Police report against whistleblower

Kota Kinabalu: A police report has been lodged by Special Officer to the Chief Minister Mazlan@Joehari Manan against Albert Tei for alleged defamatory and seditious statements he made during a media conference outside the High Court, here, on Monday. The report was lodged at the Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters, Tuesday. 'Albert made statements containing malicious, false and insulting elements against the Sabah Chief Minister, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Attorney General's Chambers during the media conference,' Mazlan said in the report. 'He openly made accusations and warnings to the public that should anything happen to him, including kidnapping, murder or disappearance, the Chief Minister and several other individuals should be held accountable. 'These are extremely serious criminal accusations and seditious in nature against the Chief Minister,' he said. Mazlan said given Albert's ongoing court case involving two Sabah assemblymen, he (Albert) should not have made statements through the media that could create negative perceptions and contain defamatory and false elements that could harm various parties, including the Chief Minister, MACC and Attorney General's Chambers. 'Albert's actions could constitute contempt of court (subjudice) as the matter is currently before the courts,' he said. Man charged with murder of housemate in Shah Alam court
SHAH ALAM: A 41-year-old man was charged in the Magistrate's Court here today with the murder of his housemate last month. Faisal Abdul Aziz acknowledged the charge when it was read before Magistrate Mohamad Redza Azhar Rezali. No plea was recorded as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court. The accused is alleged to have murdered Muhammad Fakhrullah Pauzihal Ali, 33, at a house in Kampung Kubu Gajah, Sungai Buloh, at 11.26 pm on June 25. The charge, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, carries the death penalty or imprisonment of 30 to 40 years, along with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction. Deputy Public Prosecutor Alia Anisa Khairus Masnan led the prosecution, while the accused was unrepresented. Russian strikes kill two in Ukraine, hit military office
KYIV: Russian attacks on the eastern Ukrainian city of Poltava killed two people, wounded nearly a dozen and also struck a military recruitment centre, officials said Thursday. The Ukrainian army reported there were 'dead and wounded' at the recruitment office. Moscow has stepped up its drone and missile bombardments on Ukraine as peace talks stall and concerns grow over further US military support for Kyiv. The emergency services posted images of buildings on fire and rescue workers at the scene of the Poltava strike where cars were shown littered with debris. 'Two people were killed and 10 were wounded,' the emergency services said. While in Russia's Lipetsk region, debris from a Ukrainian drone killed an elderly woman and wounded two others, its governor said Thursday. The debris fell on a building in Lipetsk, which lies about 400 kilometres (250 miles) southeast of Moscow, killing a woman in her seventies, Igor Artamonov wrote on Telegram. In another incident, Artamonov said residents in the city of Yelets in Lipetsk were evacuated after a drone hit their apartment building, with no casualties reported. An official responsible for communications linked with Ukraine's national security council in Kyiv said a plant that makes 'batteries for missile guidance and correction systems,' was targeted. Russia's defence ministry said Thursday it had destroyed 69 Ukrainian drones overnight, mostly over its Belgorod region bordering Ukraine. Ukraine's air force, meanwhile, said it neutralised 40 Russian drones of the 52 launched overnight from late Wednesday. In the Ukrainian city of Odesa, six people were wounded, including two children, in a Russian strike that hit a multi-storey residential building, regional governor Oleg Kiper said on Telegram on Thursday. – AFP

MACC moves to forfeit RM170mil linked to Ismail Sabri
KOTA BARU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is expected to file a court application within the next two weeks to forfeit assets worth RM170 million allegedly linked to former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob. MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the assets, which have already been seized, would be forfeited to the government if the court rules in its favour. "In the near future, maybe within a week or two, we will file the application in court to forfeit the assets we have seized, worth about RM170 million. "That is the current decision by the Deputy Public Prosecutor," he said. Azam was speaking at a press conference after witnessing the handover of the Kelantan MACC director's post from Rosli Husain to newly-appointed Azmin Yusuff here today. Azam added that if Ismail Sabri chooses to contest the forfeiture, the case would proceed to trial. When asked whether any criminal charges would be filed against Ismail Sabri, Azam said that decision lies with the Attorney-General's Chambers. "We have completed our investigation and submitted the papers. It is now up to the DPP to decide whether there is a basis for criminal prosecution," he said. On June 25, it was reported that the MACC was planning to forfeit RM177 million in cash and assets linked to a probe into alleged corruption and money laundering involving Ismail Sabri. In March, the MACC seized about RM170 million in cash, held in various foreign currencies, along with 16kg of gold bullion worth around RM7 million, following investigations into alleged corruption and money laundering linked to the Bera member of parliament.
