Broadridge to Acquire Acolin, Accelerating Modernization and Transparency in Cross-Border Fund Distribution

Associated Press5 hours ago
Acquisition will enhance Broadridge's global fund distribution, data and regulatory service capabilities and reinforce its role at the intersection of funds and distributors
LONDON and NEW YORK, July 3, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Global Fintech leader Broadridge Financial Solutions, Inc. (NYSE:BR) today announced its agreement to acquire Acolin, a leading European provider of cross-border fund distribution and regulatory services. The acquisition will create a robust pan-European fund distribution network, facilitating broader, more efficient access to investors and distribution partners while supporting the ongoing transformation and efficiency of fund distribution for asset managers worldwide.
'Acolin's fund distribution technology and compliance capabilities complement Broadridge's distribution data, intelligence and regulatory communication solutions, creating a simplified and modernized process for launching and distributing funds in Europe,' said Michael Tae, Broadridge's Group President of Funds, Issuer, and Data-driven Solutions. 'By optimizing the management of fund launches, distribution and compliance, we will enhance global distribution and help asset managers reach clients more efficiently.'
Acolin will extend Broadridge's services in Europe, expand its regulatory fund communications services to include additional compliance operations, integrate capabilities to support fund creation and broaden its distribution insights to better support the needs of European and global asset managers.
'Broadridge and Acolin are a natural fit,' said Theo Splinter, CEO of Acolin. 'The combination of Acolin's fund distribution and regulatory solutions with Broadridge's fund reporting and analytics capabilities will create an end-to-end solution for setting and executing a manager's fund distribution strategy, providing our clients with faster time-to-market and delivering significant efficiencies.'
Acolin, based in Zurich, is a specialized distribution support provider with over 350 clients and access to over 3,000 distributors across 30+ countries. Rather than connecting directly with multiple fund platforms and distributors to access regional European markets, asset managers engage Acolin to access many platforms and distributors, and centrally manage distributor data, contracts, commissions, and compliance needs. Acolin supports fund registrations, legal representation, and ongoing compliance across Europe on behalf of its clients.
Broadridge helps asset managers streamline investment operations, comply with changing regulations, and drive revenue and profitability with advanced data, analytics, and global market intelligence. Broadridge's European fund business serves nearly 500 asset managers, and tracks $110 trillion of assets under management, providing fund clients with an unparalleled global view into investor and asset trends.
The transaction is not expected to have a material impact on Broadridge's financial results and is expected to close in the first half of Broadridge's 2026 fiscal year, subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals.

New York may have America's top pizza, but LA is at its heels, Italian judges say

The best pizza in the United States comes from a wood-fired oven on New York's Lower East Side, an Italian pizza-ranking guide has announced. For the second year running, the Naples-based 50 Top Pizza judged Una Pizza Napoletana the winner in its annual assessment of American bakers. The ranking focuses strictly on Neapolitan-style pizza — the thin, round, fastidiously prepared variety from the city that considers itself the cradle of pizza — but to aficionados, it's the only type that matters. In a one-two punch, the Big Apple also claimed the top individual pizza slice, with the honors going to L'industrie Pizzeria, run by Massimo Laveglia and Nick Baglivo. Last year, Una Pizza Napoletana was also rated No. 1 in the whole world. The global rankings are due to be released later this year. Una Pizza Napoletana is owned by Anthony Mangieri. Born and raised in New Jersey, Mangieri opened his first pizzeria on the Jersey Shore in 1996. Food and Wine magazine has called Mangieri 'one of the country's most skilled practitioners of the Neapolitan style' of pizza, and New York magazine called him a 'one-man Opus Dei' for authentic pizza. The organization behind the ranking, 50 Top Pizza, cited the rich flavor of his pizzas and the his straightforward approach to making them, with only a few dishes on offer and a single location. Mangieri said that perfecting his technique has been his goal since he first started making pizzas at age 15. While his focus remains the same, he said the world of pizza has changed dramatically in the nearly 30 years since he established his first restaurant. 'When we opened, no one was making the style of pizza that we make,' he told CNN Travel. Now, he says, you can find good pizza all over the world, and American diners have come to appreciate fine Neapolitan pizza. He attributes his success to a strong work ethic that limits distractions. 'It is not a concept restaurant — it is not one of 20 things that I'm doing,' Mangieri said of the restaurant on Orchard Street in New York. 'It's a life's work.' Restaurants in Los Angeles and San Francisco snagged the next two spots on the list of top pizzerias in the US, which also included nine other New York pizzerias. Pizzeria Sei, the No. 2 pizzeria in the US, is run by William Joo, whom the organization deemed 'very talented.' And American pizza 'legend' Tony Gemignani came in third with his Tony's Pizza Napoletana in San Francisco. Other cities known for their pizza also made appearances on the list, including New Haven where the restaurant Zeneli was singled out. California fared particularly well, with honors also going to pizzerias in San Diego, San Luis Obispo and Berkeley. But the gospel of Neapolitan pizza has traveled widely, and the ranking also included restaurants in Louisville, Kentucky, and Charlotte, North Carolina. The ranking was announced at the West Edge in New York's Chelsea Market on Tuesday. Have a hankering for more pizza news? The organization will announce the best pizzerias in Italy on July 15 and the world's best pizzerias in September. The top 10 pizzerias in the US according to 50 Top Pizza: 1 Una Pizza Napoletana - (New York) 2 Pizzeria Sei – (Los Angeles) 3 Tony's Pizza Napoletana – (San Francisco) 4 Jay's – (Kenmore, New York) 5 Ribalta – (New York) 6 Robert's – (Chicago) 7 Don Antonio – (New York) 8 Ken's Artisan Pizza – (Portland, Oregon) 9 Truly Pizza – (Dana Point, California) 10 La Leggenda – (Miami)

