German ‘Dr Death' goes on trial for 15 murders, as prosecutors investigate 96 other cases
He will go on trial as prosecutors examine a further 96 cases.
He is alleged to have set fire to their homes to cover up the crimes.
A German doctor will go on trial Monday for killing 15 patients with lethal injections, in what investigators fear may just be the tip of a deadly iceberg.
The 40-year-old palliative care specialist, named by German media as Johannes M, is accused of killing 12 women and three men between September 2021 and July 2024 while working in Berlin.
He allegedly injected the victims, aged between 25 and 94, with a deadly cocktail of sedatives and in some cases set fire to their homes in a bid to cover up his crimes.
A co-worker first raised the alarm about Johannes M last July after becoming suspicious that so many of his patients had died in fires, according to Die Zeit newspaper.
He was arrested in August, with prosecutors initially linking him to four deaths.
But investigations threw up a host of other suspicious cases, and in April prosecutors charged Johannes M with 15 counts of murder.
A further 96 cases are still being investigated, a prosecution spokesperson told AFP, including the death of Johannes M's mother-in-law.
She had been suffering from cancer and mysteriously died the same weekend that Johannes M and his wife went to visit her in Poland in early 2024, according to media reports.
The suspect, dubbed 'doctor death' by German media, reportedly trained as a radiologist and a general practitioner before going on to specialise in palliative care.
According to Die Zeit, he submitted a doctoral thesis in 2013 looking into the motives behind a series of killings in Frankfurt, which opened with the words 'Why do people kill?'
Prosecutors say that in all 15 cases, Johannes M 'administered an anaesthetic and a muscle relaxant to his patients... without their knowledge or consent'.
The relaxant 'paralysed the respiratory muscles, leading to respiratory arrest and death within minutes'.
In five cases, Johannes M allegedly set fire to the victims' apartments after administering the injections.
On one occasion, he is accused of murdering two patients on the same day.
On the morning of 8 July 2024, he allegedly killed a 75-year-old man at his home in the Berlin district of Kreuzberg.
'A few hours later' he is said to have struck again, killing a 76-year-old woman in the neighbouring Neukoelln district.
Prosecutors say he started a fire in the woman's apartment, but it went out.
'When he realised this, he allegedly informed a relative of the woman and claimed that he was standing in front of her flat and that nobody was answering the doorbell,' prosecutors said.
In another case, Johannes M 'falsely claimed to have already begun resuscitation efforts' on a 56-year-old victim, who was initially kept alive by rescuers but died three days later in hospital.
Johannes M has not commented on the accusations against him.
Prosecutors say he had 'no motive beyond killing' and are seeking a life sentence.
The case recalls that of notorious German nurse Niels Hoegel, who was handed a life sentence in 2019 for murdering 85 patients.
Hoegel, believed to be Germany's most prolific serial killer, murdered hospital patients with lethal injections between 2000 and 2005, before he was eventually caught in the act.
More recently, a 27-year-old nurse was given a life sentence in 2023 for murdering two patients by deliberately administering unprescribed drugs.
In March, another nurse went on trial in Aachen accused of injecting 26 patients with large doses of sedatives or painkillers, resulting in nine deaths.
Last week, German police revealed they are investigating another doctor suspected of killing several mainly elderly patients.
Investigators are 'reviewing' deaths linked to the doctor from the town of Pinneberg in northern Germany, just outside Hamburg, police and prosecutors said.

Three people arrested after Blue Stevens stabbed to death near luxury hotel in Knightsbridge
Three people have been arrested after a man was stabbed to death near a luxury hotel in London's Knightsbridge area. Detectives investigating the fatal stabbing of Blue Stevens, 24, on Wednesday say two people were arrested at an address in Hounslow, west London, on Saturday. One man was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder. He remains in police custody. Another man was arrested on suspicion of murder. He has been bailed pending further enquiries. Following their arrests, Metropolitan Police officers obtained a warrant to search two properties in Chiswick, west London, where "significant evidence" was recovered. The third man was arrested on Monday on suspicion of assisting an offender. He remains in police custody. Detective Chief Superintendent Christina Jessah, who leads policing in Central West London, said: "These arrests mark a significant milestone in this complex and unfolding murder investigation. "We continue to progress at pace. While we retain an open mind around motive, one line of enquiry is now that this may have been a targeted attack. "Increased police patrols remain active in and around the Knightsbridge area. Please do speak with an officer if you have any questions or concerns." Officers said the incident took place shortly before 9.30pm on Wednesday in Seville Street, near the Park Tower - a five-star hotel and casino in the heart of Knightsbridge. Police said Mr Stevens was found with stab wounds and died at the scene. Read more from Sky News: A spokesperson for the hotel said the incident did not involve staff or guests, and added: "We are very saddened by this incident that occurred on the street adjacent to our hotel." A Metropolitan Police superintendent previously said that the force was aware of reports that the incident was a robbery but stressed last week that "we are keeping an open mind about all possible motives".

