‘Duster' series review: Rachel Hilson's sass and Josh Holloway's laidback charm rock the retro ride
Duster (English)
Season 1
Episodes: 8
Creators: J. J. Abrams, LaToya Morgan
Starring: Josh Holloway, Rachel Hilson, Asivak Koostachin, Sydney Elisabeth, Benjamin Charles Watson, Camille Guaty, Adriana Aluna Martinez, Greg Grunberg, Keith David
Runtime: 52 minutes
Storyline: A driven FBI agent co-opts a skilled getaway driver into helping her bring down a crime boss
Nina Hayes (Rachel Hilson), the first Black female FBI agent (supposedly loosely modelled on Sylvia Elizabeth Mathis) right out of Quantico, asks to be posted to Phoenix. She faces chauvinism with a smile, a sharp wardrobe, and a sharper mind. She is determined to bring down Ezra Saxton (Keith David), a crime boss whose power and influence are increasing by the day.
No one at her office believes she can do it, as others have tried and failed — with the last agent on the Saxton case losing his mind and getting locked up in an asylum. Nina's boss, Nathan Abbott (Greg Grunberg), tries to be supportive of her even as he has to answer to his superiors, while the other male agents, including Chad Grant (Dan Tracy), are openly hostile.
Only Awan Bitsui (Asivak Koostachin), a Navajo, who also does not get any respect from the other agents, supports Nina. Even though not as willing to colour outside the lines as Nina, Awan is a loyal partner and follows Nina to the end.
Nina feels the only way to crack the Saxton case open is through a mole, and she identifies Saxton's getaway driver, Jim (Josh Holloway), for the job. We first meet Jim as he is driving his red 1970 Plymouth Duster like a bat out of hell. We learn that he has to pick up a time-critical package. In the car is Luna (Adriana Aluna Martinez), Jim's ex Izzy's (Camille Guaty) daughter. Nine-year-old Luna loves to ride with her Uncle Jim, and he obliges her whenever possible.
We learn that Jim is going to take delivery of a heart for Saxton's son, Royce (Benjamin Charles Watson), who has a congenital heart disease. The heart transplant is conducted in Saxton's mansion, with Jim pumping the heart to get it beating again. Ezra's daughter, Genesis (Sydney Elisabeth), is the brains and a more than capable heir — if not for her gender. After all, this is the '70s we're talking about. Jim's family, including his father Wade (Corbin Bernsen) and brother, Joe, have been working for Saxton.
Joe died on the job, and Nina figures out a way to turn Jim with some information she has. Charlotte (Gail O'Grady), Wade's wife, is not particularly fond of Jim, and the feeling is mutual. Billy (Evan Jones), Ezra's muscle man, is unpredictable and suspicious of everyone, including Jim. Throw in dirty cops, including a particularly nasty one, Groomes (Donal Logue), a conspiracy from the highest powers, Elvis Presley's Blue Suede Shoes, a discussion on Pitirim Sorokin's six types of mobility, and Howard Hughes, and you are guaranteed one hell of a ride.
The period detail is exquisite but lived-in, from the music (Jimi Hendrix's 'Foxey Lady', Presley's 'Teddy Bear', Chakachas' 'Jungle Fever', and more), clothes (shorts, scarves, wide collars, and flared trousers), and movie references to delightful blasts from the past — including a Rolodex and Agent Bitsui's Superman wallet. There is also Hughes in all his eccentric glory, insisting the suitcase be handled with tissue, his visitors wash their hands four times, while also giving Luna a taste of the millionaire lifestyle with the 350 gallons of banana nut ice cream he has stashed and a screening of Bullitt, that ultimate car chase movie with the king of cool, Steve McQueen, as the eponymous San Francisco cop.

The acting is spot on, and it is difficult to draw the eyes away from Holloway's easy rider and Hilson's uncompromising politeness and charm. Duster, with its muscle cars and retro vibes (I almost expected Amitabh Bachchan as the laconic, dangerous Vijay to lock the godown door and ask Peter to try and take the keys from him), is a blast from the past in a million delicious ways. Can Season 2 come already?

