McDonald's Hong Kong releases Chiikawa Happy Meal toys

Time Outa day ago
Hot on the heels of McDonald's time-limited Chiikawa Days-themed menu items comes more collaboration products between the fast-food giant and these cute Japanese critters. McDonald's Hong Kong is now releasing a range of Happy Meal toys on Chiikawa and friends, to be changed up each week.
From now until the end of August, purchase a McDonald's Happy Meal to receive a Chiikawa toy. There are eight versions altogether, with each type being offered on specific dates throughout the promotion period, so make sure you keep an eye on the dates to get your favourite. The Hachiware calendar will be released on July 28, followed by the Rakko measuring device on August 1, the Chiikawa pen holder on August 4, the Usagi hotcake box on August 8, the Momonga pen cap on August 11, the Hachiware photo frame on August 15, the Chiikawa notepad on August 18, and finally the Usagi sticker dispenser on August 22.
Customers who want to get their hands on their collectable toys must purchase a Cheese Egg Bun Happy Meal set or a four-piece McNuggets Happy Meal via the McDonald's app to receive specific Chiikawa Days designs, released each Monday and Friday at 11am. After receiving a confirmation of purchase with a QR code, you can then pick up your meal with the toy at selected McDonald's restaurants. Make sure you go collect them within the specific dates and times, otherwise it will be considered forfeit!
Alternatively, you can also visit 40 specific McDonald's branches in person to purchase your Chiikawa Happy Meal. Be sure you're ordering from the list of approved branches, or ordering via the designated webpage via the McDonald's app and not just the normal purchase interface, or you'll end up with a random book from the 'Little People, Big Dreams' series instead (not bad, but that's not what you're here for).

McDonald's to begin testing viral ‘dirty sodas' and cold coffees in over 500 locations

Read our Privacy notice McDonald's is planning to launch a range of 'dirty sodas' as part of a new 'futuristic' menu range for the Fall. Taking inspiration from fans, the fast-food chain said it was leaning into its drinks spin-off brand, CosMc's, to 'turn up the flavor' and create an exciting range of drinks that resonates with younger Gen-Z audiences. However, the Thursday announcement comes months after the chain began shuttering all CosMc's locations, just over a year after they launched in Bolingbrook, Chicago, plus six more in Texas. Over 500 restaurants across Wisconsin, Colorado, and surrounding areas will begin rolling out the new lineup of drinks, McDonald's said. A dirty soda is a drink made up of a base soda, usually a popular brand such as Coca-Cola, Dr Pepper, or Sprite, and then spiked with a syrup or a flavored coffee creamer. It's particularly popular among teens and those who prefer not to drink alcohol. McDonald's is launching five new drinks across over 500 restaurants ( McDonalds ) 'Think cold coffees, fruity refreshers, crafted sodas, and energizing sips—all created to bring a little extra joy to your day,' it added. The new flavor lineup will include Toasted Vanilla Frappé, Strawberry Watermelon Refresher, Sprite Lunar Splash, Popping Tropic Refresher, and Creamy Vanilla Cold Brew. The fast food chain said the soda range was designed for every occasion, from a morning lift to an afternoon refresher, or even as a small treat. 'We're seeing real momentum in beverages, with more people – especially our Gen Z fans – turning to cold, flavorful drinks as a go-to treat,' said Alyssa Buetikofer, chief customer experience and marketing officer of McDonald's USA. 'It's a great opportunity for us to meet our US customers' evolving tastes and show up in new moments, like afternoon refreshment or snack breaks,' she added. All five drinks are planned to be tested starting September 2. The 'dirty soda' trend has gained popularity in Utah — where the large Mormon population doesn't typically drink alcohol — since the early 2010s. But Olivia Rodrigo has also been credited with propelling the trend to the next level when she posted about it in late 2021. The news also follows the news that both Coke and Pepsi plan to launch new prebiotic soda drinks, suggesting a boom in the market as competitors race to create innovative new flavors.

