Scotland's Ewen Ferguson missed out on a fourth DP World Tour title in a play-off at the Soudal Open in Belgium. The overnight leader looked set for victory but bogeyed his final hole, sending him into a three-way play-off with Norway's Kristoffer Reitan and Dutchman Darius van Driel. And it was Reitan who triumphed for a first career title on the European tour.Reitan started the day in 23rd place, trailing the Scot by nine shots, but carded a course-record 62 featuring 10 birdies.Ferguson's final round of level-par 71 meant he, Reitan and Van Driel ended the day tied on 13 under. The three returned to the 18th for the play-off, and after Ferguson and Van Driel missed their putts, Reitan holed in from 15 feet to claim victory."Its been a dream of mine since I was a little kid," said Reitan. "I keep thinking back to a few years ago when I was considering stopping playing because I didn't find it enjoyable any more, didn't see progress, and to be able to turn it around the way I have been doing the last couple of years has been amazing - to seal it with victory here is ridiculous."I felt like it was a little bit my day and that was evident at the end. I couldn't be more thrilled."

'End of Shankland saga is nigh, but how will it unfold?'

Another day, another - kinda - update on the Lawrence Shankland we all know by now, Derek McInnes' squad have headed out to Spain for a warm-weather training camp and the Scotland striker is not with according to Hearts Standard editor Joel Sked, the offer of a contract from the Tynecastle club is still there and his future remains "in the balance"."It seems like it's business as usual, the contract is on the table for Lawrence Shankland - a contract which would still make him the highest paid player at the club," Sked told BBC Sportsound."I have no problem with him holding out to see if there are options."I think it's still in the balance, but at the very end stage where, one way or another, something has to be done."Hearts kick off their season on 12 July against Dunfermline in the League Cup group stage, so it's safe to say time is ticking."Hearts will need someone to replace him if he doesn't stay," Sked added. "I get why they're trying to wait as long as possible because I think trying to replace Shankland will be very, very difficult."I don't think it will be much more of a saga, I think we're coming to the end of it, which is needed for all parties."

Bairns given 'a kick up the backside'

Falkirk were given "a wake-up call" in their defeat to League 2 side Edinburgh City, says assistant coach Paul Bairns were three goals down at home to Michael McIndoe's City, and despite a late rally, the Premiership new boys couldn't force a draw."A wee wake-up call for us," he told club media post-match."Defensively, we defend as a team so, when they're picking on the back four or whatever, we defend from the front, but we gave away three very, very poor goals the first half, which, gets the players a wee bit restless."Even in the first half, we had a lot of chances as well. I think were very poor in both boxes."It's a wee kick up the backside that we know we'll have to go and do things better. "We can't let our standards drop and our standards certainly dropped in the first half."

Sheridan questions 'excitement' around Hearts deal

Cillian Sheridan has questioned the "excitement" around Tony Bloom's £9.86m investment in Hearts and the Brighton owner's intent to challenge for whose Jamestown Analytics already had an ongoing relationship with Hearts, hopes the Tynecastle club can "disrupt the pattern of domination which has been in place for far too long" after completing a deal to buy a 29% stake."Celtic and Rangers will be doing something similar themselves," former Celtic, Kilmarnock and Dundee forward Sheridan told BBC Radio Scotland's Sportsound."I think there's maybe too much excitement about how much of a difference it's going to make." No team outside Celtic or Rangers has won the Scottish top flight in 40 years, with Sir Alex Ferguson's Aberdeen champions in Sheridan added: "£9m or £10m. I don't think that's going to challenge Celtic or Rangers. Celtic could go and buy, and I would imagine they probably will, one player in a transfer in the region of that."It might elevate Hearts above the rest of the pack but I don't think it's enough to challenge the [top] two, really."Last season, Brighton finished eighth in the Premier League, just missing out on Europe. Hearts were seventh in the Scottish Premiership."Brighton's model was, probably similar to Brentford's, getting players at bargain prices," said ex-Republic of Ireland international Sheridan, who is now with Brechin City."They get players who are unheard of. At what stage in the pecking order do Hearts come into it?"Do Hearts get the players that Brighton don't want? Which ones are Hearts getting?"
