Liverpool owners 'in talks over takeover of £100m-valued LaLiga club' - with FSG pushing to strike deal after backing the Reds big-spending summer

Liverpool 's owners FSG's big spending summer is set to continue with talks reportedly ongoing over a £100million takeover of a LaLiga club. FSG have overseen a summer of spending at Liverpool, with the Premier League champions having committed around £295million already in bringing in stats including Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike. The ownership are now reportedly set to press ahead with another significant outlay, amid reports they are in talks over a £100million takeover of Spanish side Getafe. Reports last month stated that the LaLiga side had been identified as the 'ideal club' for FSG to begin developing their multi-club model. The Athletic have reported that talks are now underway between FSG and Getafe's president Angel Torres over a staged takeover of the club. Torres had publicly denied Getafe were for sale last month and was previously said to have valued the club at £160million. His valuation is now reportedly around £100m, with talks said to be ongoing with Liverpool's owners FSG. FSG's pursuit of a second club to go along with reigning Premier League champions Liverpool has been ongoing in recent months. The pursuit among the reasons Michael Edwards returned as FSG's chief executive of football. 'It was vital for me that, if I did return, it had to be with renewed vigour and energy,' Edwards said last year. 'In practice, this means having fresh challenges and opportunities. As such, one of the biggest factors in my decision is the commitment to acquire and oversee an additional club, growing this area of their organisation. 'I believe that to remain competitive, investment and expansion of the current football portfolio is necessary.' Edwards was placed in charge of overseeing the identification of a second club, alongside former Boston Red Sox chief Theo Epstein. Reports earlier this year suggested FSG were pursuing a deal to buy Malaga, before cooling their interest amid legal hurdles. Getafe are currently in the process of redeveloping their stadium to boost its capacity Initial reports last month claimed FSG believed Getafe are the ideal club after conducting feasibility studies of several clubs, including Levante, Elche, Espanyol, Valladolid, Malaga and Bordeaux. Getafe's status as an established top flight club, the potential to develop players and the club's location in Madrid are reportedly among the factors in favour of the potential purchase. The club are also in the middle of a stadium redevelopment, which will modernise and take their Estadio Coliseum ground to a 19,000 capacity. Getafe's owner Torres, however, has claimed he will leave the club when the stadium redevelopment is complete in December 2027. Getafe have been a LaLiga club for the past eight seasons and finished 13th in the 2024-25 campaign. Next season will mark Getafe's the 21st season out of the last 22 that the club have been in the Spanish top flight. The multi-club ownership model became widely popular due to the success of City Football Group, which has included 13 teams with Man City at the centre.

Ruben Amorim identifies next two Man Utd transfers as soon as he signs new striker

Manchester United are desperate to sign a centre-forward in the summer transfer window, but Ruben Amorim also wants to strengthen two other positions before the window closes Manchester United want to get three deals wrapped up before the summer transfer window closes. United have made two significant additions so far this summer but still trail their Premier League rivals, who have been extremely busy. ‌ The club have spent £133.5million to bring in Matheus Cunha from Wolves and Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, while young left-back Diego Leon has also arrived after signing in January. United have found it hard going in the market, with Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City all completing more deals so far. ‌ They have missed out on the signings of Liam Delap to Chelsea, Hugo Ekitike to Liverpool and Viktor Gyokeres to Arsenal, with the lack of European football in the 2025/26 season putting them at an obvious disadvantage. Signing a striker remains the number one priority, with Mirror Football revealing that Ollie Watkins is the top target. ‌ The Aston Villa striker is keen on a move to Old Trafford, but United won't pay £60m for his services, hoping to shake hands at £40-45m. They have also held talks with Benjamin Sesko's representatives and he is an alternative. While a centre-forward is the top priority after a miserable 2024/25 season, Ruben Amorim still wants to strengthen elsewhere too. The Independent reports that they also want a new goalkeeper and a deep-lying midfielder. United are looking for a new keeper after a difficult campaign for Andre Onana, while Altay Bayindir didn't convince when he got a chance either. Onana was dropped by Amorim during the 2024/25 campaign, only for Bayindir to fail to take his chance when it came, too. They have been linked with ambitious interest in Aston Villa's Emi Martinez and Paris Saint-Germain's Gianluigi Donnarumma, as well as Newcastle 's Nick Pope and Royal Antwerp's Senne Lammens. Meanwhile, an athletic holding midfielder is wanted by Amorim following a succession of issues last season in the position. Casemiro does not have the legs to cover the ground required, Kobbie Mainoo is better further forward and Manuel Ugarte is yet to convince following his £50m move from PSG last summer. ‌ HAVE YOUR SAY! What should Manchester United's top priority be in the transfer window? Comment below. Amorim has recently explained what he's looking for in new signings. 'They have to want to come here. I think what we can do to the fans is that we want players who have proved [themselves] already," he said. 'Sometimes you have a player with a lot of potential, you have to be aware of that, but all the players that are coming, we need to know the player. We need to talk to the player, we have to explain the project. 'And then one really important thing is that they want to come here. That is the key point. If during the market we can find someone that can help the team and have all that boxes with them, we are going to do it. If not, we cannot do it because it's an important time in our club.'

Liverpool transfer news: Arne Slot given Alexander Isak warning as £120m saga rolls on

Liverpool's summer transfer splurge has not yet reached its conclusion but their pursuit of Newcastle's Alexander Isak shows no sign of reaching a conclusion Liverpool's transfer business so far this summer has been so impressive that even Rio Ferdinand has admitted he is blown away. ‌ But with Arne Slot 's squad already boosted by more than £250m worth of new talent, there remains an expectation that their business will continue with the addition of Alexander Isak from Newcastle in a transfer that would exceed £100m. ‌ A deal for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi is not being ruled out either ahead of a campaign of high expectations at Anfield. ‌ Premier League campaign gets underway. Isak saga Alexander Isak has been told by Simon Jordan to "buckle up" because Newcastle may well dig their heels in and tell the Swede that he's not going anywhere. The striker recently informed the Magpies that he wants to explore his options away from St James' Park with Liverpool now his most likely destination. Isak has not joined Newcastle on their pre-season tour with fitness cited as the issue and the ex- Crystal Palace owner Jordan has challenged Liverpool to get a move on with their recruitment and make a bid - while also insisting that the Magpies are well within their rights to protect their asset and their club. Wright decision Liverpool have agreed a deal with Salford City over a move for Will Wright. The Reds are set to beat Arsenal to the signing of the 17-year-old forward as they finalise talks with the player's representatives to get the transfer over the line. ‌ The Gunners agreed a deal with Salford earlier in the summer but now look to see their move hijacked. Arsenal were said to have first submitted a bid worth £250,000 plus add-ons for Wright, a figure greater than Liverpool's reported first offer of £100,000 plus add-ons. Target goes elsewhere Saudi outfit NEOM are close to completing a deal for highly-rated French defender Nathan Zeze with the 20-year-old set to choose the Middle East over a switch to the Premier League. ‌
