Junior All Blacks into U20s World Cup final after gritty win over France
In an open game in Viadana, New Zealand raced out to a 14-0 lead but were reeled back twice in the first half as France made them pay for 28 missed tackles to only trail by five at the break after Fabien Brau-Boirie's late slice through the defence.
The second half was a much tighter affair, New Zealand's defence keeping France at bay for the first 20 minutes before two yellow cards in quick succession for centre Jack Wiseman and wing Frank Vaenuku looked to open the door for Les Bleuets.
However, New Zealand did not concede a point while they were two men down and ultimately ran out the winners to reach a first final since they won the championship for a sixth time in 2017.
Stanley Solomon, Mosese Bason and Wiseman were first-half try scorers, with replacement lock Aisake Vakasiuola scoring a crucial try near the end.

First-five Rico Simpson kicked four conversions and two penalties.
It was a mature and gritty performance from a side whose head coach Milton Haig resigned on the eve of the tournament.
"We talked about this game being our final," halfback and vice-captain Dylan Pledger said. "I think the boys played it like a final out there and now we've got one more game to go."
South Africa, beaten by New Zealand in the U20s Rugby Championship this year, were 48-24 victors over Argentina in the other semifinal this morning.
The junior Boks last won a world championship in 2012.

2026 Winter Games medals unveiled in Italy
A view of the medals for the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, unveiled in Venice yesterday. PHOTO: REUTERS Organisers of the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics unveiled yesterday the medals that will be awarded to athletes during the Games next year. The medals have the traditional Olympic five-ring symbol on one side with an inscription on the reverse that details the event and commemorates the venue. The same format has been used for the Paralympics, which has its own distinct symbol. They were presented at a ceremony in Venice on Tuesday that featured two celebrated retired Italian athletes, swimmer Federica Pellegrini, and Francesca Porcellato, who has won gold medals at both Winter and Summer Paralympics. ''Each medal, whether Olympic or Paralympic, is a story etched into metal: it speaks of effort, determination, sacrifice, and the hopes of those who have lived to reach the podium,'' Giovanni Malago, president of the Milano-Cortina 2026 Foundation, said. The medals have been produced by the IPZS, the state mint, which is owned by the economy ministry. A total of 245 gold, 245 silver, and 245 bronze medals will be presented during the Winter Games. In the Paralympics, 137 medals will be awarded in each of the three rankings. Milan and the town of Cortina d'Ampezzo, one of Italy's most famous ski resorts, are the main hosts of the Games, which run from February 6 to 22 next year. The Paralympics will follow from March 6 to 15.

Another code switch?: Roger Tuivasa-Sheck 'on verge' of signing for R360 rugby comp
Roger Tuivasa-Sheck in action for the Warriors, is now being linked to a breakaway rugby comp. Photo: Jeremy Ward/Photosport Warriors star and former All Black Roger Tuivasa-Sheck is being linked to a Saudi Arabia-backed rebel rugby competition, according to an Australian media report. Tuivasa-Sheck "is on the verge'' of becoming the first NRL player to sign for the R360 competition, the Sydney Morning Herald has reported. The newspaper said he had been in discussions about joining the competition in 2027 on a deal worth around $1 million a year. Tuivasa-Sheck still had one year to run on his three-year Warriors deal, which was worth about $600,000 annually. The 32-year-old played for the Warriors for six years before a code switch to rugby was announced in 2021. He had a two-year foray in that code, which saw him play for the Blues in Super Rugby and gain selection in three matches for the All Blacks, but miss being picked for the 2023 Rugby World Cup. He returned to the NRL with the Warriors last year. The Sydney Morning Herald said Warriors chief executive Cameron George was aware of R360's interest in Tuivasa-Sheck's services but would not discuss the matter when contacted. However, he did warn at a recent meeting of NRL chief executives about the threat that the rebel competition posed to rugby league. "I'm aware of players that have been interviewed and engaged with. I'm aware of the significant financial opportunities that it could bring, particularly around the branding of the players as individuals,'' the SMH quoted him as saying. It's understood top players in the rebel league could earn close to $3.4 million a season. Former England centre Mike Tindall has been reported to be one of the figures behind the breakaway competition, which aims to make the sport more appealing to a global audience. Another current NRL star Kalyn Ponga, who was born in Australia to New Zealand parents, has also been mentioned as a R360 possible. There have been reports of uncertainty over Ponga's future at the Newcastle Knights and that he has engaged a New Zealand-based rugby agent to explore his options.
