Suarez hits 32nd and 33rd homers as Diamondbacks rout Cardinals 10-1
Suárez has five multi-homer games this season, including
a four-homer night April 26
. Carroll leads the big leagues with 12 triples.
The 34-year-old Suárez is in an intriguing spot as the trade deadline approaches. The All-Star third baseman has 33 homers and is arguably the best power bat on the market, but it's unclear if the D-backs will be buyers or sellers considering their 49-50 record is still on the fringe of the National League playoff race.
Suarez's 18 homers since June 1 are the most in the big leagues.
D-backs righty Ryne Nelson (6-2) had a quality start, giving up one run on four hits over six innings.
The D-backs jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first inning after Carroll hit a leadoff triple and Geraldo Perdomo brought him home with a single. Josh Naylor reached on catcher's interference with two outs and Suarez
followed with a long two-run homer
to left field.
Arizona pushed the advantage to 5-0 in the second after Blaze Alexander and Perdomo hit RBI singles. Suarez went deep again in the third with a solo shot to right center.
St. Louis right-hander Sonny Gray (9-4) gave up a season-high nine runs, including eight earned, over 3 1/3 innings. He gave up 11 hits and struck out five.
Alec Burleson hit a solo homer in the sixth for the Cardinals, who have lost 10 of their past 14 games.
Key moment
Carroll's leadoff triple was a harbinger of the offensive onslaught that was coming.
Key stat
The Diamondbacks scored at least one run in each of the first four innings.
Up next
The Cardinals will throw RHP Miles Mikolas (5-6, 4.94 ERA), while the D-backs counter with RHP Merrill Kelly (8-5, 3.34) in the series finale Sunday.

Former Alabama star, veteran pitcher reportedly signs with first place MLB team
One of the most accomplished Alabama Crimson Tide baseball players in MLB history is now reportedly back in the major leagues. Yes, after having not pitched up to this point in the 2025 season, veteran free agent relief pitcher David Robertson has now signed with a MLB team, according to multiple reports, doing so with the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday. According to an announcement from the team as well, Robertson has also been optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. A 16-year MLB veteran, Robertson has appeared in over 800 games during his accomplished major league career where the right-hander owns a combined 66-46 record with a 2.91 ERA and a 21.7 WAR. Robertson, a former 17th round pick in the 2006 MLB draft out of Alabama, is also a one-time All-Star and World Series champion, and has spent time with eight different organizations - the New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox, Phillies, Tampa Bay Rays, Chicago Cubs, New York Mets, Miami Marlins, and Texas Rangers. Most recently, Robertson appeared in 68 games out of the Rangers bullpen during the 2024 season where he had a 3-4 record with a 3.00 ERA, two saves, and a 99:27 K:BB ratio across 72 innings pitched. Robertson now returns to Philadelphia where he pitched for the Phillies during the 2019 and 2022 seasons, owning a combined 3.30 ERA with six saves between the two. The Phillies currently sit in first place atop the NL East at 56-43 overall. Notre Dame will be one of four teams to compete in the 2026 Jax Baseball Classic
Notre Dame will be one of four teams participating in the 2026 Jax Baseball Classic, which will be an early test for them next spring. The Fighting Irish will compete with 2025 national champion LSU, UCF and Indiana in one of the premier early-season tournaments. The event will be held February 20-22 at VyStar Ballpark in Jacksonville, home of the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, the Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins. Each team will play the other three opponents once across the weekend slate in a round-robin style tournament. Past Jax Baseball Classic champions include Alabama in 2025 and Virginia in 2024. The weekend will reunite UCF head coach Rich Wallace with the Irish. He spent three seasons with the team from 2020-22. Notre Dame finished the 2025 season with a 32-21 record, including a 14-16 mark in ACC play, and missed the postseason. The Irish picked up an intriguing grad transfer over the weekend in Andrew Graham, a Division II All-American who hit .446 with 14 home runs and 78 RBI in 2025.
