Heatwave in Europe disrupts train services, top of Eiffel Tower in Paris shut: Updates
Several parts of Europe are in the grips of the first major heatwave this summer, with health warnings in effect in multiple countries. A heat dome covered France, Portugal, Spain, and Turkey, with European forecasters indicating that other countries are likely to experience even more intense heat in the upcoming days, news agency Associated Press reported. Heat warnings were issued for parts of Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany, and the UK, with new highs expected on Wednesday before rain is forecast to bring respite to some areas later this week. Barcelona has recorded its hottest month of June since records started over a century ago, Spain's national weather service said on Tuesday. The Fabra Observatory, located on a hill overlooking Barcelona, reported an average temperature of 26 degrees Celsius, breaking records since 1914. The previous hottest average for June was 25.6 degrees Celsius in 2003.

Similar highs could be reached in Beja in Portugal, where a June record of 46.6C was recorded in Evora on Sunday. London could hit 34C, before cooling from Wednesday.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city recorded scattered very light to light rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in several areas. The maximum temperature settled at 35.1 degrees celsius, which is 2.3 degrees celsius below normal, while the minimum temperature was 25.2 degrees celsius—2.7 degrees celsius below normal. Easterly winds dominated the day, blowing at speeds of up to 15 kmph. Humidity levels remained high, with a peak of 98% and a minimum of 64%, contributing to the overall muggy feel despite relatively cool temperatures. Forecasts suggest the city will continue to witness overcast skies and scattered light rainfall throughout the week. The IMD has predicted generally cloudy conditions with very light to light rain accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning from July 2 to July 5, with no heatwave conditions likely during this period. Maximum temperatures are expected to hover between 31 degrees celsius and 35 degrees celsius. District-wise forecasts indicate similar weather across north, south, east, and west Delhi, as well as surrounding NCR areas such as Noida, Faridabad, Gurugram, and Ghaziabad.

Weather today: IMD issues orange alert in Shimla, Pune; Delhi to remain cloudy
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall for Wednesday at isolated places over East Rajasthan, Gujarat Region, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Rains in Shimla expected to continue, with orange alert issued by IMD for Mandi, Kangra and Hamirpur.(PTI) An orange alert has been issued in various regions, including in East and West Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and East Rajasthan for July 2. Along with this, hot and humid weather is also likely at isolated places over Tamil Nadu Puducherry and Karaikal. According to the Chandigarh regional Meteorological department, a yellow alert has been issued for various districts including Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Rupnagar and Patiala for heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning. Last month, Chandigarh recorded 213 mm rainfall which was 37 per cent above normal, which led to heavy waterlogging in the city. Meanwhile in Haryana, yellow alerts have been issued in Karnal, Rohtak, Yamuna Nagar, Jind and an orange alert in Ambala for July 2. Shimla rainfall to continue For the past few days Shimla has been hit by heavy rains with landslides worsening the condition. According to the Shimla regional Met Department, orange alert has been issued for Mandi, Kangra and Hamirpur, while yellow alert has been issued for Chamba, Kullu, Shimla, Solan and Bilaspur. The weather office also warned of surface run-off or inundation that may occur at some fully saturated soils and low-lying areas due to the constant rainfall. Moreover, light to moderate rainfall is very likely across most parts of the state on July 2, 3, 6, and 7, and at many places on July 4 and 5. Cloudy skies to prevail in Delhi For Delhi-NCR, there is no warning as of now and the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy with very light to light rain accompanied with thunderstorms and lightning. The maximum temperature is expected to remain between 33-35 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature could be between 25-27 degrees Celsius. No heat wave conditions will prevail. Orange alert in parts of Maharashtra An orange alert has been issued by IMD for July 2 in Pune, Satara and Kohlapur, while a yellow alert has been sounded for Raigad, Nashik, Jalgaon, Nagpur, Chandrapur and others. Overall, very heavy rain is predicted around Gujarat region, Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan and Goa region. According to the Mumbai regional Met department, the sky will be generally cloudy with intermittent spells of moderate to heavy rainfall in Mumbai and suburbs. Maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 31 degrees Celsius and 27 degrees Celsius in Mumbai.

Eiffel Tower shut for tourists as Paris swelters under heat wave
As heat waves grip most of Europe, the summit of Paris' Eiffel Tower has been shut for visitors with temperatures in France's capital expected to reach 38.3 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. According to a statement on Eiffel Tower's website, the landmark would close early at 4pm (local time). The website added a few advisory for the visitors which stated that the last entry for ticket holders would be 2:30pm (local time) and visitors without tickets are 'asked to postpone their visit until after Thursday.' Eiffel Tower's website also urged tourists to protect themselves from the sun and stay hydrated regularly during the period of high temperatures. The website stated that fountains are available along the paths leading to the forecourt for people seeking respite from the heat wave. The top of Eiffel Tower has been shut but the first and second floor of the iconic attraction remains open, however, staff are urging visitors without pre-booked tickets to postpone their trip. 🌐 Due to the heatwave, and to ensure everyone's comfort and safety, the summit will be closed through July 2.
