Samsung Exynos 2500 unveiled, new 3nm chipset likely power upcoming flagships
Samsung used its 3nm Gate-All-Around (GAA) manufacturing process for the new SoC. This new method not only makes the Exynos 2500 physically smaller but also enhances its power efficiency and heat dissipation. All this new technology makes the new chip notably more efficient and powerful than its predecessor, the Exynos 2400.
The Exynos 2500 features a deca-core CPU arranged in a quad-cluster configuration. This includes one prime core, Cortex X925, clocked at 3.3 GHz for heavy lifting. The rest include two Cortex A725 at 2.76 GHz, five Cortex A725 at 2.35 GHz, and two Cortex A520 at 1.8 GHz.
This new setup delivers a 15% increase in performance over the previous generation. The GPU is Xclipse 950, which is built on AMD's RDNA 3 architecture. With 8 Work Group Processors (WGPs) and 8 Render Backends (RBs), this GPU offers a 28% boost in frame rates and hardware-accelerated ray tracing. Samsung has added a powerful Neural Processing Unit (NPU) in the Exynos 2500 to enable on-device AI features. This new NPU is capable of 59 trillion operations per second (TOPS), a significant improvement over the Exynos 2400.
On the imaging front, the Exynos 2500 supports up to 320 MP camera sensors with 8K video recording at 30 fps. It also features multi-layer noise reduction and Dynamic Range Compression (DRC) for sharper photos and videos.
Samsung future-proofed the Exynos 2500 with support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, 5G (sub-6GHz and mmWave), and satellite-based messaging (NTN support). The chip also supports LPDDR5X RAM and faster UFS 4.1 storage for seamless multitasking and faster data processing.

While not official renders, they hint at a dual-hinge mechanism that folds inward from both sides, forming a G-shaped fold. This structural design is a notable contrast to Huawei's Mate XT, which folds in an S-shaped format and currently holds the title of the world's first tri-fold handset. When unfolded, Samsung's tri-fold is expected to boast a massive 10-inch display, rivaling Huawei's 10.2-inch screen. Under the hood, the device is rumored to be powered by Qualcomm's cutting-edge Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, keeping in line with what users expect from a flagship foldable. Adding to the leaks, China's 3C certification database recently listed a device with model number SM-F9680, believed to be the Galaxy G Fold. The listing confirms support for 25W wired charging via Samsung's EP-TA800 adapter—a speed that's already raising eyebrows. Huawei's Mate XT Ultimate supports 66W fast charging, and even Samsung's own mid-range Galaxy A56 offers 45W. The tri-fold's charging speed, while consistent with previous Samsung foldables like the Z Fold 7, may feel underwhelming in 2025, especially given the larger display and more demanding hardware. Samsung has often prioritised battery health over aggressive charging speeds, but this conservative approach may now face renewed scrutiny. With users increasingly expecting quick top-ups and long-lasting power from premium devices, charging could become a point of contention for the Galaxy G Fold. Samsung's maiden tri-fold smartphone could be called Galaxy G fold and may feature a mechanism similar to the Flex G prototype previously demonstrated by Samsung Display Samsung could be ready to showcase its first tri-fold smartphone at the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event, scheduled for July 9. According to a report by Android Authority, the device might feature a unique wing-style unfolding mechanism, distinct from the Huawei Mate XT's 'Z'-shaped tri-fold design. Samsung's approach is said to centre around a cover display built into the middle panel, with the display folding inward from both sides. This design concept matches the Flex G prototype previously demonstrated by Samsung Display at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2022. Samsung tri-fold smartphone: What to expect As per Android Authority, Samsung included a new video tutorial in a beta build of its Android 16-based OneUI 8. The tutorial shows how NFC (Near Field Communication) will function on a tri-fold smartphone, further hinting at an imminent reveal. The report suggested that the device may be officially called the Galaxy G Fold. According to the video, the Galaxy G Fold could include three panels. The left-most rear panel appears to house a triple rear camera set-up in a design reminiscent of current Galaxy Z Fold models. The centre panel will reportedly carry the cover screen, while both hinges will fold inward—mirroring the G-shaped Flex G concept—leaving the rear of the centre panel exposed when folded, so it can function as the outer display. Notably, the report mentions that the two hinges are of different sizes. This asymmetry may help the device fold more cleanly, as equal-sized hinges may not allow for a flat-folding design. A second tutorial within the beta warns users not to fold the camera-side panel first, likely because doing so would prevent the rear panel from lying flat atop the camera bump. While technical specifications remain under wraps, Samsung is expected to tease or preview the Galaxy G Fold at the July 9 Galaxy Unpacked event, where it will also unveil its next-generation Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip models. The tri-fold device itself is tipped to launch later in the year, likely by October.

India 'super important' market; Reliance Jio using our GPUs: AMD
India is a "super important" market for AMD and the largest telco Reliance Jio is among the customers using the graphic processing units ( GPUs ) in its data centres, a senior official has said. The company, which has around 8,000 employees here, considers India as a key hub from an engineering perspective, officials have said. Speaking to PTI on the sidelines of the Advancing AI event organised by the company recently, AMD General Manager for Data Center GPU business unit Andrew Dieckman spoke about the work with Jio. "So we've deployed a fairly significant POC (proof of concept) with them that we're working on. And we are working on some future deployment plans that are yet to be announced in the future," he said, adding that Jio is an "important partner" for the company in India. Earlier, the company's Chief Executive Lisa Su said it is working with top companies, including Meta, OpenAI, Tesla, and Reliance Jio, for powering their AI advancements, and added that many of the customers have been added in the last nine months. About 70 per cent of companies at the top of AI work, including Reliance Jio, are using AMD's 'Instinct' GPUs, she said, displaying a long list of brands. It can be noted that Jio had earlier announced a partnership with AMD's bigger rival Nvidia on building AI infrastructure in the country. The collaboration is aimed at advancing India's capabilities in harnessing the power of AI for various industries and sectors, as per the company. There were media reports last year saying Jio's parent Reliance Industries will be using Nvidia's Blackwell chips for its data center. At the event, Su said her company's offerings are much cheaper than rivals while delivering the same or better computing performance. On perceptions of Nvidia holding the edge when it comes to the GPU market, Dieckman said one company will not define everything that is AI for the entire world and added that it is a very large market that can accommodate multiple winners. "There will not be one company that will define everything that is AI for the entire world. This is not healthy, and nor will strong companies and strong sovereign nations allow that to happen, because it's just putting all of your eggs in one very specific basket," he said. AMD is not a "transactional company" and believes in a very collaborative mindset, he said, pointing out that it has an open ecosystem. Apart from working with Reliance Jio, AMD is also keen on offering its services to the Sovereign AI initiative, he said. "We are seeking to work very closely with the various large players there (in India) to bring domestic solutions to market and make sure that India is well represented in terms of having your own sovereign AI capabilities. AMD is working with 40 sovereigns or governments across the globe at present, he added. Speaking about AMD's operations in the country, where it employs over 8,000 people, Dieckman said the company has a large footprint in India and the country plays a critical role in its research and development. "When you look at the growth rate and GDP of India, (it is) super important on market for us. And we are seeking to work very closely with, you know, the various large players there to bring domestic solutions to market and make sure that India is well represented in terms of having your own sovereign AI capabilities," he said.
