grow, thanks to the steadfast support of Qatar Foundation and the collaboration of our esteemed partners. Together, we are nurturing a generation empowered to actively contribute to Qatar's sustainable development, in alignment with the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030 and QF's overarching mission to unlock human potential.' Aligned with the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030, the program plays a key role in building a knowledge-based society by preparing youth for meaningful engagement in the labour market. Participating entities ranged from Hamad Medical Corporation and Al Jazeera Media Network to Qatar Airways, North Oil Company, Ooredoo Qatar, Snoonu Trading and Services, Qatar TV, Qatar Olympic Committee, and the Investment and Trade Court, and various other leading institutions in the public and private sectors. Diverse sectors contributed to the learning experience, allowing participants to understand workplace dynamics and gain practical insight into careers aligned with Qatar's strategic priorities.
