South Korean prosecutors in bid to detain ex-president
"Detention request is related to allegations of abuse of power and obstruction of justice," a statement released on Sunday from the special counsel of prosecutors investigating the December 3 incident said.
Yoon's martial law decree was lifted about six hours after it was announced when lawmakers, who had been forced to scale the walls of the assembly building to make it through a ring of security forces, voted the decree down.
Yoon was summoned on Saturday for hours of questioning by the special counsel as part of the probe over the insurrection charges, according to the counsel officials.
Yoon's lawyer was not immediately available for comment on Sunday.

LAHORE (AP) — The owners of a pet lion that escaped from a farmhouse and injured a woman and her two children have been arrested in the eastern Pakistani city of Lahore, authorities said Sunday. The arrest comes after dramatic video footage surfaced showing the lion leaping over a wall before attacking the victims in a residential area. The woman and her 5- and 7-year-old children sustained injuries to their faces and arms on Wednesday night when the lion escaped from its cage, police official Faisal Kamran said. According to a police report, the children's father told police that the lion's owners stood by and watched as the animal clawed at his family, making no effort to restrain it. The lion later returned to the owners' farmhouse and was relocated to a wildlife park, police said. Keeping exotic animals such as lions is considered a status symbol among some wealthy Pakistanis, despite the legal requirements and high fees associated with ownership.

Japan's emperor begins a weeklong visit to Mongolia that will honor POWs
TOKYO (AP) — Japan's Emperor Naruhito began a weeklong visit to Mongolia on Sunday during which he plans to honor thousands of Japanese prisoners of World War II who were held under harsh conditions in the country. Naruhito's visit marks the 80th anniversary of the end of WWII. In recent years, he has toured some of the places where the bloodiest battles and bombings occurred, including Iwo Jima, Okinawa and Hiroshima. The emperor has said it's part of his effort at atonement and remembrance of the tragedy of war fought in the name of his grandfather, Emperor Hirohito. While the vast majority of Japanese soldiers were taken to Siberia, around 12,000 to 14,000 ended up in Mongolia, which was fighting alongside the Soviets against Japan. Most of the POWs were put to hard labor and construction work for the Mongolian government's headquarters, a state university and a theater that are still preserved in the capital Ulaanbaatar. The prisoners toiled under harsh conditions and scarce food. Japanese records show about 1,700 of them died in Mongolia. 'As we mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the war this year, we should never forget the pain and sorrow of the people,' Naruhito said last week. 'I believe it is important to not forget those who died, deepen understanding of the wartime past and to nurture the peace-loving heart.' Naruhito and Masako were scheduled to meet Mongolia's President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh and his wife. The couple will also attend the opening ceremony of Naadam, Mongolia's annual festival that focuses on three traditional games of horseracing, wrestling and archery. The meeting came just days before a deadline to reinstate higher US levies that were halted in April. President Donald Trump has said that Washington would send out letters to trading partners setting unilateral tariff rates taking effect on Aug. 1. If the 25% across-the-board levies are imposed, that would further undercut an economy already hit by sluggish domestic consumption. The central bank in May slashed its forecast for this year's gross domestic product growth to 0.8% from 1.5%. In a last-minute bid to avoid the tariffs from kicking in, Yeo presented a vision for a 'mutually beneficial' manufacturing cooperation framework to further strengthen the two countries' industrial supply chains, while stressing that any final agreement must include ending or limiting tariffs on automobiles and steel, among other products. 'Both sides agreed that they have been conducting negotiations in good faith for a month since the launch of the new South Korean administration and that it is necessary to further narrow their differences,' the statement said, adding that the officials also discussed extending the deadline for additional talks. It was Yeo's second trip to the US in just about a week and a sign that Seoul is ratcheting up efforts to make up for lost time in trade talks after President Lee Jae Myung won a snap election last month, taking over from the ousted Yoon Suk Yeol. Yoon's brief martial law decree at the end of last year triggered the country's worst political turmoil in decades and resulted in a leadership vacuum. Lee's national security adviser, Wi Sung-lac, left for Washington on Sunday to meet Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who also serves as acting national security adviser. Speaking with reporters before his departure, Wi said he needed to increase his involvement as the negotiations are in a 'critical phase.'
