Southampton and New Forest pubs named among best in England
The watering holes featured in the guide were chosen by Will Hawkes, who made selections based on their "charming character, welcoming staff, rich history and award-winning beer".
In Shirley, the Park Inn made the cut, while The Royal Oak in Fritham near Lyndhurst was the only pub in the New Forest to be listed.
The Park Inn reacted to the news on its Facebook page, saying it hasn't been a "bad couple of years" after also winning Camra South Hants Pub of the Year in 2024 and being a finalist in 2025.

Will Hawkes said that while Shirley has "plenty of pubs", the Park Inn "beats the other hands down" in terms of atmosphere.
The Park Inn in Shirley was a stand out for the Telegraph, despite Shirley being home to plenty of pubs. For the Telegraph, Will said: "On a recent Friday afternoon, this tidy street-corner pub was busy at 5pm: locals sat at the bar, chatting amiably, while three pugs slumbered in the sunlight flooding in through an open door.
"Beer is served in immaculate condition, and for those who enjoy local specialties, there are Marmite-flavour cashews."
The Telegraph praised The Royal Oak for being a "family friendly" historic pub where "good walks" are nearby and pets are welcome.

Will explained that a sunny day at the New Forest pub "brings jeopardy as well as delight".
The Royal Oak in the New Forest was called charming. (Image: Paul S/Tripadvisor) He said: "This charming three-room New Forest pub is pretty small, all things considered, but it has a huge garden – so you can imagine what happens when it starts to rain (although a marquee helps take the strain).
"Run for the past 26 years by the McCulloch family, the Royal Oak's focus is on high-quality, traditional, local food (served only at lunchtime) and drink – from pork pies to ales brewed in Hampshire and nearby Wiltshire.
"Accommodation comes in the form of three shepherd's bothies."
The Royal Oak is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays but offers handmade from scratch woodfired pizzas on Thursdays.

Edinburgh community share airport 'birdstrike' fears over feckless fly tipping
An Edinburgh community has expressed their dismay after a 'travelling community' trashed a historical site with flytipped waste. Newbridge locals have been working alongside politicians and Edinburgh council to try to tackle the issue after a group decided to camp at Huly Hill Cairn which is a protected space. The standing stones in the area are believed to date back as far as 3,000 years which has led to the local authority fitting concrete blocks to try to stop the 'travellers' from returning. A Newbridge Resident Association member, who claimed human waste was also found at the site, shared their concerns over the issue of flytipping and even claimed seagulls were causing a nuisance to landing planes at Edinburgh Airport. 'The reason villagers were up in arms was because the travelling community decided to camp on a protected 3000 year old Historical Monument with standing stones,' he said. 'We had a very well attended public meeting in the local bowling club and three local councillors and Christine Jardine were present and they all seemed to understand our concerns. We then had concerns about seagulls and rats congregating in the area looking for food waste left behind. 'We had to contact Edinburgh Airport as the seagulls were flying directly in the flight path of landing aircraft. They sent representatives along to the area and confirmed it was a concern. 'The council laid large concrete blocks on a hopefully temporary basis to the entrances to the monument in the hope we do not get further encampments.' 'We're currently in the process of clearing the rest of the waste and this will be completed as soon as possible.' Edinburgh Airport have been approached for comment.

Air India flight to London aborts takeoff due to technical issue
An Air India flight from Delhi to London was forced to abandon take-off just minutes before it was due to depart on Thursday. The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner exited the runway due to a suspected technical issue, according to local reports. In a statement to PTI, an airline spokesperson said: 'Flight AI2017, operating from Delhi to London on July 31, returned to the bay due to a suspected technical issue." 'The cockpit crew decided to discontinue the take-off run following standard operating procedures and brought the aircraft back for precautionary checks.' Alternative travel arrangements were made for the passengers, with the airline dispatching another aircraft to fulfil the scheduled flight. Ground staff were also on hand to provide support to passengers. Another Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, operated by United Airlines, was forced to make an emergency landing after the plane's turbine stopped working earlier this week. This year has seen multiple plane-related incidents making headlines worldwide, including the tragic Air India plane crash in June. Air India has found itself in hot water following the tragedy, with an aviation watchdog finding 51 safety-related faults at the company during its annual audit.
