Big Pharma booms despite Trump tariff headache
Britain's two biggest drug makers are expected to reveal a profit surge this week as demand booms despite a looming threat of tariffs from the US. GSK, led by Emma Walmsley, is expected to report profit of £4.4 billion for the first half of this year on Wednesday, up from £2.9 billion the previous year, while sales are expected to inch up to £15.3 billion from £15.2 billion in 2024. AstraZeneca, the largest company on the London Stock Exchange, is forecast to report a half-year profit of £5 billion, which is £1.1 billion more than the year before, with sales expected to have increased 8 per cent to £20.6 billion. The sector is under pressure due to the threat of tariffs from the US, a critical market for both companies. President Donald Trump this month threatened to slap a 200 per cent levy on drug imports as part of an escalation of his trade war. His threats have pushed many firms to begin moving factories to – and making larger investments in – the US to protect themselves from retaliation. Last week, AstraZeneca announced plans to invest £37 billion in the US, which accounts for 42 per cent of its sales. The move has also fuelled fears it could switch its London stock market listing to the US, which would be a hit to the City. GSK suffered a blow in the US last week when American regulators recommended against approving the relaunch of its key blood cancer drug Blenrep, which had been pulled from the country in 2022 due to concerns about its side-effects.

Three great summer perfumes at all price points – one is the perfect subtle scent for everyday
A QUICK spritz of the right perfume can totally transform your mood – and summer scents are certainly some of the most addictive. Here are three of my favourites . . . BUDGET M&S Discover Salty Skin Eau de Toilette, £10 for 100ml, The notes of this perfume read like a list of all my favourite scents; tart bergamot, mandarin and lemon, lightly floral orange blossom and jasmine, comforting musk and amber. It reminds me of the smell when you open the balcony door of your air-conditioned hotel room to be hit with the warm, thick air outside that's holding the smell of sun-tan lotion and salty sea air. It's the perfect subtle scent for everyday that will still feel special every time you spray it, and given the price, you'd be hard pressed to find a better value fragrance. I can't imagine there's a single person who won't love it. MID-RANGE Roger & Gallet Vanille Soleil Fragrant Water, £39 for 100ml, Fragrance expert Alice du Parq aptly described this as the scent equivalent of a Mr Whippy ice cream topped with Maldon sea salt flakes. I can't think of a better way to convey the moreish, elevated vanilla perfume that's equally sweet and savoury – like all the best snacks. It's not at all sickly, despite the powdery notes of jasmine and tonka bean. It's the perfect 'old money' scent, that doesn't scream in your face or leave a trail behind you when you leave a room, but when people get close, it smells sophisticated and clean. I get stopped in the street by people asking where my perfume's from - it's a dupe of a designer scent & saves me £135 LUXURY Maison Margiela Never Ending Summer Eau de Toilette, £62 for 30ml, This perfume is an Aperol Spritz in a scent. It's fizzy, bright and packed with juicy bitter orange, rich, hearty cedarwood, sharp pepper and spicy cardamom, that make it the perfect late night summer scent cocktail to cut through humid climes. It's one of the few truly unisex holiday inspired scents on the market – with no hint of sun cream-style coconut that can quickly become extremely girly. It's grown up elegance, that's guaranteed to bring in compliments. Michelle Heaton, 45, flaunts her incredible body in strapless black bikini as she enjoys family day out
Michelle Heaton showed off her incredible figure as she soaked up the sun in a sleek black bikini, proving 45 really is the new 25. The Liberty X singer looked sensational on Saturday as she relaxed with a glass of non-alcoholic Nosecco following a day of fun in the sun with her family. Her toned abs and bronzed skin stole the show as she posed poolside, flashing a confident smile. Michelle, who has been open about her past battles with addiction, has turned her life around and now proudly embraces sobriety. She toasted to her healthy lifestyle with a chilled glass of the fizz alternative, showing fans that glam doesn't need booze. Michelle captioned the picture: 'Started of the day with double kayaking on the lake. We drove the #bude beach for lunch & ice cream then came back to where the kids and Hugh went paddle boarding. 'And before dinner we watched the sun setting from our private jacuzzi on our wrap around deck ❤️' The mum-of-two's enviable figure didn't go unnoticed, with fans flooding her comment section to praise her for looking better than ever. They gushed: 'Fantastic photos, looks like an amazing place xx' 'Well done so incredibly much on your sobriety, it's hard I totally get it! You rock!!' 'What you have done Michelle takes strength. You should be so proud. Your family is lovely. X' Earlier in the day, Michelle enjoyed a wholesome outing kayaking with her husband Hugh and their children, Faith, 13, and AJ, 10, before winding down at their private jacuzzi. Her strapless black two-piece featured flattering ruffles and high-cut bottoms that highlighted her gym-honed curves. Michelle has credited clean living and regular workouts for her transformation. Her fun-filled family holiday comes after Michelle opened up on how she nearly lost her husband during her battle with alcoholism as she reflected on 'burning bridges'. The mother-of-two has been sober for four years after being hospitalised in 2021 during her battle with drink and drugs. And while Michelle and Hugh are now more loved-up than ever, she admitted that their relationship wasn't always smooth sailing due to her substance issues. In an interview with OK! Magazine last year, she explained that at the height of her addiction she would continually tell the businessman to leave her and would often push him away. When asked if her addiction impacted her relationship with her husband, Michelle said: 'Massively - my husband, thank God, never walked out. 'He knew I was in there somewhere, he was just waiting for me to find myself again. I've burnt bridges with friends – they couldn't bear to see me self-destruct. 'When you're an alcoholic, you push people away because you feel like you don't deserve love.' Michelle explained that they now communicate very openly about her previous issues and have 'answered a lot of questions'. During the four years of her addiction Hugh - who she married in 2010 - has to disassociate from her behaviour in a bid to 'stay healthy for their family'. Dubbing him 'Mr Perfect', the songstress said she has a 'very good man' and saved her life but his messy behaviour at home does drive her crazy. At the height of her battle, the singer drank two bottles of wine and a bottle of vodka 'virtually every day since 2018', when an intervention led by Katie Price resulted in her checking herself into rehab.
