The S&P/TSX composite index was up 0.1% at 26,790.18 points, surpassing Tuesday's record intraday high of 26,780.19.

Healthcare stocks led the sectoral gains with a 1.7% rise. Bausch Health Companies, the parent company of contact lens maker Bausch + Lomb, rose 3.1%.
On the flip side, mining shares dropped 2.8%, tracking gold that fell to a near one-month low. Gold miners were among the top losers with Lundin Gold falling 7% to the bottom of the main index. Kinross Gold lost 5.7%.
Economic data on Friday showed Canada's economy contracted in April on a monthly basis as sectors exposed to tariffs negated a boost from services.

GIFT Nifty: GIFT Nifty July 2025 futures were trading 2 points higher in early trade, suggesting a positive opening for the Nifty 50. Institutional Flows: Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth 1,970.14 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers to the tune of Rs 771.08 crore in the Indian equity market on 1 July 2025, provisional data showed. According to NSDL data, FPIs have bought shares worth Rs 45.87 crore in the secondary market during July 2025. This follows their purchase of shares worth Rs 8466.77 crore in June 2024. Adani Enterprises shares in focus after Adani Defence acquires 85% stake in MRO firm Air Works
Shares of Adani Enterprises are likely to be in focus on Wednesday after the company announced the completion of its acquisition of an 85.1% stake in Air Works India (Engineering) Pvt. Ltd (AWIEPL). The acquisition was made through its wholly owned subsidiary, Adani Defence Systems and Technologies Limited (ADSTL), for a total consideration of Rs 400 crore. ADVERTISEMENT The all-cash deal, initially announced on 23 December 2024, marks Adani Group's entry into the aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) segment, as it looks to strengthen its presence in aviation services. Founded in 1951 and based in Gurugram, Air Works is India's largest privately-owned MRO company. It provides services to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), aircraft owners, lessors, and commercial airlines, both in India and overseas. Air Works also operates in the defence sector. In 2022, the company partnered with Boeing to carry out maintenance checks on three P-8I maritime patrol and anti-submarine warfare aircraft used by the Indian Navy.
