Will always uphold Anna's legacy: Edappadi K Palaniswami
CHENNAI: Joining issue with Chief Minister M K Stalin's charge that the AIADMK had mortgaged the name of Dravidian icon Arignar Anna, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Thursday asked whether Stalin and the DMK have any locus standi to utter the name of Anna. He also said the AIADMK would not relinquish its connection with Anna, not even for a moment.
Earlier in the day, speaking at a public function at Tirupathur, the CM criticised the screening of 'disgraceful' videos about great leaders at the Murugan Maanadu, and said that those from the AIADMK, which has Anna in their party name, at the conference remained a mute spectator and mortgaged the name of Anna.
'Today, they have mortgaged their party. Tomorrow, we should not allow them to mortgage Tamil Nadu,' Stalin added.
Reacting to this, Palaniswami said since former CM M Karunanidhi 'had destroyed the principles of Anna', the late leader M G Ramachandran launched the AIADMK to safeguard the noble principles of Anna. 'We will not relinquish the legacy of the great scholar and statesman Anna,' he added.
Palaniswami said starting from Katchatheevu to Cauvery, it was the DMK which mortgaged the rights of TN. 'The self-respecting people of TN will most certainly oust the double-faced DMK in 2026!' he added.
Palaniswami also promised the people of TN that he would restore peace, prosperity, development, and the rights of the state, 'which have been lost due to the DMK', in 2026. 'This is my first electoral promise to the people of TN,' he added.

EPS condemns delay in IBT functioning, AIADMK plans protest on July 3
Trichy: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Saturday condemned the delay in commissioning the Integrated Bus Terminus (IBT) at Panjapur and the slow progress of various civic works in Trichy. He announced that the party will stage a protest in the city on July 3. Palaniswami criticised the DMK government for failing to make the IBT operational, despite chief minister M K Stalin inaugurating the Rs 492-crore facility on May 9. He alleged that the inauguration was done in haste and without ensuring readiness, leading to public dissatisfaction. He also pointed to delays in other key infrastructure projects, including the reconstruction of Maris Flyover and roadwork near Palakkarai, which he said were disrupting traffic and inconveniencing residents. The protest will be held at MGR Thidal near Marakkadai in Trichy. AIADMK leaders C Vijayabaskar, Pudukkottai district secretary, and J Srinivasan, Trichy urban secretary, will lead the demonstration.

Our priority is to speed up implementation of government schemes: Chief Minister Stalin
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said on Saturday that his top priority was to speed up the implementation of government schemes that were lagging and to meet the expectations of the women and youth he had interacted with during his tour on June 25 and 26. 'In all districts, at least one family has benefitted from the schemes of the DMK government in the last four years. I interact with people to understand the benefits that have reached their districts and the employment opportunities created through industries,' he said, writing about his experience in the Vellore and Tirupattur districts. Mr. Stalin asserted that he does not get carried away by praise and was always open to constructive criticism and willing to make corrections. 'I reject criticism that stem from hatred,' he added. Seeking to put an end to reports that Minister Duraimurugan was no longer in his good books, the Chief Minister said it was a great experience to travel with Mr. Duraimurugan and hear about his political journey. 'He has worked with Anna and Kalaignar, and he continues to work with me. That proves his commitment,' he said. Mr. Stalin also appreciated the arrangements made by Minister for Public Works E.V. Velu during his visit to Tirupattur, where he unveiled the statue of former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. He also recalled his emotional one-on-one meeting with Killai Ravichandran from Cuddalore. 'The path of the Dravidian movement is clear — it connects party cadre with the people. It will overcome all obstacles and unite everyone under one front,' he added.

DMK slams BJP over resignation of Dalit legislator from Puducherry Cabinet
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), the principal Opposition party in Puducherry, has come out strongly against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the resignation of a Dalit legislator from the Puducherry Cabinet. Opposition leader and DMK convenor R. Siva, in a statement, said the party condemns the BJP for seeking the resignation of A.K. Sai J. Saravanan Kumar from the Cabinet headed by Chief Minister N. Rangasamy. Mr. Kumar's resignation from the Cabinet comes two years after the removal of another Dalit Minister S. Chandira Priyanga from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in the UT. It may be recalled that Ms. Priyanga, a member of the Chief Minister's All India N.R. Congress, a major constituent of the NDA in Puducherry, was dropped from the Cabinet in 2023 as she was 'deficient' in her performance as Minister. 'Two years after the removal of Ms. Priyanga, another Dalit Minister has been removed from the Cabinet without giving any reason. There is no Dalit representation in the NDA government in Puducherry now. It is highly condemnable. The vacancy in the Cabinet has to be filled only with the appointment of a Dalit member,' the Opposition leader said. He also questioned the necessity to appoint three nominated legislators. The appointments are solely made by the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the elected Assembly or the people of the UT have no role in the same, after the BJP came to power at the Centre in 2014, he said.
