Amazon Prime Day 2025 electronics deals: Top discounts on Apple, Shark and more
Sony is a brand that needs no introduction. And while it may no longer be the striding all-consumer-tech colossus it once was back when it lent its hand to phones, laptops and TVs, when it comes to personal audio, the big S is still winning over the fans. Especially now that said person's audio is more affordable than ever.
In this instance, I speak of the WH-CH720N over-ears that became available much earlier this year. Priced at just under the ton mark on release, savvy ear-users can now pick these up for just £64. No, your eyes do not deceive you.
So, what do you get for this next-to-nothing, cost-of-living-pleasing price? For a start, a relatively minimalist-looking pair of ear-huggers with all the requisite buttons required to play and pause, skip back and forth, adjust volume and answer calls placed neatly on the right earcup. Which sees to the basics. Then you have Bluetooth 5.2 offering both a reliable connection and multi-point to keep your essential gadgets paired up. Effective ANC keeps unwanted racket at bay, while an Ambient option lets you allow some sound in on the off-chance you need to keep an ear out.
Then there's the sound. Featuring a more diminutive set of 30mm drivers, what they may lack in scale is more than made up for by the inclusion of 360 Reality Audio which works to surround you in a nicely balanced bubble of audio that lends your music a welcome feel of space, helping to fend-off the annoying but inevitable issue of listening fatigue.
Light too, at just 192g, they may not be the most comfortable cans I've had clamped to my noggin during the course of these reviews, but for £64, they're more than acceptable.
With the Sony Headphones Connect app available to make minor adjustments to set-up, quality, relatively expense-free ANC is now available for the masses.

Sky's £13 Google Pixel 9a may steal shoppers away from the Pixel 10
Google is set to unveil the new Pixel 10 series at the Made By Google Event in August, but Sky Mobile's deal on the Pixel 9a may be tempting Google is weeks away from unveiling the latest addition to its Pixel smartphone series, but we've found a deal on its latest model that may be too good to pass up. The tech giant is set to showcase the Pixel 10 at its annual Made By Google Event in New York City on August 20, where we're expecting to catch a first glimpse of the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 XL and Pixel 10 Pro Fold. But even as the launch looms, Google's latest smartphone is proving as popular as ever at one particular retailer. Over at Sky Mobile, the Pixel 9a has been highlighted as an 'in-demand' product as shoppers snap up the budget-friendly £13 package. This model first hit the market in April, designed as an affordable version of the standard Pixel 9. But despite its cheaper price, the 9a is packed with premium features, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) functions with Google Gemini and an IP68 dust and water resistance rating. It also boasts a Tensor processor, which Google says is powered by its 'fastest, most efficient chip' ever. Google also says it provides the 'best battery life of any Pixel' with more than 30 hours of runtime. The Pixel 9a comes on a 36-month contract, but customers have the option to upgrade their handset after 24 months if they wish. Shoppers should also note the £13 monthly price only covers the handset and must be taken alongside a Sky data plan. These range from £0 for 100MB through to £20 for unlimited data. Sky isn't the only brand to offer an affordable entry into the Pixel range, with Amazon reducing the phone from £499 to £429 when buying outright. There's also a selection of freebies available when ordering through Currys-backed retailer with select packages coming with Google Buds A Series, Pixel Buds Pro 2 or a Pixel Watch 3. A decent option is iD Mobile's £18.99 per month plan with £49 upfront, which provides 100GB of data and inclusive roaming in 50 destinations. Shoppers who already got their hands on the Pixel 9a have left hundreds of positive reviews on Amazon, with one saying: 'The cheaper affordable Pixel just got better. The perfect size at 6.3' and all the benefits of Pixel in a cheaper package. Great display, bigger battery, good cameras, smooth and responsive. Great phone.' Another says: 'A lot of phone for the money. This has been virtually flawless, it has a solid construction similar to an iPhone and a clean clutter-free OS with no bloatware. One plus is having both a finger print scanner and a Face ID equivalent. Yes, it does have a plastic back, but it feels premium.' Not everyone is sold on the Pixel 9a, as this mixed review says: 'Battery life is good, size is alright but the bezels are quite big. It's a decent price but one issue is the Bluetooth keeps reconnecting randomly which is frustrating as someone that uses Bluetooth earphones all the time.' While another five-star review says: 'The design is clean and feels good in the hand. Performance is fast and smooth, with enough power for daily use and multitasking. The camera is impressive, especially with features like Macro Focus and the 'Add Me' option for group photos. "Battery life is solid and easily lasts all day, and I like that it's made with recycled materials. It's not perfect, but for the price, it's a great Android phone.'

