Marcus Rashford's former teammate breaks silence on Man Utd outcast's future

Daily Mirror17 hours ago

Marcus Rashford is yet to get himself back into the fold in Manchester with his former team-mate urging him to go wherever he's happiest after a loan stint at Aston Villa
Marcus Rashford's former Manchester United team-mate Timothy Fosu-Mensah insists the "most important things is for him to feel good" as he weighs up where he'll be playing his football next season.
The academy star is back in Manchester after his loan spell with Aston Villa came to an end. At Villa Park, Rashford looked back to his best, but the Midlands club have not exercised their option to buy him permanently and it looks unlikely that he'll forge a way back into the United first-team.

Rashford has been linked with a move to Barcelona and a switch to the Nou Camp would be his dream move, but the Catalans are going after Nico Williams which could curtail that move.

The United star, when he's on it, has been a deadly individual, scoring 30 times in Erik ten Hag's first season in charge. Since then though he's struggled to hit those heights with his body language and attitude question. Rashford made his Premier League debut in 2016 alongside Fosu-Mensah and the defender just wants to see his former colleague enjoying his football.
He told the Independent: 'I just want him to be happy. Everybody just wants him to be happy. The most important things is for him to feel good, for him to feel happy. Look, the quality is definitely there. Nobody needs to say anything about this quality, because he's a top player.'
Rashford's demise has coincided with Ruben Amorim's arrival. It quickly became apparent that the Portuguese coach didn't fancy the forward and he was left out of a number of matchday squads before sealing an exit in the New Year.
Amorim continued to hint at an attitude problem as he said: "In January we lost Rashford and Antony and we didn't bring new ones – was a risk. But there are things here that are more important than to score 10 more goals this season. We are trying to do something that is more important. We can hurt the squad now, but in the future it is going to help the club. So we are on that path.'
The United boss wasn't shy in suggesting that Rashford's efforts in training were a major reason for his omission. He once claimed that he would rather pick his 63-year-old goalkeeping coach in his squad rather than Rashford.
He said: "If things don't change, I will not change. It's the same situation for every player, if you do the maximum and right things we can use every player. You can see on the bench we miss a bit of pace on the bench, but I would put [ Manchester United goalkeeper coach Jorge] Vital before a player who doesn't give the maximum every day."

Guardiola worried that lack of rest after Club World Cup could 'destroy' Man City

June 30 (Reuters) - Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is concerned about the lack of rest his side will get ahead of the new Premier League season and said their involvement in the Club World Cup could "destroy" them. City wrapped up the previous Premier League season on May 25 and opened their Club World Cup campaign in Philadelphia just over three weeks later on June 18. They face Al-Hilal in Orlando on Saturday in the round of 16 and should City go on to reach the final on July 13 they will have a month to prepare for their new league campaign beginning on August 16. Guardiola said he did not know how much the Club World Cup would take out of his squad and told reporters to ask him about the impact later in the year. "I may say, so listen, we are a disaster. We are exhausted. The World Cup destroyed us," he added. "I don't know, but it's the first time in our life that that's happened. So we'll see." Guardiola said he understood comments made by former Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp, who said the expanded 32-team event, to be held once every four years during the pre-season, was football's worst idea. "Juergen, we fought together many, many times... when we went to UEFA meetings especially, or when we discussed the Premier League calendar, about how to add more quality, giving the managers and players more rest," Guardiola said. "So his comments didn't surprise me a lot ... I understand his argument, because I would defend his argument as well."

Arsenal handed Viktor Gyokeres transfer boost as fresh offer revealed

Arsenal are yet to make their first signing of the summer transfer window but it could potentially be a very exciting week for the Gunners with a number of deals in the pipeline Arsenal have had a very quiet summer transfer window so far - but it might not stay that way for long. Mikel Arteta is chasing a number of signings as he attempts to cut the gap to Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table. A move for Martin Zubimendi is all-but done and he is expected to be followed by compatriot Kepa Arrizabalaga, who will arrive from Chelsea. A striker is also on the shortlist for the Gunners, with both Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko both candidates to arrive at the Emirates. ‌ Valencia star Cristhian Mosquera has also emerged as a major target over the coming days and work looks set to continue on deal for the Spanish starlet. ‌ There could also be some major exits over the coming weeks, too, with a few sales earmarked before the end of the window. With that being said, take a look at the latest transfer news and rumours from the Emirates Stadium: Sporting chiefs offers Gyokeres update Sporting Lisbon president Federico Varandas has admitted that Viktor Gyokeres could leave the club this summer for less than his release clause. "Sporting is calm regarding this matter," Varandas said."Secondly, Sporting does not need to sell Viktor Gyökeres. Fortunately, we have moved past the phase of selling our main asset. "However, we remain sensitive to Viktor's dreams or those of any other athlete. Sporting has made a commitment that, after weeks of meetings, we will not demand the full amount of the clause; we will be reasonable regarding the amount requested for Viktor. "Today, there is a strong likelihood that he will leave. I won't disclose the amount, but the player knows what it is. I can say that Viktor will not leave for 60+10m. He won't leave, absolutely not. "In recent weeks, we have been paying attention. I saw a player, Zubimendi, who is six months younger than Viktor, go for 65 million, and I saw Matheus Cunha move to Manchester United for around 75 million euros. We are talking about players who are 26 years old. I believe Viktor could leave, unless he has the worst agent in the world, which I don't believe, as his agent is one of the best in the world." ‌ Berta leading Mosquera talks Arsenal chief Andrea Berta will consider upping his side's bid for Valencia star Cristhian Mosquera after seeing their first offer turned down. According to Spanish outlet Super Deporte, Arsenal's opening offer was in the €15m (£12.8m) region. That was not enough to convince the La Liga side to sell. However, it is suggested that around €20-25m, with €3-5m in add-ons could be enough to get a deal done. ‌ Mosquera remains out of contract next summer. He has recently been playing for Spain at the under-21 Euros. Arsenal to battle United Arsenal will reportedly go head to head with Manchester United for the signing of Roma star Evan N'Dicka. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Frenchman is available this summer. It is suggested that Roma want to receive around £30m for N'Dicka so they avoid a punishment for breaching spending rules. There is further interest however, with Newcastle also keeping an eye on developments.

BREAKING NEWS Huge change to the way Aussies watch football as Optus is DITCHED as English Premier League broadcaster: Here's where to watch it instead

Channel Nine and its streaming service Stan have secured the right to air all English Premier League matches in Australia in what amounts to a seismic change for soccer fans down under. The broadcaster reached an agreement to snatch the rights from Optus Sport in a move that was officially announced on Monday. Under the terms of the deal, Nine and Stan will also be the sole way to watch FA Cup matches in Australia. The three-year-deal effectively ends Optus's live sports programming and brings an end to the Optus Sport platform, which will close. Nine has bought out the rest of the rights period from Optus, with Stan giving discounted pricing to Optus Sport customers so they can continue to watch the world's biggest football league. The transition of the rights becomes official on August 1. 'The Premier League is the most-watched football league on the planet, and alongside the FA Cup, this acquisition reinforces Nine's position as the home of sport in Australia. We are proud to deliver these iconic competitions to Australian audiences through Stan Sport,' Nine CEO Matt Stanton said in a statement.