Azealia Banks Accuses Conor McGregor of Sending Unsolicited Nude Images and Threatening Her Online
Conor McGregor is once again in the eye of a media firestorm. The UFC superstar, who has amassed fame, fortune, and more than his fair share of controversy since entering the Octagon in 2013, is now facing a new and intensely graphic scandal that may outdo them all. On the morning of July 14, 2025, rapper and provocateur Azealia Banks took to social media to air explosive allegations against McGregor, accusing the Irish fighter of sending her unsolicited nude images and threatening her not to go public. The posts, published on her X (formerly Twitter) account, included screenshots of uncensored photos allegedly sent by McGregor in a disturbing late-night interaction. Banks didn't mince words in her early-morning revelations. In a now-viral thread, the '212' artist accused McGregor of sending her multiple completely naked selfies, including one image where he appeared to be lifting weights using his genitals. The posts included a chilling text that allegedly followed the explicit images: 'Don't be a rat cos all rats get caught.' According to Banks, the messages were not only unwanted but also an attempt to intimidate her into silence. 'Like how are you really going to sexually harass me with the potato farmer d* then threaten me not to tell???? Honey…… ain't u trying to be the president of Ireland what is it giving fam? Use some f****** sunscreen d***,**' Banks posted in one of the most blistering takedowns yet seen on social media in 2025. Though the explicit photos remain live on Banks' X feed, they are not being shared here due to their graphic nature. If these allegations are true, they represent the latest in a long line of disturbing incidents for the former UFC champion. McGregor, once the shining face of Irish athleticism, has accumulated an eyebrow-raising dossier of public scandals. According to a timeline compiled by Rolling Stone, the fighter's controversies stretch back to at least 2017, when his erratic behavior outside the cage began making more headlines than his wins inside of it. Among the most serious accusations: In 2023, a woman accused McGregor of sexually assaulting her during the NBA Finals. While the Florida State Attorney's Office declined to pursue criminal charges, ESPN reports that the woman has since filed a civil suit, which remains pending. In 2024, McGregor was allegedly spotted kissing a mystery woman on a beach, a public display that drew attention due to his ongoing engagement. And now, with these alleged nude photos sent to Banks, critics are once again questioning how long the UFC and McGregor's sponsors will tolerate the fighter's increasingly erratic, inappropriate, and potentially criminal behavior. Banks, who is known for her unfiltered online persona and has previously been involved in high-profile feuds, is not apologizing for calling McGregor out. If anything, she's doubling down. Throughout the morning of July 14, Banks posted additional messages mocking McGregor's anatomy, questioning his presidential ambitions, and calling for accountability. 'You think I'm scared of some cauliflower-eared cokehead in a bathrobe sending limp threats? I'm from HARLEM. Try me.' she wrote in one post. Public opinion is already beginning to shift, with users across social media siding with Banks and demanding that the UFC and its sponsors respond. 'If this were ANYONE else, they'd be dropped in a heartbeat,' one X user wrote. 'Why is Conor McGregor still being protected?' As of publication time, Conor McGregor has not issued a public statement regarding the allegations. The UFC has also remained silent. But silence may not be an option for long. With graphic evidence now circulating, and Banks continuing to hold court in real time online, McGregor could soon face more than just a bruised reputation. Legal consequences may be on the horizon. McGregor has long hinted at future political ambitions, including a 2024 flirtation with running for president of Ireland, a move many dismissed as a publicity stunt. But Banks wasn't about to let that slide. 'Trying to run for president but can't keep your d* out of my DMs? Be serious. Be f****** for real.**' she added in one of her most scathing posts. Whatever ambitions McGregor had for public office or redemption may now be dead on arrival. While it remains to be seen whether McGregor will face professional consequences, this latest scandal has reignited conversations about power, celebrity, and male entitlement in sports. Banks' decision to publicly name and shame the MMA star could mark a watershed moment in how unsolicited sexual harassment by celebrities is treated in the court of public opinion and possibly in actual courtrooms. The world is watching. And this time, Conor McGregor may have finally stepped too far out of bounds. Story developing. Shooting at Kentucky church after traffic stop leaves 3 dead, more injured. Police ID suspect
(This story has been updated with new information.) Three people are dead, including one suspect, and a Kentucky State Police officer and two men are injured after a series of shootings on July 13 near an airport and at a church in Lexington, officials said. A man suspected of shooting a state trooper on Terminal Drive just after 11:30 a.m. was located by law enforcement officers at Richmond Road Baptist Church, Lexington officials said. Lexington police shot and killed the suspect, Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers said during a press conference. Three officers fired their weapons at the suspect. The suspect has been identified as Guy House, 47. The trooper is also receiving treatment for their injuries, but is believed to be in stable condition, Weathers said. The shooting on Terminal Drive occurred after a state trooper stopped a vehicle in connection to a license plate reader alert in the area of Versailles Road, Weathers said. The suspect left the scene after the trooper was shot. A short time later, the suspect carjacked a vehicle, which officers were able to track to the 5800 block of Old Richmond Road, Weathers said. The suspect "fired his weapon at individuals on church property." Two women were pronounced dead at the scene, while two men are hospitalized, Weathers said. One man is critical condition, while the other is in stable condition. "Preliminary information indicates the suspect may have had a connection to the individuals at the church," Weathers said. The Fayette County County Coroner's Office identified the deceased women as Beverly Gumm, 72, and Christina Combs, 34. "This church was a small church and the majority of the individuals there are biologically related in some way or another. If not, they've been friends for many, many years," Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn said during the press conference. "They're a very tight-knit group of people." Kentucky State Police and Lexington Police officials are investigating the shootings, Weathers said. The Lexington Police officers involved will be placed on administrative assignment, pending the outcome of the investigation. In a social media post, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear asked residents to "pray for the families of those lost, each one a child of God gone too soon." "Thank you to the Lexington Police Department and the Kentucky State Police for their brave efforts today," Beshear said. "Kentucky, let's stand strong together and support our Lexington neighbors during this difficult time." In a statement, Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman said the Department of Criminal Investigations would "stand ready to support (KSP and the Lexington Police Department) with whatever they need in the days ahead." "We are grateful to the Kentucky State Police and Lexington Police Department, who courageously ran toward danger to protect this community," Coleman said. "This is another reminder of the grave danger we ask law enforcement to face every single day. We go to houses of worship to gather in fellowship, unite in faith, and reach toward our Creator. In light of this tragedy, we turn to God with our prayers for the injured Trooper and the victims' families." This story may be updated.
