Jasmine Paolini 2-6, 2-1 Anastasija Sevastova*
There could be an upset on the way on No. 2 Court.
Jasmine Paolini, last year's beaten finalist, has lost the opening set of her first round match against Anastasija Sevastova.
The second set is on serve but Paolini has a lot of work to do against her veteran Latvian opponent, who has never been beyond the third round at Wimbledon but did reach the semi-final stage at Flushing Meadows back in 2018. Getty Images
Emma Raducanu 6-3, 2-1* Mimi Xu
On No.1 Court there's a battle of the British home hopefuls.
Former U.S. Open champion Emma Raducanu took the first set against 17-year-old Mimi Xu and was an early break of serve up in the second — only for the teenager to immediately hit back.
Raducanu, 22, is attempting to reach the second round of The Championships for the fourth time in her career.
Carlos Alcaraz, speaking on Centre Court after his win, hailed his opponent's performance.
💬 He said: 'First of all, to be honest, I don't know why it's his last Wimbledon. His level is so high, he can play four more years! It was such a great match.
'He's a great player, his whole career, once again you guys saw it today. A little bit sad it's his last Wimbledon, but happy to share the court with him and we are going to enjoy it.
'Playing the first match at Centre Court is never easy, I've been practicing pretty well but Wimbledon is different. I just tried to play my best, but I can be better. I have to improve in the next round.'
When discussing his next opponent, Brit Oliver Tarvet, 21, he added: 'It's not going to be personal! I saw his name when he qualified for the first time, he's playing in college right now.
'He plays great tennis on grass so I will have to be focused on that and put my best tennis into the match. Obviously let's keep enjoying being at Wimbledon.' Getty Images
Fognini throws his trainers into the crowd to cheers.
He gave the two-time defending champion and one of the tournament favorites a hell of a match.
Really impressive from the unseeded veteran. Getty Images
Very sporting from Carlos Alcaraz.
He gives Fognini a long hug at the net to salute the Italian, who at 38 years old is playing in his final Wimbledon match.
What a match to go out, eh?
Alcaraz just stands and applauds as Centre Court rises to its collective feet to give Fognini a deserved ovation. Getty Images

Fabio Fognini nets and Carlos Alcaraz is through!
They sportingly embrace at the net.
Carlos Alcaraz 7-5, 6-7(5), 7-5, 2-6, 5-1* Fabio Fognini
Booming serve, 15-0. A filthy drop shot, Fognini doesn't even run for it. Not sure he could have made the fourth bounce, such was the spin and trajectory of that knifing slice. 30-0.
Fognini then sends a ripping forehand return down the line, gorgeous stroke, and he does a slight bow for the Centre Court crowd, smiling slightly. Fognini rushes to the net, forcing Alcaraz into the cross-court forehand, netted for 30-all.
Fognini return long and that's match point Alcaraz...

Transfer news, rumors: Madueke to Arsenal; Gunners transfer policy revealed
The latest transfer news is focusing heavily on Arsenal, as the Gunners try and clear the final hurdle to win the Premier League after three-straight second-place finishes. MORE — List of Premier League confirmed ins and outs for summer 2025 Advertisement Below we take a look at the latest transfer news surrounding them. Madueke lined up by Arsenal Reports from both Fabrizio Romano and Sky in Germany state that Arsenal are interested in signing Chelsea and England winger Noni Madueke. With Chelsea about to add Joao Pedro and already signing Liam Delap this summer and Estevao Willian to join imminently, their forward options continue to swell. And Madueke could be the odd player out. He hasn't featured much during the Club World Cup and per the report from Sky in Germany Arsenal have made an offer to the player and "talks have started" over a move. Madueke, 23, would be the perfect fit for Arsenal on the left flank and he had a really good 2024-25 season for Chelsea. He is now a regular in the England team and he would be an upgrade on both Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard on Arsenal's left flank. The final piece of the jigsaw for him is to become more clinical but he's improving in that area and this would be a very smart addition from the Gunners. Arsenal's transfer strategy for the summer revealed A report from David Ornstein says that Arsenal want to sign a left winger, striker and Eberechi Eze this summer, as Mikel Arteta looks to significantly upgrade his attack. When you factor in that Arsenal are expected to sign Kepa, Christian Norgaard, Martin Zubimendi and Mosquera too, their squad will be a whole lot stronger this upcoming season. The left winger could be Madueke, Benjamin Sesko or Rodrygo, with the forward looking more likely to be Viktor Gyokeres as he continues to push for a move away from Sporting Lisbon. With Liverpool already making huge investments in world-class players, Man City spending big and Chelsea continuing to strengthen too, it seems like Arsenal are ready to go big to not only keep up with but overtake their rivals this summer.

