Medical Exam Rules Out Sexual Assault Of Woman Who Died At Delhi Hospital

NDTV2 days ago

New Delhi:
The Delhi government on Thursday said that medical examination of a 23-year-old woman who died during treatment at a government hospital showed no signs of sexual assault, despite allegations to the contrary.
The statement came after the Opposition slammed the BJP-led Delhi government over the matter, flagging the "deteriorating" law and order situation and "crumbling" health infrastructure in the national capital.
The woman was allegedly molested by a patient in the same ward at the Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital, where she was initially admitted. She was later referred to the GTB Hospital, where she succumbed during treatment.
The accused, identified as Mohammed Faiz, a resident of Kachchi Khajuri, was arrested soon after, police said.
"A committee of senior doctors/officials was constituted on June 23 at Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital to inquire into the matter. As per reports submitted by the medical superintendent (MS) of JPCH, it was revealed through medical examination of the victim that no physical or sexual assault was found," the government statement said.
The hospital reports claimed that the woman was found lying unconscious on June 21 in Sonia Vihar. She was brought to the Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital by Delhi Police and was given proper treatment, the statement said.
On June 22, the woman was moved from the casualty ward to the high dependency unit (HDU). She allegedly went missing from the HDU in the wee hours of June 23 and was later found on the hospital premises that afternoon.
She was referred to the GTB Hospital on June 23 evening with a diagnosis of suspected poisoning. She passed away the next day during treatment.
The statement also stressed that CCTV cameras were functional outside the HDU of JPCH, and as part of the inquiry into the incident, necessary footage was collected and handed over to the investigating officer.
"On the basis of the committee findings and CCTV footage, the details of the on-duty nursing officer, sanitation staff and security guard have been shared with the investigating officer on June 25, and further investigation is being carried out by Delhi Police," the statement said.
The woman's post-mortem will be conducted at the GTB Hospital after completing the necessary legal procedures.
Her body is currently in the mortuary, and her close relatives and acquaintances are being traced, the statement said.
Earlier in the day, former Delhi health minister Saurabh Bharadwaj accused the government of trying to cover up the incident.
"I have never heard of anything like this before that a patient who came to the hospital for treatment was raped and later died. The government made significant efforts to cover up the incident. Government schools and hospitals are deteriorating," Bharadwaj, also the AAP Delhi convener, said.
He also claimed that in 2013, a patient was sexually assaulted in the same hospital.
"In 2013, during the Congress' tenure, there was a rape incident involving a patient at Delhi's Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital, though it did not result in death. The current case signals that the pre-2013 system is returning in Delhi," he charged.
Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav said the incident "fully exposed the crumbling healthcare system, weak security arrangements in hospitals, and the deteriorating law and order situation in Delhi".
He also accused the Delhi government of squandering taxpayer money to gloat over its "achievements" of the past 100 days.

Punjab Congress leaders under vigilance scrutiny fear being targeted by AAP-led govt ahead of 2027 polls

CHANDIGARH: With 19 months left till the 2027 assembly elections, the Punjab Congress leadership is apprehensive that the current AAP-led Punjab government might target party leaders who are facing vigilance inquiries. Such concerns have been raised following the arrest of Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Majithia in a drugs and disproportionate assets case, while former Health Minister and AAP MLA Vijay Singla and his OSD Pradeep Kumar were given a clean chit in a corruption case registered against them in 2022. Sources said that a charge sheet has been filed in cases registered against former Congress MLA Kushaldeep Singh Dhillon and former cabinet minister OP Soni. Other Congress leaders who are facing vigilance inquiries include: Punjab Congress President and Member of Parliament from Ludhiana Amarinder Raja Warring, former Chief Minister and Member of Parliament from Jalandhar Charanjit Singh Channi, former cabinet ministers Sunder Shyam Arora and Vijay Inder Singla, and MLAs Barindemeet Singh Pahra and Pargat Singh. Channi, who himself is under the scrutiny of the vigilance, claimed that those politicians who are vocal against the government are being targeted by the AAP government. "They have already been after me for a long time, several party leaders, including Jalandhar (Cantonment) MLA Pargat Singh, were under the lens of the vigilance bureau. After Bikram Majithia, Pargat Singh might be next target of the government," he said. Ludhiana MP Warring said, "It would be premature to comment at this moment." On the other hand, Punjab Police has given a clean chit to former Health Minister and AAP MLA Vijay Singla and his OSD Pradeep Kumar in corruption case registered against them in 2022 at Phase 8 Police Station in Mohali. The state police have filed a closure report in a court in Mohali recently, citing that no conclusive evidence was found to proceed against the accused. The court will take up the matter on July 14. While thhe complainant in the case, Rajinder Singh, a government engineer on deputation with Punjab Health System Corporation, has agreed with the closure report. It is worth mentioning here that the complainant had submitted that he was summoned to Punjab Bhawan, and a commission of one per cent was demanded from him. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had dismissed Singla from his cabinet.

