See it: SpaceX 'jellyfish' spotted across mid-Atlantic, Northeast sky as pair of satellites launch into orbit
SpaceX launched the satellites on Tuesday evening on one of its Falcon 9 rockets from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. Fog obscured the view for some along Florida's Space Coast. However, because of the launch trajectory and final orbit of the satellites, those to the north of the Sunshine State had the best view of this mission.
Social media users across the mid-Atlantic and Northeast shared images of the SpaceX "jellyfish" created as the rocket went soaring into the sky.
The video at the top of this story was taken in Morehead City, North Carolina.
The launch was also visible from Topsail Beach, North Carolina, where this photo was taken.
The jellyfish in the sky was bright on Assateague Island, Maryland, just after sunset, creating a colorful sky in the background.
MAXAR selected SpaceX to launch its fifth and sixth Worldview Legion satellites into orbit. With its current satellites, the technology company provides high-resolution images of the world, including recent weather events and natural disasters.

"The outage was due to failure of key internal software services that operate the core network," Michael Nicholls, vice president of Starlink Engineering at SpaceX wrote on X. "We apologize for the temporary disruption in our service; we are deeply committed to providing a highly reliable network, and will fully root cause this issue and ensure it does not occur again." There are more than 6 million Starlink customers worldwide, including 2 million in the United States after debuting in 2021. The next SpaceX launch is scheduled for 8:55 p.m. PDT Saturday from Vandenbrug Space Force Station's Pad 4E in California. An additional 24 Starlink satellites are scheduled for deployment.

The impending rocket launch would be the latest Starlink delivery from Southern California since July 18 and the second spaceflight within a week after NASA sent two science satellites into orbit for its TRACERS mission July 23. Billionaire Elon Musk's rocket company has of late bolstered its orbital Starlink deployments from Vandenberg – providing entertainment to space enthusiasts and angering some Santa Barbara County residents opposed to the increased launches. As you make your rocket viewing plans, though, an important disclaimer to keep on mind is this: Launches can be – and often are – scrubbed or delayed due to any number of factors, including poor weather conditions or unexpected issues with spacecraft. While most satellite internet services operate from single geostationary satellites orbiting Earth at about 22,236 miles, Starlink is a constellation of thousands of satellites that operate from a low-Earth orbit, about 341 miles up.