Putin Faces Coal Crisis in Russia

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. One of Russia's top mining companies has become the first coal producer to get government aid in a deepening crisis for an industry hit hard by plummeting global demand and sanctions due to Vladimir Putin's war on Ukraine. Mechel announced the government reprieve, although has warned the industry faces significant difficulties as producers brace for a slump in sales. Russia is the world's sixth biggest producer of coal, but the industry in the country faces what has been described as the worst crisis since the 1990s. Issac Levi from the Centre of Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) told Newsweek that state support is one of the only ways for Russian coal firms to avoid bankruptcy. Newsweek has contacted Mechel for comment. Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin, on June 30, 2025, in Moscow, Russia. Getty Images Why It Matters While a smaller contributor to GDP than oil and gas, Russia's coal industry is still a critical sector for dozens of single-industry towns where it employs hundreds of thousands of workers. European sanctions for Putin's aggression included a ban on Russian coal imports in 2022, and other markets like China and India have not made up the shortfall. Dwindling coal exports could be a political headache for Putin, especially amid other bad news for the wartime economy, such as a downturn in manufacturing and warnings by Russian officials about inflation and high interest rates. What To Know Mechel's deputy finance director, Nelli Galeeva, said it had received a three-year deferral on tax and social security payments worth 13 billion rubles ($166 million). The government support will also include saving an extra 500 million rubles ($6 million) per month through industry-wide assistance measures like deferred mineral extraction tax and social insurance payments, according to the agency Interfax, as cited by The Moscow Times. Mechel chief executive Oleg Korzhov said the coal industry was in a "very difficult situation" and despite the government's help, his firm would cut shipments in 2025 by about a quarter compared with last year. KIRILL KUDRYAVTSEV//Getty Images Levi, CREA's Europe-Russia policy and energy analysis team lead, told Newsweek Russia's coal industry problems partially stem from a sharp drop in global demand—especially from China, where steel production and coal prices had plunged. Amplifying these problems are a strong ruble, low domestic and global coal prices and sanctions which have restricted market access, raised logistics costs, and limited financing, he said. As the Russian coal sector continues to struggle, state support seems to be one of the few reasons many companies can survive and avoid bankruptcy, he added. The Spiridonovskaya mine in Siberia's Kemerovo region suspended operations last month due to a lack of financing, according to the regional coal industry ministry. It comes as business activity in Russia's manufacturing sector had its biggest drop since the start of the war, according to S&P Global. It said the Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for Russian manufacturing dropping from 50.2 in May to 47.5, where a reading below 50 indicates a contraction. Meanwhile, Russian officials have warned about Russia's economy, such as German Gref, CEO of the country's biggest bank Sberbank, who said high inflation and the high key interest rate could not be solved quickly. Central Bank Governor Elvira Nabiullina and economy minister Maxim Reshetnikov also issued warnings— the former that the conditions for growth were "exhausted", with the latter saying the country was on the "brink of recession." What People Are Saying Mechel's deputy finance director Nelli Galeeva, per Interfax: "We received an installment plan for the payment of taxes, fees, insurance payments of more than 13 billion will use the released cash flow to support our operating activities." Mechel chief executive Oleg Korzhov: "Nearly all coal producers are facing extremely difficult the current exchange rate, selling coal is unprofitable." Isaac Levi, CREA's Europe-Russia policy and energy analysis team lead, to Newsweek: "Industry-wide, the Russian coal sector is struggling, and state support seems to be one of the few reasons many companies can survive and avoid bankruptcy." What Happens Next Levi said if coal production in Russia is curtailed further and interest rates decline—raising the dollar exchange rate—the financial burden on coal firms may ease. This may potentially stabilize coal prices, but the country's export prospects will largely hinge on demand from China, he added. "Any fluctuation in Chinese import activity could significantly impact the industry's recovery and pricing stability."

Ikea's smart home hub is now a Matter controller.

Ikea's smart home hub is now a Matter controller. The Swedish retail giant's latest update for its Dirigeria hub adds the feature in beta. Matter controller functionally means you can add Matter devices from other brands to the hub and control them with Ikea's Home Smart app. The hub is already a Matter bridge, allowing its lights, blinds, and sensors to be used on other Matter platforms (Apple Home, Alexa, etc.). With a Matter controller, Ikea can become a Matter platform in its own right.