DE&S Deca at MOD Sealand repairs critical aircraft parts
Those operations across Europe now benefit from faster, more cost-effective air system component repairs delivered through a collaboration with DE&S Deca at MOD Sealand. DE&S Deca has established itself as a forward repair hub for US Air Force capabilities in Europe. Components arrive at RAF Mildenhall before travelling to the North Wales facility for expert diagnosis, repair and reconditioning. Read more: Flintshire firm celebrates double success wins at trade exhibition The initiative enables critical components used in C-130 Hercules and KC135 Stratotanker aircraft to be repaired locally rather than shipped back to the United States. The project, named 'Atlantic Eagle', has two pathways. Pathway Atlantic refers to these component repairs and reconditioning of US Air Force aircraft parts, while Eagle relates to test program set (TPS) development including transportability between the UK MOD and US Air Force systems. To date, the collaboration has delivered successful proof-of-concept repairs of Tactical Air Navigation (TACAN) System components and ARC164 radio transmitters. Read more: New tenant set to move into two of Island Green's former retail sites Ian Doughty, acting chief executive of DE&S Deca, said: "The Atlantic project represents a significant shift in military logistics, proving that regional expertise can deliver world-class results while strengthening international defence relationships. By keeping repairs in Europe, the US Air Force maintains higher aircraft availability rates while reducing operational costs." The project involved DE&S Deca colleagues working alongside US personnel, ensuring a collaborative approach in the development of repair capability as part of the transatlantic partnership. DE&S Deca apprentice Jimmy Stanley-Bratley working on the project. Two DE&S Deca apprentices, Jack Vaughn and Jimmy Stanley-Bratley, have been instrumental in the project, demonstrating how plans for the Government's growth agenda can create skilled opportunities in cutting-edge defence technology. Their work on complex radio system components and control units showcases the high-calibre expertise of colleagues working at the MOD site in Flintshire. Read more: New leaseholders step into bold new chapter after 16-months managing vibrant pub Jimmy Stanley-Bratley, DE&S Deca apprentice working on the project, said: "As a third-year apprentice recently joining the team, I was fortunate to be put on the Atlantic Eagle project. The opportunity has been fantastic and being trained up on the TACANs has helped develop my skillset. Meeting the US team was a great experience, especially getting to tap into their expertise and knowledge. It's great to be part of helping to further the connection between the UK MOD and US Department of Defense." Earlier this year, a US Air Force Sustainment Centre delegation made a trip to DE&S Deca at MOD Sealand to inspect the repaired components firsthand during a positive technical observation visit which confirmed DE&S Deca as a regional repair capability. Read more: New gastro pub and restaurant opens its doors in Wrexham Tiffany Williams, Atlantic Eagle action officer for the US Air Force Sustainment Center said: "Earlier this year, the US Air Force Sustainment Center conducted a site visit to DE&S Deca to assess repair capabilities for specific subassemblies to support the ongoing pilot program. By approving DE&S Deca's capability to conduct repairs at the subassembly level it now allows for repairs for pilot components to be accomplished at DE&S Deca without the need for AFSC support." Read more: Readers crown 'Best Barbers 2025' as title awarded to business in Wrexham This innovative approach to Defence partnerships demonstrates how UK expertise supports allied operations, while creating valuable skills development opportunities for British workers in strategic industries. DE&S Deca is now working with the AFSC to deliver its Global Enterprise Network for Universal Sustainment (GENUS) Forward Air Logistics Complex Operational Node (Falcon) in Europe. GENUS FALCON will subsume Atlantic activity, using lessons identified to expedite its implementation and plans to see DE&S Deca established as a regional repair hub for component repair in Europe for the US, and NATO allies and Defence partners.

Millions of PS5 fans receive new console button that instantly saves them money – but think twice before switching it on
Switch is linked to PlayStation's drive for Net Zero by 2040 POWER UP Millions of PS5 fans receive new console button that instantly saves them money – but think twice before switching it on Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) 2 MILLIONS of PS5 fans are to receive a mysterious new console button that instantly saves them money – but there's a catch. Sony is introducing the setting, which is rolling out in the next PS5 System Beta, in a soft launch. 2 Sony bosses revealed the new option in a blog post Credit: Getty Power Saver, a new PlayStation 5 game setting will reduce your console's overall power consumption – but users are being warned it will also "scale back performance" of supported games. Sony bosses revealed the new option on their website this week. However, it won't actually be available even in beta, at least publicly. Games magazine IGN said the announcement looks to be "more of an acknowledgment that the feature is being worked on, then, ahead of it being spotted by users". In a blog post, PlayStation's VP of Product Management Shuzo Kikuchi said he was delighted to announce the launch. "With this update, you may notice a new option in your settings menu called Power Saver," he said. "While this feature won't be available during the beta phase, once it officially launches, supported PS5 games will scale back performance and will allow your PS5 to reduce its power consumption when the feature is enabled optionally by gamers. "If not enabled, or if games do not support the feature, the performance will not be scaled back and power consumption will not be reduced." Sony did not release any further details of Power Saver other than to also confirm that Power Saver will not be compatible with the console's VR mode That will affect any customer who has bought a PlayStation VR2 headset. Sony said more details on which games will support Power Saver, and how game performance will be degraded should you choose to turn it on, will be announced in the future. "We'll share more details on this new option as we get closer to launch," Kikuchi concluded, "including supported PS5 games and estimated impact, so stay tuned!" Get an inside look at the new PS5 30th anniversary edition Why is Sony doing this? In its blog post, the company highlighted its "Road to Zero" environmental plan that includes a target for the company to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions to net-zero by 2040. The post added:"At [Sony Interactive Entertainment], we are committed to Sony's 'Road to Zero' environmental plan, launched in 2010, which includes achieving net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2040. " We are always exploring how we can contribute to these goals through our products and services." But the option has also been linked to the continuing rumours that Sony is once again planning a PlayStation handheld device. "The ability for Sony to get some of its PS5 games running at a lower spec on its main home console would be a useful test for a more lightweight handheld," IGN reported. "Whatever the reason, and whether Sony end up launching a PlayStation handheld or not, it's going to be fascinating to compare the performance of PS5 games running with Power Saver enabled, especially with Xbox Series X, and the already lower-power Xbox Series S."
