Palace's appeal to compete in Europa League to be heard by CAS next month
July 30 (Reuters) - A closed-door hearing in the case of Crystal Palace vs UEFA, Nottingham Forest and Olympique Lyonnais will be held on August 8, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) confirmed on Wednesday. Palace were demoted to the third-tier Conference League by UEFA's Club Financial Control Body in a multi-club ownership case, while Olympique Lyonnais will be allowed to play in the Europa League. The Eagle Football Group are majority owners of Lyon while its chairman John Textor also owns a controlling stake in Palace. Textor later resigned from Lyon's board of directors with Michele Kang appointed chairwoman and president. The London club appealed the decision, with the CAS now confirming it will hear the case next month. Nottingham Forest, who finished seventh in the Premier League, will replace Palace in the Europa League if their appeal fails. Palace had qualified for the Europa League by winning the FA Cup last season, while Lyon reached the competition by finishing sixth in Ligue 1. However, the French club were allowed to keep their place as they finished higher in their respective league. No ruling is expected on the day, but a decision is anticipated on August 11.

Luton's ex-Spurs prospect Josh Keeley aiming to make ‘mad' new home a fortress
Keeley joined the Hatters on July 19 for a fee in the region of £1million after a three-year spell on Spurs' books. The 22-year-old Irishman never played for the north London club but, after successful loans at Barnet and Leyton Orient, holds a strong belief that he can become a top-flight keeper ahead of his competitive debut for Luton in Friday's League One opener at home to Wimbledon. Obviously I got a taste of being around the first team and what is is like to play in the Premier League,' Keeley told the PA news agency. 'I used to train with the boys all week, so I know and I have got a gist of what it is like. Hopefully in the foreseeable I get myself back there (in the Premier League). 'Luton have very high expectations. Obviously being a Premier League club (in 2023-24), we have got every aim to get promoted to the Championship first and then after that we can worry about going up again. 'This season is important. It starts this week, everyone is looking forward to it and hopefully we can push for promotion.' Keeley made headlines with his cup exploits, remarkably scoring against Oldham in November before starring in a 2-1 defeat to Manchester City, but talks over a new deal at Tottenham this summer stalled and he decided to find a permanent home. Ex-Luton player and currently Spurs first-team assistant goalkeeper coach Dean Brill sold his old club to Keeley, who ended up making his debut in a 0-0 pre-season friendly against Tottenham last weekend. Keeley added: 'It was kind of a quick turnaround for me during the week, so I didn't get to say bye to everyone, but yeah, I got to say bye to everyone (on Saturday), so that was good. 'Obviously I spoke with Dean Brill, the goalie coach. He played here as well and he sold it to me. He told me it was a great club and the people here are very good people.' Now Keeley has signed up to help Luton's bid for an instant return to the Championship, he is determined to make Kenilworth Road a fortress again – starting with Friday's visit of Wimbledon. 'I have heard a lot of things over the last couple of years, that it is a bit of a mad place to come,' Keeley said. 'My mates always used to say to me, because a few of them support Premier League teams, they have Luton away next week and they'd all say they're not looking forward to it, so it can definitely be a fortress.' The Hatters' often raucous stadium, where the unusual entrance for away fans at the Oak Road End is on a row of terraced houses, was built in 1905 and has a capacity of 12,056. He added: 'It can definitely be a place where people will struggle to come and get points from, so hopefully we can make it that way.'

European champions England to take on China at Wembley in November
The match on November 29 will pit the Euro 2025 winners against the Asian champions as China prepare to defend their continental crown in March next year. The last of those came at the 2023 World Cup, where the Lionesses triumphed 6-1 in the group stages. The match comes ahead of 2027 World Cup qualifiers, which begin next year. England head coach Sarina Wiegman said: 'After an incredible month and the celebrations this week, we are already planning ahead. 'It will be special to have a final visit to Wembley this year and something for us all to look forward to once the new season starts. 'Even though we have just finished the Euro, our World Cup qualifiers are not too far away. 'There are not many opportunities for us to play non-European opposition in the calendar, so I am happy we have been able to secure a top Asian side like China for this FIFA window. 'I'm sure China will give us a very different game to what we experienced in Australia. Whenever we face a squad where most of the players are based away from Europe or the United States, it is a new challenge. 'And with the start of the qualification campaign soon approaching, this will be valuable experience with the 2027 World Cup in mind.' Further fixtures for the Lionesses in October and November are set to be announced.
