Iggy Pop on Closing Out ‘Superman' Soundtrack: Hero is 'the Best Friend You Could Have'

James Gunn has a way with a movie soundtrack.
That much became obvious with his 'Awesome Mix' from the Guardians of the Galaxy films, which featured '70s soul jams like Blue Swede's 'Hooked on a Feeling' and Redbone's 'Come and Get Your Love,' and the edgier The Suicide Squad soundtrack, which moved into '80s punk territory with The Jim Carroll Band's 'People Who Died' and 'Hey' by Pixies.

With Superman, he's staying the punk rock course — but brings us into the 21st century with 'Punkrocker,' produced by Swedish dance music outfit Teddybears and sung by arguably the greatest punk rocker of all time, Iggy Pop.
The song underscores the blockbuster's sweetly emotional final scene and continues into the closing credits, capping the well-reviewed and well-attended DC Studios reboot on just the right note of poignant-cool.
Pop, 78, is tickled at playing such a key role in one of the summer's biggest hits.
'I always thought the track had soul,' he tells The Hollywood Reporter from Europe, where he is currently on tour. 'Superman is the best friend you could have.'
The Man of Steel could turn out to be a good friend to Pop in more ways than one. 'Punkrocker' saw significant gains after opening weekend; according to data from Luminate, the song went from 1,572 streams on July 4 to nearly 190,500 on July 12, the day after Superman's opening night.
Another song on the Superman soundtrack, '5 Years Time' — a 2007 folk rock single from the English band Noah and the Whale — had just over 7,300 streams on July 4, but by July 12 had gone up to 85,400, a 1000 percent increase.
Only time will tell if those gains are a sign of more significant boosts to come. 'Hooked on a Feeling' and 'Come and Get Your Love' saw significant resurgences because of their prominent placements in Guardians films. The Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1 went triple-platinum, while Vol. 2 for the second film went platinum.

Why Kadyn Proctor makes his cologne passion his Alabama football mission: 'You can't stink'

ATLANTA − Most SEC media days questions Kadyn Proctor faced were about Alabama football, whether it was the Crimson Tide's planned response for its four-loss 2024 season, the state of the offensive line or Alabama's quarterback battle. But when someone began to ask about Proctor's collection of cologne, the Alabama junior offensive tackle's eyes lit up. His passion came alive, one that has turned into a mission for not only the rest of the Crimson Tide offensive line, but for the rest of the roster. "How I see it is, if you're a big guy, you can't stink," Proctor, who's up to 170 bottle of cologne in his collection, said. "You got to be fresh, man. Because the narrative right now is if you're big, you stink, you smell, you're sweaty. That's not how it goes for me. That's why I be saying flip the narrative." Proctor, wearing Audemars Puguet cologne at SEC media days per SiriusXM, said his collection began in elementary school when his father would put on Proctor so he could "smell good for the ladies." Proctor's fascination has carried over to the rest of the Alabama roster. "I wouldn't say just the offensive line," Proctor said. "It's everybody. Everybody's getting into it now." Wilkin Formby, Alabama's right tackle and Proctor's roommate, has 70-to-80 bottles himself. "(We) feed off each other," Proctor said. Proctor clarified he doesn't have his own brand of cologne, nor does he have a Name, Image and Likeness deal associated with any cologne company, something he isn't counting out. For now, Proctor continues to push fresh smells to the rest of the Alabama roster. "The obsession continues, for sure," Proctor said. Yamal takes iconic Barcelona number 10 shirt

Young Barcelona star Lamine Yamal inherited the club's number 10 shirt, previously worn by all-time great Lionel Messi, on Wednesday. "Our 10," wrote Barca on social media, accompanied by a video featuring Yamal. The 18-year-old winger, often compared to the Argentine superstar who also came through the club's La Masia youth academy, helped the Catalan giants win a domestic treble last season. Yamal has scored 25 goals for the club in over 100 appearances, making his debut in 2023 at the age of 15 wearing the number 41 shirt. After a season wearing the 27, last summer Yamal followed in Messi's footsteps by taking the number 19, which the Argentine wore at the club between 2005 and 2008. Ansu Fati inherited Messi's number 10 shirt in 2021, when now Inter Miami player left Barca for Paris Saint-Germain. Beset by a series of injuries Fati was unable to fulfil his potential at Barca and signed on loan for Monaco earlier in July. Other star names including Diego Maradona, Ronaldinho and Rivaldo have worn the Barcelona number 10 shirt in the past. Yamal made headlines after celebrating his 18th birthday last weekend with a private event involving hired entertainers with dwarfism. Spain's Ministry of Social Rights asked the public prosecutor to investigate the party after a complaint from the Association for People with Achondroplasia and Other Skeletal Dysplasias (ADEE). rbs/ea
