Egypt issues nearly 20 million digital treatment approvals as health insurance digitalisation accelerates
Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, spokesperson for the ministry, described the development as a 'significant breakthrough' in digital transformation. He noted that over 13 million online appointments have been made across 250 clinics, with a further 120 clinics currently undergoing digital conversion and receiving new technical infrastructure.
In addition, 160 clinic archives have been fully digitised, with work ongoing on another 247. The authority has also automated 239 medical warehouses, as well as several specialised medical committees—including those for cardiology, cochlear implants, blood, and growth hormone treatments. Hospitals have been integrated into the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS), streamlining the management and sharing of medical imaging.
Ahmed Mostafa, Head of the Health Insurance Authority, announced that the digital platform of the New Administrative Capital Hospital has been successfully linked to the National Unified Emergency and Safety Network. He added that preparations are underway to activate artificial intelligence (AI) services and upgrade the digital infrastructure across affiliated hospitals.
Mostafa reaffirmed the Authority's commitment to Egypt's national digital strategy, emphasising that digitalisation is a central pillar of ongoing healthcare reform. He stressed that these efforts aim to enhance service quality, operational efficiency, and patient outcomes across the country.

The third edition of the '100 Million Health' initiative concluded this week. It was launched on 15 July and ran for 11 days. The initiative's third edition provided special focus on mental health and well-being via the 'Your Health is Happiness' campaign, where 2,700 mental health services were provided to individuals who need psychological support and counselling. In addition, educational workshops and outreach events were organised to raise awareness regarding major health topics, preventive care, and how to benefit from available services. According to Hossam Abdel-Ghaffar, the spokesman of the Ministry of Health and Population, the 100 Million Health campaign accomplished several successes in demonstrating measurable progress in enhancing public health, and expanding access to preventive and curative services, in addition to improving the quality of life for millions of citizens. 'With each phase, the campaign reinforces the government's vision of aresilient, integrated and equitable healthcare system — one that prioritises citizens' well-being and empowers communities through knowledge, access, and innovation,' Abdel-Ghaffar said. The health initiative was first launched in October 2018 by President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi to provide free medical and healthcare services to more than 100 million citizens. The initiative is still actively delivering services to millions of people and has since given rise to 15 additional health campaigns. According to Heba Said, general coordinator of the initiative at the General Authority for Health Insurance, the initiative has successfully eliminated Hepatitis C (HIV) as millions of individuals were screened and treated. Moreover, millions were screened for chronic conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and heart diseases, with the necessary treatments provided. The initiative also included several campaigns that focused on women's health, such as early breast cancer detection and family planning services, Said stated, adding that pre-marital screening was provided for millions of youths to detect infectious and genetic diseases, and received appropriate counselling. The initiative, according to Said, delivered a variety of healthcare services for children, including vaccinations and routine health checkups. Fawzi Fathi, executive director of the initiative, pointed out that 50 million people aged over 18 were screened nationwide, 3.2 million secondary school students were screened for HIV all over the country, and 10.7 million students were examined for nutritional disorders, stunting, and obesity. The campaign identified 2.2 million citizens with HIV antibodies, and 900,000 have so far received HIV treatment through the initiative. One of the key challenges is ensuring the continuity of services provided by the campaign after its various phases conclude, Fathi said. He added that some cases may require ongoing and precise follow-up to ensure effective treatment and outcomes. Additional efforts may be needed to reach underserved populations, especially in remote areas, Fathi said. According to Fathi, the first edition focused on screening for Hepatitis C and non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity, while the second expanded to include early detection and treatment of cancer, with special focus on women's health. Jul 29, 2025 The Ministry of Health and Population announced that the Presidential Women's Health Initiative has recorded more than 60.5 million visits since its launch in July 2019. Aimed at women aged 18 and above, the programme provides free screening for breast cancer, diabetes, hypertension, and obesity. According to ministry data, the total includes 22.7 million first-time visits, 24.9 million periodic follow-ups, and 12.8 million irregular consultations. Over 823,000 women were referred to hospitals for advanced diagnostics, including mammograms and tumour sampling, with 33,573 confirmed cases of breast cancer. All confirmed cases received free treatment. The initiative is delivered through 3,663 healthcare units and 102 hospitals across Egypt. As part of the programme, more than 446,000 mammograms and over 51,000 tumour analyses have been conducted. A total of 29,341 inquiries were handled through the '100 Million Healthy Lives' hotline (15335), and thousands of medical staff have received specialised training to support the programme's continued rollout.

Over 60 million visits recorded under Egypt's Women's Health Initiative since 2019
Egypt's Ministry of Health and Population announced on Saturday that the Presidential Women's Health Initiative has provided more than 60 million visits since its launch in July 2019, offering free screenings and awareness services to promote early breast cancer detection and improve women's overall health. Health Ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said the initiative has recorded a total of 60.5 million visits, comprising 22.7 million first-time visits, 24.9 million follow-up visits, and 12.8 million for non-regular cases. He noted that 823,670 women were referred to hospitals for advanced diagnostics. The services are delivered through 3,663 primary healthcare units nationwide, supported by 102 hospitals equipped to provide further evaluation and treatment when needed. The program adheres to international standards for breast cancer care, backed by 14 Ministry of Health centres and 14 university hospital centres, all offering services free of charge. These centres are also being prepared to participate in applied research on cancer treatment. Targeting women aged 18 and above, the initiative also screens for non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and obesity, alongside education on reproductive health and family planning. Hatem Amin, Executive Director of the initiative, reported that 33,573 breast cancer cases have been detected since its launch, with 446,964 mammograms performed and 51,479 tumour samples collected for analysis. All confirmed cases received treatment at no cost. Additionally, mobile clinics examined 137,706 women and conducted mammograms for 55,554 of them. Amin noted that patients are followed up through both the national health insurance and public healthcare systems. He also highlighted the ministry's efforts in training medical staff—including doctors, nurses, and radiology technicians—and mentioned that 29,341 inquiries were received via the '100 Million Health' hotline (15335) between November 2021 and June 2025.
