John Deere Classic 2025 cutline tracker at TPC Deere Run: Get live updates all day Friday

Yahoo04-07-2025
As the 2025 John Deere Classic heads to its second 18 holes, some of the focus on the second round will be the cut line, and more specifically, who's in good shape to play the weekend and who's in trouble of not cashing a paycheck.
Doug Ghim is at 9 under after a first-round 62 and he's leading after one round. Austin Eckroad and Max Homa fired 63s and they're a shot back. Others giving chase include Sam Stevens, Justin Lower and Michael Kim.

What is the cut rule for the 2025 John Deere Classic?
Like the rest of the PGA Tour events, the John Deere has a cut to the low 65 golfers and ties after 36 holes. The tournament started with 156 golfers. A year ago, the cut came in at 5 under. There's a lot of golf to go but after 18 holes, there were 84 golfers at 2 under after 18 holes. Datagolf, as of Thursday, gives 4 under a 39 percent chance to be the cutline come Friday evening.
Which golfers have work to do Friday to make the cut?
Local favorite Zach Johnson (2 under) as well as Luke Clanton (1 under), Kevin Kisner (even), amateur Jackson Koivun (even), Tom Kim (1 over), Lucas Glover (1 over) and Jason Day (3 over) are some names to monitor throughout the day Friday.

Nathan Lukes' 3-run homer helps the Blue Jays avoid a sweep with a 9-8 win over the Orioles

BALTIMORE (AP) — Nathan Lukes capped Toronto's five-run seventh inning with a three-run homer, and the Blue Jays held on for a 9-8 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday to avoid a four-game sweep. Toronto's AL East lead was down to four games after dropping the first three of this series against the last-place Orioles. And the Blue Jays fell behind 3-0 early in the finale before rallying. Bo Bichette delivered a two-run single off Yennier Cano (1-6) to put Toronto ahead 6-5 in the seventh. Three batters later, Lukes came up as a pinch-hitter and connected off Cano. The Orioles answered with three runs in the bottom of the seventh, but with the bases loaded and one out, Braydon Fisher came on and struck out Cedric Mullins and pinch-hitter Ramon Laureano to preserve a one-run lead. Seranthony Domínguez pitched a scoreless eighth one day after being traded from the Orioles to Toronto. Then Jeff Hoffman finished for his 25th save in 29 chances. Myles Straw also homered for Toronto, and Ryan O'Hearn and Jordan Westburg went deep for the Orioles. Mason Fluharty (4-2) got the win in relief. Mullins, playing perhaps his final home game for the Orioles with the trade deadline coming up Thursday, reached well over the wall in center field to rob Ali Sanchez of a two-run homer in the sixth. At the time, that kept the Orioles up 5-4. Baltimore's Jackson Holliday was retired in the eighth when his dribbler started foul, then kicked back into fair territory while he remained at the plate. First baseman Ernie Clement fielded it for an easy unassisted putout. Key moment Fisher got Mullins swinging, then he got the call on a borderline pitch around the outside corner on a 3-2 delivery to Laureano that ended the seventh. Key stat Straw and Joey Loperfido had three hits apiece for Toronto. Up next Both teams are off Thursday. Toronto hosts Kansas City on Friday, when the Orioles face the Cubs in Chicago. ___ AP MLB: Noah Trister, The Associated Press

Liberty star Breanna Stewart out indefinitely with a bone bruise in her knee

New York Liberty star Breanna Stewart will be sidelined indefinitely with a bone bruise in her right knee, coach Sandy Brondello confirmed on Wednesday. While the specifics of her injury are now known, it's unclear how long she'll be sidelined. Brondello did not have a timeline for her return, and Stewart was not available for their matchup with the Minnesota Lynx on Wednesday night. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] "We want to be smart with it," Brondello said before the game, via ESPN "If we can get her back at the end of August, I think that's great. It's big picture ... so when she's ready. But keep it fresh for the playoffs. I know she'll be back before then. How early she gets back before the end of the [regular] season, I don't know.' Stewart first went down in the opening minutes of their matchup with the Los Angeles Sparks on Saturday. Stewart awkwardly pulled up and started walking around with the apparent non-contact injury. She made an immediate call to come out of the game, and was ruled out at halftime. She hasn't played since. For a long time, the nature of Stewart's injury was unclear. Initial imaging revealed the absence of a significant injury, which was a good sign. But Brondello said Monday that they didn't actually know what part of Stewart's leg was hurt. While there still isn't a timetable for her return, at least knowing the nature of the injury is a good step in that direction. Stewart has averaged 18.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per game this season. The two-time league MVP hadn't missed a single game all year before this injury, either. The Liberty entered Wednesday's game at the Target Center with a 17-8 record, which is the second-best in the league behind the Lynx. They've lost two straight, though, and are trying to avoid what will be their longest losing streak of the season with a loss on Wednesday night.