MP Congress Chief Jitendra Patwari Booked For 'Bribing' Man To Claim He Was Fed Faeces

Last Updated: According to Madhya Pradesh Police, the claim of being fed human excreta turned out to be fake as they were made on "Jitu Patwari's demand." Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Jitendra Patwari is facing legal trouble after being accused of bribing a villager to falsely claim he was forced to eat human excreta. State police have filed a case based on an affidavit in which the villager alleged that some Congress leaders took him to Patwari, who then, offering a bribe, persuaded him to make the claim against the sarpanch of Mungaoli village. Earlier on June 25, Patwari posted a video on social media platform X showing him sitting with two brothers who alleged one of them was fed human excreta. Along with the video, the Congress leader posted a caption, blaming the BJP-led state government. — Jitendra (Jitu) Patwari (@jitupatwari) June 25, 2025 In the over 8-minute clip, he claimed a youth from the Lodhi community was targeted simply for asking for a ration slip. 'Prime Minister Ji, @BJP4MP The jungle rule of power is crossing the limits of anarchy! A youth from the Lodhi community had 'human excrement" stuffed in his mouth just because he asked for a 'ration slip"! ," Patwari tweeted in Hindi. In response to the FIR, Patwari 'welcomed" the move, remaining firm at the villager's claim and his criticism of the ruling government's handling of the incident. The Congress leader alleged that the accused are supporters of BJP MLA Brijendra Yadav which is why the DGP and the Chief Minister Mohan Yadav are not taking any action in the matter. 'It is alleged that since the accused are supporters of @BJP4India MLA Brijendra Yadav, that's why @DGP_MP and @CMMadhyaPradesh are not allowing any action to be taken?," Patwari further wrote on X. Recalling the incident in which a tribal youth was urinated upon in the state, he questioned, 'Why does #BJP consider Dalits, backward classes, and tribals as its enemies in Madhya Pradesh?." 'In this same Madhya Pradesh, a shameful incident of urinating on the head of a tribal youth has already taken place! Why does #BJP consider Dalits, backward classes, and tribals as its enemies in Madhya Pradesh?," he added. Slamming the BJP-led government, Patwari alleged that the law and order situation in the state has 'completely collapsed" and the people 'want freedom from this jungle rule! " 'The law and order in Madhya Pradesh have completely collapsed, yet @DrMohanYadav51 remains the Home Minister with arrogance! Meanwhile, the people of Madhya Pradesh now want freedom from this jungle rule! ," he wrote while concluding his post. According to Madhya Pradesh Police, the claim of being fed human excreta turned out to be fake as they were made on 'Jitu Patwari's demand." 'Later, he (the villager) said that the allegations about this were false, and he made this allegation on Jitu Patwari's demand… Based on this, a case has been filed against Jitu Patwari and his aides under various sections of BNS," news agency ANI quoted SP Vineet Kumar Jain as saying. News agency PTI reported that Mungavali police station in-charge Joginder Singh alleged that Patwari tried to mislead by sharing a video on social media to spread animosity in the society, instigate fighting among caste communities and disrupt peace. Singh said the complainant stated that he had been beaten up but denied that he was fed faeces. The complainant, in the FIR, has claimed Patwari promised him a motorcycle and said he would take care of his family, PTI reported. Reacting to the case filed against him, Jitendra Patwari said he would continue to raise his voice for the oppressed. 'The opposition should fulfil its responsibility when there are atrocities on the farmers, Dalits and the government should take it positively and take action. The government, on the contrary, commits a sin which is not its duty," news agency ANI quoted Patwari as saying. The Congress leader further said the FIR against him has once again exposed the 'dictatorship" of the ruling forces and their efforts to suppress the voice of the victims, PTI reported. 'This matter is not limited to just one FIR but is part of a deep conspiracy of pressure and manipulation by the ruling party, which is being hatched to defame the opposition leaders and bury the truth," PTI quoted him as saying. Patwari further pointed out that two days after the matter made headlines, the youth retracted his statement and claimed in an affidavit to the collector that he had made false allegations at his behest. Patwari alleged that the pressure of CM Mohan Yadav's government is visible behind the youth's affidavit and FIR. 'The way this whole matter turned around overnight shows the misuse of power and influence by the ruling party," he added. About the Author First Published:
