The two will be produced before a court tomorrow (June 6) where their custody for further probe will be sought.' said an officer from Pune Rural police. The officer identified the two suspects as Sameer Pathan alias Lucky (25) and Vikas Satpute (28).
The incident took place when seven people from three families, incuding the teen and the three other women, were on their way to the temple town of Pandharpur in Solapur district. The seven knew each other as they were all from the same village in Pune District.
Two 17-year-old boys and a 70-year-old driver were also part of the group in the van. Ten teams had been formed for the probe. The incident had taken place around 4.15 am on June 30, around 10 kms from Bhigwan town.
At the time of the incident, the driver had stopped the vehicle by the roadside to relieve himself. Two unidentified men approached the car. Brandishing sharp weapons, they robbed three women of her gold ornaments worth Rs 1.5 lakh. During this attack, one of the men took the girl away behind the structure of the tea stall and sexually assaulted her, threatening her with a knife. The two men had covered their faces with masks.
Investigation had revealed that the assailants blew chilli powder at the occupants of the vehicle as an irritant.
When one of the suspects was blowing the chilli powder at them, he had momentarily lowered his mask. Based on the description given by the occupants of the vehicle, a sketch of the suspect was prepared.

Thane court acquits 49-year-old in rape case, questions 10 years gap to file complaint
THANE: A 49-year-old man accused of repeatedly raping a woman over eight years under the pretext of marriage and cheating her of Rs 5 lakh was acquitted by Additional Sessions Judge D.S. Deshmukh. The court observed that the prosecution failed to establish guilt beyond reasonable doubt. The accused, a resident of Solapur who was staying at CBD Belapur, faced charges under sections rape cheating and threatening and the case, registered at Kapurbawadi police station in March 2022, involved allegations spanning from July 2012 to March 2020. The complainant, a widow with two children whose husband died in 2007, alleged that she met the accused at her sister's daughter's engagement ceremony in July 2012. According to the FIR, the accused contacted her the next day, met her at Pune railway station, and took her to a lodge where he allegedly raped her after promising marriage and financial support for her children. The woman claimed the accused convinced her to shift to Thane in 2014, promising to help with her children's education. She alleged he continued to exploit her sexually while extracting money over the years - Rs 60,000 for his wife's sarpanch election campaign, Rs 1.5 lakh for purchasing a flat at Kamothe by making her mortgage her gold necklace, and Rs 1.4 lakh for his personal needs. The relationship reportedly soured when the accused began avoiding her calls and eventually blocked her number. When she confronted him at his Belapur residence in February 2022, she alleged that he and his family members abused and pushed her out, prompting her to file the complaint. However, Judge Deshmukh found the prosecution's case fundamentally flawed. The court noted that the woman was a mature adult who voluntarily maintained physical relations with the accused for nearly a decade without raising any objection or informing anyone about the alleged exploitation. The court particularly questioned why the woman waited 10 years to report the alleged crimes if they were indeed against her will. The judge noted that the woman's testimony suggested they were in a consensual live-in relationship rather than a case of repeated rape. Regarding the cheating charges, the court found no documentary evidence to support the woman's claims of financial transactions. The prosecution's case was further weakened by examining only one witness - the complainant herself. Her credibility was significantly undermined during cross-examination when she admitted that she did not oppose going to the lodge room. Following his acquittal, the accused was directed to furnish a fresh personal recognizance bond of Rs 15,000 with one surety for six months.

Man gets 10 years for sexual assault on 6-year-old in Thane
THANE: A 30-year-old man from Kalwa was sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment by an additional sessions court in Thane on Tuesday for sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl in August 2023. The accused, a Kalwa resident, was convicted under sections 4, 6, and 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. Additional Sessions Judge AS Bhagwat sentenced the accused to concurrent prison terms - seven years for penetrative assault. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 for each offence. The horrific incident occurred on August 4, 2023, between 7:30 pm and 9:00 pm while the victim was playing outside her neighbour's house where her mother went for stitching classes. According to the prosecution, the accused took the child to his house, made her sit on his lap, and sexually assaulted her. The child's mother discovered the assault the next morning when the victim complained of pain and bleeding. 'The victim told her mother that the accused threatened to beat her and her parents if she disclosed the incident,' the court noted in its judgment. A doctor from CSM Hospital, Kalwa, who examined the victim, found multiple injuries including inflammation, redness, and tears on the victim's private parts, confirming sexual assault. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Esse novo alarme com câmera é quase gratuito em São Paulo (consulte o preço) Alarmes Undo The court observed that the medical evidence strongly corroborated the victim's testimony and her mother's complaint. The accused's defence counsel argued that the prosecution failed to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt, claiming the accused was falsely implicated due to previous disputes with the victim's family. The defence also pointed to minor discrepancies in witness testimonies. However, Judge Bhagwat dismissed these arguments, stating that 'minor discrepancies cannot be termed fatal in POCSO cases, considering the victim's tender age of less than seven years when she testified. MANGALURU: The CCB team of Mangaluru City Police has arrested two more persons from Maharashtra in connection with the visa scam involving Hireglow Elegant Overseas International (OPC) Private Limited, which allegedly defrauded nearly 289 overseas job aspirants. Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said the arrested accused are Dil Shaad Abdul Sathar Khan (45), a resident of Navi Mumbai, and Sahukari Kishore Kumar alias Anil Patel (34), from Dombivli, Thane. Earlier, another accused, Masiulla Atiulla Khan (36) from Mumbai, was arrested in connection with the overseas job recruitment scam reported at Mangaluru East Police Station in May. The accused had opened an office of Hireglow Elegant Overseas International (OPC) Private Limited at Bendoorwell in the city, promising overseas jobs. They allegedly collected nearly Rs 4.5 crore from around 289 people but failed to provide job visas as promised. A case has been registered under Sections 316(2), 318(4), read with 3(5) of the BNS, the Police Commissioner said. Dil Shaad Khan and Anil Patel were produced before court and have been remanded to police custody for further investigation. Meanwhile, Masiulla Atiulla Khan remains in judicial custody. It may be recalled that Lawrence D'Souza, President of the Dakshina Kannada District Congress Labourers' Cell, had earlier demanded a thorough probe into the scam, which affected job seekers from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and other parts of South India. He said many paid between Rs 1.85 lakh and Rs 5 lakh for job placements in countries such as New Zealand, Azerbaijan, and Singapore. Meanwhile, Avaneesh Shukla, Protector of Emigrants (POE) for Karnataka and Goa under the Ministry of External Affairs, visited Mangaluru after receiving credible information about unauthorised overseas job interviews. Following this, the City Police Commissioner suspended two officers with immediate effect for failing to take appropriate legal action against the firm.