Netflix fans so 'speechless' by film based on a true story they've watched twice

The Netflix film, directed by Angelina Jolie, is based on the powerful true story of Olympian Louis Zamperini and viewers say it's one of the most heartbreaking things they've ever watched Netflix enthusiasts are being encouraged to dive into a ' bingeworthy' true story that promises to keep you glued to your screen. TikTok's TV and film aficionado Eccy Reviews has hailed the Netflix offering Unbroken as a show that will render you "speechless". ‌ Directed by Angelina Jolie, the film chronicles the life of Olympian Louis Zamperini following his near-fatal plane crash during World War Two. Zamperini endured a gruelling 47 days adrift on a raft with two fellow crewmen before being captured by the Japanese navy and taken to a prisoner-of-war camp. ‌ The 2014 cinematic piece, featuring Jack O'Connell, Miyavi, and Domhnall Gleeson, has a runtime of 2 hours and 17 minutes and boasts 14 awards and 33 nominations ‌ The TikTok critic enthused: "You have to watch this true story on Netflix immediately. I promise you that this will be one of the most powerful and unbelievable things that you will ever watch. "I went into it completely blind and by the end of it, I was speechless. What this guy went through and how strong he is as a human being, it is one of the most heartbreaking things that I have ever watched. "I promise you that this story will stick with you. You will never ever forget this film so please get this film on your watch list." ‌ In response to his video, one viewer remarked: "The book and the film are both awesome." Another chimed in, saying: "Great film, watching it twice." A third user enthused: "Absolutely brilliant movie. I have watched it about five times. Jack O Connell should have received an Oscar love it." ‌ Another shared their thoughts, saying: "Omg what amazing film but very sad watch." On IMDb, a reviewer shared their experience: "I finally rented this movie which I had been avoiding since it was released over a year ago. I am glad I did because it kept my interest throughout. I thought the POW theme would be too depressing which it is but there is no glossing over that." They continued to praise the director: "Angelina Jolie has become an admirable director. I don't understand the hate directed towards her. This is an epic movie that is very well done. The film has won it's fair share of awards including three Oscar nominations." ‌ The same user was surprised by the lack of further recognition: "The acting is great. I am surprised the movie didn't receive more Oscar nominations for Best Picture, Best Lead Actor, Best Supporting Actor and Best Director. Also the Coen Brothers should have received more recognition for their screenplay." Another person reflected on the film's heavy content: "Unbroken was a hard movie to watch because of the torture that Louie Zamperini was put under. When he was taken as a prisoner of war and stuck in a foreign country with the other prisoners of war, it really hurt me to see the way that the human race can treat another person. "I think it is cool how at the end of the movie, it showed pictures and gave an update on Louie. For all that he endured, he went back to the people that tortured him and made amends with them. I loved how the movie ended on a semi-positive result even though it was kind of dark. "Also, It put me at ease to know that he finally got to run the race he was training for, for so many years. Lastly, I really liked how the graphics and how realistic every aspect of the movie was."

People are travelling to McDonald's restaurants in Italy for one strange reason

Dedicated fans of McDonald's have been racing to Italy where the fast food chain has begun a new promotion. Many are heading overseas to be a part of it and posting the results online Whilst many fans of McDonald's collect the fast food chain's merchandise - most commonly Happy Meal toys - occasionally the company embarks on other promotions to attract customers. For some, that's meant travelling to Italy just to get their hands on some new 'Maccies' goods. ‌ Just as it did last year, McDonald's in Italy has launched a new adult meal campaign where the toy has been replaced by something much different - a beach towel. One person who travelled across Europe especially took to TikTok to document her adventure. "POV [point of view] You go to Italy to get the McDonald's towel," Leonie penned in a caption alongside her video. ‌ ‌ After entering the restaurant, Leonie could be seen heading straight to the touchscreen ordering system, where she picked out the "nuovi teli mare" [new beach towels] option. "Hoping for the ice cream or the burger," she continued. Indeed the McDonald's Italy website reveals there are four towels in the range, featuring a Big Mac, a drink, fries and a McFlurry ice cream. However, after opening her paper bag, she was disappointed to realise she'd been given the drink version. "Not the freaking soda," she exclaimed. Despite her modest following of just 228 on the social media platform, 1.4 million TikTok users tuned in. ‌ Elsewhere, a second McDonald's fan from Australia made the mammoth trip to Europe to get her hands on the coveted merch. "I travelled all the way to Italy to secure a McDonald's beach towel," confirmed Ana in a clip, which has also been viewed 1.4 million times. Her grand reveal saw her become the proud owner of the fries design, meanwhile, as she Ana pointed out she was actually in Sardinia rather than the Italian mainland. ‌ Writing in response, one TikTok user quipped: "This is actually really dangerous because now we've all had to book flights to Italy to get a McDonald's beach towel." A second replied: "What! I'm going to Italy on Monday. I'm gonna go to McDonald's." A third person praised: "I literally told my parents all about it and we are in Italy right now and we drove to McDonald's and my parents are getting me one." ‌ Whilst a fourth joked: "The only thing my six-year old enjoyed in Italy." And in response to questions from other intrigued McDonald's lovers, Ana explained: "You have to order specific meals! There is an option at those kiosks that tell you which ones you need to order to get the towel." If you're tempted to travel to Italy to snap one up for yourself, be wary that McDonald's Italia says of the promotion: "Offer valid at participating McDonald's locations. While supplies last. Purchase of a Large McMenu or Happy Meal includes a Beach Towel. "Check prices at participating McDonald's locations. Beach towels cannot be sold separately. You cannot choose the design of your beach towel."
