Texas A&M softball picks up another SEC series win over Missouri during the weekend
No. 1 Texas A&M (39-6, 13-4 SEC) secured another SEC series victory after beating Missouri (23-26, 4-14 SEC) 2 out of 3 games at the Mizzou Softball Stadium over the weekend.
The Aggies escaped Missouri with a series win after a tough three-game series against a scrappy Tigers team on the road. This past weekend proved that rankings and records mean nothing in the SEC, with every weekend being a dogfight. Due to inclement weather warnings, A&M started off the weekend with a doubleheader, with the series wrapping up on Friday.
Game 1
The series started with an Aggie 7-5 win that required a comeback victory that was started by a single by Amari Harper while down 4-5 in the top of the seventh inning. An error allowed Mya Perez to take first base, then a double by Koko Wooley to tie the game. Allie Enright followed that up with a double of her own, scoring two for a 7-5 lead late in the game, and Emiley Kennedy retired the 3 of the last 4 batters to win Game 1.
Game 2
This was a much closer contest that went into extra innings. A&M knocked in three runs, taking a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning. The Tigers, being the tough team they are, scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings to tie, extending the game. After a scoreless eighth, Harper hit a solo home run that proved to be the game winner after Kennedy shut down the Tigers in the bottom of the ninth to win the series.
Game 3
A&M was never in this game from the beginning, with the Tigers jumping out to an early 4-0 lead. The Aggies squandered a bases-loaded no-out opportunity in the top of the third inning, only coming away with one run, leaving three stranded on base. The very next inning, Missouri tacked on two more runs to go up 6-1, then they finished the Aggies off in the fifth inning with three more runs, run-ruling the Aggies in the final game of the series.
Even though the Aggies suffered an embarrassing loss, leaving 10 runners on base, they still took a tough road series against a team that played just as well against Texas and Oklahoma. However, coach Trisha Ford will have a lot to say to her team after this series. It exposed some areas they need to clean up with a solid midweek opponent and two top-ten conference series left on the schedule.
Texas A&M will face Louisiana in the last midweek game of the season on April 22 at 5:00 p.m. CT at Davis Diamond. The game will be streamed on the SEC Network.

Where Tennessee football is predicted to finish in 2025 SEC standings

2025 will mark the fifth football season for Tennessee under head coach Josh Heupel. He has compiled a 37-15 (20-12 SEC) record with the Vols from 2021-24. Heupel guided Tennessee to its first College Football Playoff appearance in program history last season. He is also 2-2 versus both Alabama and Florida. 'Embarking into year five, as I was getting ready for today, I really rewound back to year one and how myself and our staff came to Tennessee and the adversity in which we took the program over,' Heupel said at SEC media days. 'I'm really proud of what we've done, from roster management to some of the recruiting things we've had to deal with. It's how I know our best is in front of us. What has crippled other programs in the past, University of Tennessee and our football program has been able to flourish. You look over the last three years, 30 wins, the most wins in Tennessee in the stretch of three years of Tennessee football since the late '90s, if you look at the College Football Playoff, New Year's Six bowl wins, you look at what we've done in the NFL draft. The best stretch of NFL draft picks in Tennessee in over two decades. "While we've been able to have that success on the field, players have done an unbelievable job inside our community. Each year we've set a team GPA record in the history of Tennessee football. I'm extremely proud of what our staff and our players have done here in a short amount of time." Following SEC media days, media members voted on the order of finish for league teams in 2025. Tennessee is predicted to finish in ninth place. Texas is projected to win the SEC and Georgia is second. Follow Vols Wire on Facebook and X (formerly Twitter).

Cowboys third-year bench guy is sleeper to find his way into starting lineup

It's almost a forgone conclusion that Terence Steele and Tyler Guyton will begin the 2025 season as the Dallas Cowboys starting offensive tackles. One is a first-round pick, and the other is the highest paid lineman on the roster. The Cowboys might not want to admit it, but money and draft pedigree play around these parts and these two players will be given every opportunity in 2025. The only problem here is neither of these offensive tackles are very good in pass protection. In fact, a case can be made they're downright terrible at it. With Guyton just 24 years old, that could definitely change in an instant, but both tackles struggled mightily with this portion of their jobs. As such, the man situated directly behind them has a lot to gain from a tumultuous preseason from the starters. Asim Richards, the back-up left tackle and a potential 2025 swing tackle, is another 24-year-old with upside. The former North Carolina product has been a steady contributor in Dallas, logging 220 offensive snaps over the past two seasons. Working primarily at LT, Richards is a direct alternative to Guyton. Guyton reportedly is having a great offseason but the same was said at this time last year so words of hype should be taken with a grain of salt. Guyton has all the physical skills be a solid LT in the NFL if he can just take a step in the head and heart department. Richards seemingly has the head and heart covered and has been showing steady gains from the physical side of things. He doesn't have the ceiling of Guyton but he offers a decent floor. His ability to set the floor likely contributed to Chuma Edoga leaving in free agency and offers Dallas a solid Plan B should Guyton falter. It's difficult to say if Richards is an option at right tackle. He's worked almost exclusively on the left and the Cowboys may want to focus the rookie Ajani Cornelius on that task opposite Richards. Steele is a good enough run blocker and extremely durable anyway, so it's likely Richard's best chances will come behind Guyton at LT. Guyton is someone everyone should be rooting for and the someone the coaching staff is encouraged to be patient with. His potential is undeniable and the rewards well worth some bumps in the road. But Richards is in a very, dare it be said 'awesome' situation as a backup coming to camp. He's a favorite for a top reserve role and he has a reasonable path to starting lineup. If he develops at the same rate he's been trending, he could be a starting quality OT by some point this year. Here's where Florida's Billy Napier lands on The Athletic's hot seat index

Billy Napier and his Florida football program saw a second-half surge last season that ostensibly saved the head coach's job, finishing above the .500 mark for the first time in four years while winning their first bowl game since 2019. It was a clutch stretch that gave Napier and Co. a second life... but they are not out of the woods quite yet. Once again, the Orange and Blue face one of the most difficult schedules in the nation, which includes navigating through a brutal Southeastern Conference slate. While the hot seat status of the sideline corps has cooled to a simmer this summer, a bad start to the 2025 campaign could turn the burner right back up. Following the past week's SEC media days event, The Athletic's Seth Emerson took on the task of assembling his preseason head coach hot seat index. In it, he placed Napier in the "lukewarm" category — below the "hot" and "warm", but above the final "cool, but..." tiers — alongside LSU Tigers skipper Brian Kelly. "The vibes in Gainesville are definitely good, and Napier has turned a corner after winning five of seven to end 2024," Emerson begins. "After going through the media gauntlet on Wednesday, Napier acknowledged it was a nice change from last year." "A little more narrative about turning around, than how do you turn it around, if that makes sense,' Napier offered during his turn at the podium. "Look, we're preparing to be dropped in the deep end of the ocean again. That's the world we live in. The good thing is we have a team that's prepared, they know what winning football looks like.' However, Emerson acknowledges that there are plenty of variables in play — many of which can easily turn for the worse. "Still, things could go sideways again, especially with a daunting schedule and the health of QB DJ Lagway still a question. And Napier's buyout is down to $20 million. He may not need a College Football Playoff appearance, but he does need to keep momentum in the right direction," he concludes.
