SP Uma Prashant confirmed this as the district's first such incident. His initial Rs 500 wager escalated to Rs 5,000, culminating in a deceptive display of Rs 19 crore winnings.
KTJ Nagar police reported he died by hanging after failing to withdraw the funds. He previously filed a complaint at CEN police station in Davanagere on May 14, 2025. After authorities failed to trace the suspects, he made several visits to check progress and expressed his disappointment through social media, seeking attention from senior officials.
The family, including his parents and brother, are facing significant hardship following his death, as Shashikumar was the primary breadwinner who supported their daily needs. His parents feel bereft following his passing.
Before his death, Shashikumar wrote to MP Prabha Mallikarjun and the judiciary members. His letter detailed widespread fraud through online betting applications, mentioning numerous victims and insufficient action against offenders.
In his final note, Shashikumar Ritti called for banning betting applications to prevent future tragedies. He addressed his concerns about deceptive betting practices to the district collector, the judiciary, and MP Prabha Mallikarjun. His last selfie videos have appeared on social media.
The victim, who worked at a printing press, began using betting applications last year through a mobile link. Early wins encouraged further participation.

Despite the application showing large winnings, he could not withdraw the money. Regular pressure from private lenders contributed to his decision to end his life.
SP Uma Prashant confirmed recovering the death note from Shashikumar, noting it did not identify the fraudulent application. Police have seized his mobile phone for investigation and continue raising public awareness about online gambling risks. This represents the district's first documented case. "We urge youth to avoid quick-money schemes and focus on legitimate work, cautioning against trusting applications promising large returns," the SP advised.

Madhya Pradesh cop earned Rs 28 lakh in 12 years without doing duty. Here's how
In a staggering case of departmental negligence and systemic failure, a police constable from Madhya Pradesh's Vidisha district managed to draw a salary of Rs 28 lakh for 12 years without ever actively serving in the constable was recruited into the Madhya Pradesh Police in 2011 and initially posted to Bhopal Police Lines. Shortly after joining, he was sent for basic police training at the Sagar Police Training Centre, as was standard for his batch. But instead of reporting there, he quietly returned home to Vidisha, said Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ankita than alerting his superiors or seeking leave, the constable sent his service record back to Bhopal Police Lines via speed post. The documents were received and accepted without any verification of his physical presence or training status, the ACP said. No one at the training centre flagged his absence and no one at Bhopal Police Lines questioned it months passed and then years, the constable never reported for duty. Yet, his name remained active on the rolls and his monthly salary was credited without fail. Over time, he quietly amassed more than Rs 28 lakh without stepping into a police station or training was only in 2023, when the department began pay grade evaluation for the 2011 batch, that the anomaly came to light. Officials couldn't locate the constable and no one in the department recognised his name or face. During the internal inquiry, officials attempted to trace the constable's past records and service returns, but found seemed implausible that someone could have been on duty for 12 years and not been assigned a single case or involved in any official the constable was finally summoned for questioning, he claimed he had been suffering from mental health issues, said ACP Khaterkar. He submitted documents to support his claim, stating that his condition had prevented him from attending duty all these senior officers were alerted to the case, the matter was handed over to ACP Khaterkar, who is posted in Bhopal's TT Nagar area for an investigation."The constable in question joined the police force in 2011. Although, he was supposed to be sent for training along with the rest of his batch, he cited personal reasons and was allowed to go separately. While, the others completed their training and returned, the constable never reported. Since he went alone, there was no return record maintained for him," ACP Khaterkar told India Today TV."Despite never completing his training or joining active duty, his name continued to be reflected in police records as a newly-appointed constable. He remained on the rolls and his salary was credited regularly every year. The issue came to light when, 12 years later, his records were reviewed as part of a time-bound pay grade evaluation," she his defence, the constable argued he was unaware of the updated police rules at that time and claimed that lack of communication and his health issues kept him from far, the constable has returned Rs 1.5 lakh to the department and agreed to repay the remaining amount through deductions from his future salary. He is currently posted at the Bhopal Police Lines and remains under watch, the ACP said that the inquiry was still ongoing and more testimonies will be recorded. Action will also be taken against any officers found to have been negligent in handling or supervising the matter, based on directions from senior police officials.- EndsMust Watch IN THIS STORY#Madhya Pradesh

Madhya Pradesh Govt Launches Probe As School Repair Bills Go Viral
The Madhya Pradesh government has initiated an investigation after paintwork bills from two schools in Shahdol district surfaced on social media, revealing suspected fraudulent payments and inflated entries for labour and materials. The bills circulated online show inflated entries for labour and materials, claiming that 168 labourers and 65 masons were deployed to apply just four litres of paint at one school, while 275 workers and 150 masons were assigned to use 20 litres at another. School Education Minister Uday Pratap Singh has directed immediate action following the discovery of suspected fraudulent payments sanctioned under the guise of minor maintenance at Sakandi Government High School and Nipaniya Higher Secondary School, both located in the Beohari Assembly segment of Shahdol district. The scandal came to light after detailed bills circulated on social media, revealing what appear to be inflated entries for labour and materials. — Shalendra Patel (@ShalendraPate20) July 5, 2025 At Sakandi High School, official records claimed that 168 labourers and 65 masons were deployed for a job involving merely four litres of paint. The recorded expenditure -- Rs 1,06,984 -- has raised widespread suspicion. Nipaniya School's records were no less startling: Rs 2,31,685 was shown as approved for the work of 275 labourers and 150 masons, who allegedly undertook tasks involving just twenty litres of paint, installation of ten windows, and four doors. Reacting firmly to the disclosures, the Education Minister ordered the Secretary of the School Education Department and the Commissioner of Public Instruction to carry out a prompt and impartial inquiry. He reiterated the government's zero-tolerance stance on corruption and irregularities within public institutions, emphasising that no leniency would be shown to those found guilty. The revelations have triggered public dissatisfaction and cast a shadow on the credibility of fund utilisation in rural education infrastructure. Many have voiced concerns over how such inflated expenditures went unnoticed, calling for stronger accountability mechanisms and audit practices within local education departments. The controversy arrives at a time when the Madhya Pradesh government is actively promoting transparency and investment across multiple sectors. This incident might serve as a catalyst for introducing stricter audit protocols, digital transparency tools, and decentralised monitoring systems involving local stakeholders.
