Both North Sea crash ships still on fire: UK Coastguard

LBCI11-03-2025
Both vessels were still on fire Tuesday over 24 hours after a cargo ship struck a jet fuel-laden tanker in the North Sea off northeast England, the UK Coastguard said.
The fire on the Stena Immaculate tanker had "greatly diminished," the Coastguard said, adding the cargo ship Solong was "still alight" and being "monitored" after it "separated" from the tanker late Monday night and began drifting southwards.

Israel says Gaza got 120 trucks of aid on day one of pause

Israel said Monday that more than 120 truckloads of food aid were distributed by the U.N. and aid agencies in the Gaza Strip on the first day of a partial pause in fighting. On Sunday, Israel declared a "tactical" pause in military operations in part of Gaza and promised to open secure routes for aid, urging humanitarian groups to step up food distribution. "Over 120 trucks were collected and distributed yesterday by the U.N. and international organisations," COGAT, an Israeli defence ministry agency overseeing civilian affairs in the Palestinian territories, said in a post on X on Monday. Russian plane with nearly 50 aboard crashes in country's east

The Russian plane reportedly crashed in a wooded spot near the town of Tynda in Russia's Amur region (Handout) (Handout/Investigative Committee of Russia/AFP) An Antonov An-24 passenger plane carrying about 50 people crashed in Russia's far east on Thursday and initial information suggested that everyone on board was killed, Russian emergency services officials said. The burning fuselage of the plane, which was from the Soviet era and was nearly 50 years old, was spotted on the ground by a helicopter and rescue crews were rushing to the scene. Unverified video, shot from a helicopter and posted on social media, appeared to show that the plane had come down in a densely forested area. The plane, whose tail number showed it was built in 1976, was operated by a Siberia-based airline called Angara. It was en route from the city of Blagoveshchensk to Tynda and dropped off radar screens while approaching Tynda, a remote town in the Amur region bordering China. There were 43 passengers, including five children, and six crew members on board according to preliminary data, Vasily Orlov, the regional governor said. The emergencies ministry put the number of people on board somewhat lower, at around 40. Debris from the plane was found on a hill around 15 km (10 miles) from Tynda, the Interfax news agency quoted emergency service officials as saying. UN brings fuel into Gaza for first time in 130 days

The United Nations managed to bring 75,000 liters of fuel into Gaza, the first in 130 days, the secretary-general's spokesman said Thursday, noting it was still far from enough to alleviate shortages in the war-torn territory. "We and our humanitarian partners need hundreds of thousands of liters of fuel each day to keep essential life-saving and life-sustaining operations going, meaning that the amount entered yesterday isn't sufficient to cover even one day of energy requirement," said Stephane Dujarric, warning that crucial services will shut down if more fuel does not enter Gaza immediately.