'Jurassic World: Rebirth' box office collection Day 4 – Scarlett Johansson starrer sees major drop, earns Rs 4.25 crore on first Monday
After a roaring start over the weekend, Jurassic World: Rebirth witnessed a significant dip in collections on its first Monday. The Scarlett Johansson-led dinosaur thriller managed to earn an estimated Rs 4.25 crore on Day 4, marking a sharp drop from its Sunday collection of Rs 16.25 crore, according to reports on The film opened on Friday with a strong collection of Rs 9.25 crore, saw growth over Saturday with Rs 13.5 crore, and peaked on Sunday. Its three-day opening weekend stood at an impressive Rs 39 crore net. According to the film's production house, the movie opened to an extraordinary start, with a massive box office collection of Rs 49.3 crores in the Indian release weekend. With this, the film's box office total even surpassed the opening weekend numbers of Jurassic World: Dominion (Rs 44 crore gross in India). However, Monday's decline from the weekend high signals the usual weekday slump, raising questions about how the film will sustain through the week. The overall India net collection now stands at approximately ₹43.25 crore after four days. Language-wise, the English version continues to dominate with Rs 18.5 crore over the weekend, followed by the Hindi dub at Rs 13.5 crore. The Tamil and Telugu versions together contributed Rs 6.2 crore. Monday's drop was visible across all language markets. This action-packed new chapter sees an extraction team venture into the most dangerous place on Earth, an island research facility for the original Jurassic Park, inhabited by the most uncontrollable giants that were left behind. Audience word-of-mouth remains mixed, with some praise coming in for Johansson's performance and the film's visual spectacle, but some criticism was directed at the predictable plot. The coming days will be crucial for the film's long-term run, especially with new releases like the superhero movie 'Superman' lined up for release later this week.

'Fire everyone involved': Vogue slammed for sidelining Usher on his own Super Bowl cover with white model front and center
Usher's Vogue cover, intended to celebrate his 30-year career and Super Bowl halftime performance, sparked controversy (Getty Images) In January 2024, as anticipation mounted for Usher's Super Bowl LVIII halftime performance, the R&B icon made headlines—not just for his career milestone, but for the controversy surrounding his first-ever Vogue cover. What should've been a triumphant solo spotlight for a singer with three decades of influence turned into a firestorm over artistic choices that many fans called 'disrespectful' and 'tone-deaf.' Usher landed Vogue cover—but shares the spotlight unexpectedly Vogue revealed its Winter 2024 Digital cover on January 17, 2024 featuring Usher alongside supermodel Carolyn Murphy and a youth football team. While the feature celebrated Usher's 30-year career and his upcoming Super Bowl show, the decision to position him behind Murphy raised eyebrows. 'For Vogue's Winter 2024 Digital issue, Usher discusses his 30-year career, his lifelong love of fashion, and what fans can expect at halftime next month,' the magazine shared on Instagram. Murphy, who posted additional shots from the shoot, praised Usher as 'a leading man in every sense.' But many online were baffled by why the Grammy-winning artist wasn't front and center on his own cover—especially when the piece was meant to honor his legacy and upcoming historic performance. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Concentrated Siberian Ginseng Extract 2oz Superior Ginseng Undo Fans called out Vogue for sidelining Usher on his own big moment Social media erupted almost instantly. An user, @thatsoleelee wrote, 'A Vogue cover with Usher should have, and easily could have been, iconic. Instead, you've made it unfortunate. No worries though. A Black publication will give us what we need.' Another user @JzonAzari wrote, 'There were multiple angles for football related covers and this was the choice? Back to the drawing board for more ideas because, no.' Fans thrashing Vogue (SS via Twitter) Another user @EbtheCeleb wrote, 'The CD needs to be fired. This is lazy and as fashionable as Usher is why was this the creative choice for him not to showcase fashion on the cover of a fashion magazine. Literally fire everyone involved.' Others drew parallels to LeBron James's 2008 Vogue cover with Gisele Bündchen—another instance critics felt played into problematic racial optics. Despite the noise, Usher remained focused on his mission for the halftime show. 'This night was specifically curated in my mind to have R&B take the main stage,' he told Vogue. 'Not just R&B music, but R&B performance, R&B connection, R&B spirit.' Also Read: Could 2025 be the last dance for Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes?
