92 psychiatric inmate patients fell ill at IMH Erragadda: Telangana Health Minister
A day after the alleged food poisoning incident came to light, Health Minister visited the hospital on Wednesday.
He said that out of the 92 patients, 18 were shifted to Osmania General Hospital (OGH) for treatment, while the remaining 74 are being treated by six teams of doctors, including those from Gandhi Hospital and OGH, at Erragadda hospital.
The minister mentioned that diet or water contamination could be the reason behind the incident and announced that the diet contractor had been terminated. He instructed the Director of Medical Health to investigate the matter.
Officials suspect that diet or water contamination might have caused the patients' ill health, with a possibility that the additional sweets served on State Formation Day could be the cause.
Meanwhile, an inmate named Karan (30) died on June 3. The minister added that a police complaint had been lodged and an investigation was underway. The post-mortem has been conducted, and the exact cause of death will be revealed once the reports are received.

ADILABAD: Close on the heels of the Asifabad police busting a gang involved in trafficking a tribal woman, the Adilabad police on Saturday disclosed that they have arrested three persons, including the couple who kidnapped a Class X student, and the man from Rajasthan who 'bought' her for Rs 10,000, confined her in his home and repeatedly raped her. Adilabad Deputy Superintendent of Police L Jeevan Reddy said the girl, who is under 16 years of age, was kidnapped by Nirmala Bapunya Atram (47) and her husband Bapunya Rajaram Atram (49), both residents of Kinhi village in Yavatmal district, Maharashtra. The couple allegedly sold the girl to Karan alias Bhagwat Menon of Rajasthan for Rs 10,000. A case of kidnapping and human trafficking has been registered at Bhimpur police station against the three accused. According to Jeevan Reddy, the Class X student was living at her relatives' house. On June 2, Nirmala and Bapunya, who had recently moved to the village, reportedly lured her on the pretext of taking her to a function. They took her to Kinhi in Maharashtra, then to Nagpur by bus, and from there to Kota, Rajasthan, by train. She was subsequently taken to an unidentified village and handed over to Karan. The girl's mother and maternal uncle searched for her at the houses of several relatives before lodging a complaint at Bhimpur police station on June 22. Hearing about this, Nirmala and Bapunya alerted Karan. Karan handed the girl to Nirmala the next day, and she brought the girl back home on June 25. During the investigation, police found that Karan was already married. The accused were arrested at the railway station while attempting to flee. Police seized a mobile phone and Rs 2,000 in cash from them. Jeevan Reddy stated that strict action would be taken against human traffickers.

HYDERABAD: Adilabad police arrested a couple from Maharashtra on Saturday for trafficking a minor tribal girl for Rs 10,000. A rape case has also been registered against a man in Rajasthan under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act for repeatedly sexually abusing the girl. He has not yet been arrested. The couple has been charged with human trafficking and kidnapping. Bheempur police registered a case on June 22 after the girl's family reported her missing, having failed in their attempts to trace her. According to cops, after learning from Nirmala Athra that girl's family had filed a complaint, Karan handed the girl back to her on June 23. Police said Karan is married and divorced. Couple from Maharashtra arrested in human trafficking case in Adilabad
The Bheempur police in Adilabad district on Saturday unearthed a human trafficking racket by arresting a couple from Maharashtra allegedly involved in abduction and the sale of a 16 year-old-minor girl to a man in Rajasthan. The accused, identified as Nirmala, 47, and her husband Bapunya Rajaram of Kinhi village in Maharashtra's Yavatmal district were arrested by the police at the Adilabad railway station on Saturday morning, police said. Another accused Karan alias Bhagavath of Kota in Rajasthan, is at large. According to police, Nirmala and Bapunya allegedly kidnapped the minor Adivasi girl from her village in Bheempur mandal of Adilabad district on June 2, 2025. The couple allegedly sold the girl to Karan in Rajasthan for ₹10,000. Acting on a complaint filed by the girl's mother, the Bheempur police have registered a kidnapping case. A detailed investigation into the abduction case uncovered the human trafficking racket. When the couple got to know that police are on the lookout for them, they reportedly brought the girl back to her home on June 25, 2025. The couple was arrested under the relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956. The arrested duo was produced in the local court. The police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against Karan and deputed a special team to Rajasthan to nab him. The incident comes less than two weeks after an inter-State human trafficking racket allegedly involving a suspended police constable was busted by the police in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district.