Caoimhe O'Neill/The Athletic Not long ago, those who had stayed late on No. 1 Court believed they were in for a treat. Not only was the roof on and the air inside cool but this had been one of the matches of day one at the Championships. United States of America favorite Taylor Fritz was trying to take the match against unseeded Frenchman, Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, into a fifth set. Despite a lot of love for both players, Perricard had the crowd with him in big moments. He led 5-1 in the tiebreak as the players changed ends, but Fritz showed why he's the No. 5 seed and pulled it all the way back to take the tiebreak and with it the fourth set. But then... Caoimhe O'Neill/The Athletic Check out the food and drink on offer at the Tea Lawn, just inside the Centre Court complex. Fancy. Caoimhe O'Neill/The Athletic This is what I'm calling the fancy entrance to Centre Court. Throughout the day visitors stop here to take photos. And you can see why. Look at the ivy-covered walls and colourful planters. It all looks and feels quintessentially British and as a lot of tennis fans have told me today, from England and elsewhere, this is why they make this sporting pilgrimage. There's just something about Wimbledon. Getty Images Comeback on? Taylor Fritz has just won the third set against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, 6-4. He still trails though and will need to win the next two to progress. Namely, Taylor Fritz (5) vs. Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard on No. 1 Court, and Alexander Zverev (3) vs. Arthur Rinderknech on Centre Court. Zverev leads 4-3 on serve in the first set. Getty Images Taylor Fritz (5), two sets down against the unseeded Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, is at least making some headway in the third set. He leads by a break at 3-2 up and is serving to make it 4-2. The American has his fifth set point at 7-6 but Mpetshi Perricard with a big shot at serve plus one to make it 7-7 before showing off the deftness of his drop shot to make it 8-7. Now 8-8! A brilliant inside-in forehand down the line sees Fritz dive full-length to keep it in, and he does, meaning the Frenchman's next shot to his left is beyond his desperate stumble. Nasty scrape on Fritz's knee for his troubles, too. 9-8... and Mpetshi Perricard takes the second set too! 7-6(8), after he won the first 7-6(6). If fifth seed Fritz is to progress, he will need to go the distance and do it in five sets. Can the American avoid going two sets down? Let's find out... Getty Images Katie Boulter has done it! She's shocked the ninth seed Paula Badosa on Centre Court! What a way to start the tournament for the Brit, 28, from Leicester. Her partner Alex de Minaur plays Roberto Carballés Baena in the first round at 11am BST tomorrow. British hope Katie Boulter is two points from the match against ninth seed and favorite Paula Badosa. Into the decider, Boulter won the first set 6-2 before losing the second 3-6. Now she leads 5-4 and is up 30-0. Three match points at 40-0... Max Mathews For any latecomers who can't be bothered with the walk from Wimbledon to the train station in the heat... Ouch, Taylor... The extremely tall Frenchman Mpetshi Perricard takes the first set 7-6(6). A really tough first-round draw for Fritz and he is struggling so far. Taylor Fritz (5) and the unseeded Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard are locked at 6-6 in the first set. Into a tiebreak we go. Caoimhe O'Neill/The Athletic I am quickly realising the best thing about being at Wimbledon is wandering around and just following the noise or the crowd. Court 18 was absolutely packed out this evening as four-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka closed out a two sets to love win (6-4, 7-6) over Australia's Talia Gibson. It is one of the courts where nearby neighbours get to view the tennis for free from their windows. A perk of living in the neighbourhood.
