Dunnes Stores recalls popular €4.99 item as urgent 'do not eat' warning issued
The retailer is asking anyone who bought the affected product to stop eating it immediately and return it to any store for a full refund. No receipt is required.
The recall is for the Dunnes Stores Luxury Apple Tart, priced at €4.99, with the batch code 242 and best before date of June 16, 2025.
While the packaging says apple tart, the affected packs actually contain the Luxury Pear and Almond Pie. This means the affected batch contains undeclared almonds, which puts consumers with nut allergies or intolerances at risk.
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland confirmed the recall today and warned anyone who is allergic to almonds not to eat it.
A spokesperson said: "The above batch of Dunnes Stores Luxury Apple Pie is being recalled as some packs have been mispacked with Dunnes Stores Luxury Pear and Almond Pie. The product contains almonds which are not declared on the label. This may make the batch unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of almonds, and therefore, these consumers should not eat the implicated batch."
Dunnes Stores has apologised for the incident and urged customers not to eat the affected pie.
A spokesperson said: "We apologise that it has been necessary to recall this product and for the inconvenience caused. Customers are advised not to consume this product, instead to return it to a Dunnes Stores store for a full refund. No receipt is required."
Shoppers with any concerns can contact Dunnes Stores customer services on 0818300066 or 01 902 0309.
Almond allergy symptoms can vary from mild to severe and often include skin reactions, digestive troubles and breathing difficulties. In extreme cases, anaphylaxis - a life-threatening reaction - may occur.
Common symptoms to watch out for include hives, itching, swelling, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and difficulty breathing.

Batch of hummus recalled due to the potential presence of Listeria
A batch of hummus sold in Irish supermarkets has been recalled due to the potential presence of Listeria monocytogenes. The Food Safety Authority of Ireland has recalled the batch of Tom and Ollie Traditional Hummus due to the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes. The food safety watchdog said recall notices will be displayed at point-of-sale. No picture of the recalled product is available. The recall was issued for Tom and Ollie Traditional Hummus with a 150g pack size, United Kingdom country of origin, the batch code, VG189 and the use by date, August 8, 2025. The FSAI stressed that there is currently no evidence that this food recall is linked with the listeriosis outbreak related to ready-to-heat meals or the recall of spinach and mixed leaves products. Symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes infection can include mild flu-like symptoms, or gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. In rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications. Some people are more vulnerable to Listeria monocytogenes infections, including pregnant women, babies, and people with weakened immune systems, including the elderly. The incubation period (time between initial infection and first symptoms appearing) is on average three weeks but can range between three and 70 days. Retailers are requested to remove the implicated batch from sale and display recall notices at point-of-sale. Wholesalers/distributors are requested to contact their affected customers and recall the implicated batch and provide a point-of-sale recall notice to their retailer customers. Caterers should not use the implicated batch and consumers are advised not to eat the implicated batch. FSAI recalls specific batch of hummus over the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes
YET ANOTHER FOOD product has been recalled by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) over the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes. A specific batch of 150g packets of Tom & Ollie Traditional Hummus products has been recalled. Anyone who has purchased the product with the batch code VG189 and the use by date 08/08/2025 is asked to return it. Advertisement The public are advised to check their products and are entitled to a full refund . Last month, an 'extensive outbreak' of Listeria monocytogenes resulted in the recall of over 140 ready-made meals produced by Ballymaguire Foods. The meals were produced for a number of major supermarkets in Ireland. Various packages of spinach and mixed leaf products have also been recalled in recent days. The FSAI has stressed that the subsequent recalls are not linked to the outbreak, sparking concerns over what is causing the repeated trend . Medical professionals are currently investigating the death of an adult with confirmed listeriosis, an illness linked to a listeria monocytogenes infection. Nine people have previously confirmed as having the infection. Symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes infection can include mild flu-like symptoms, or gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.
