Publix Commits to Multiyear Project for Coral Reef Restoration
"At Publix, we remain committed to supporting efforts that aid in protecting, conserving and restoring coral reefs around Florida," said Publix Director of Communications Maria Brous. "We're proud to fund this multiyear effort through NPF and continue looking for meaningful ways to provide additional support throughout our operating area."
The company's donation will continue to support various coral reef restoration projects, including
transplanting nursery-grown corals
restoring storm-damaged corals
treating corals affected by diseases
completing coral rescues in response to marine heat waves and mass bleaching events
removing invasive species to maintain a healthy reef fish population
providing in-water protection for corals
growing larvae of protected coral species and
restoring reef habitat through the removal of submerged marine debris.
Biscayne National Park
America's largest marine park, Biscayne National Park, can be found south of Miami, and a large portion of the Florida Reef Tract is located within the park's boundaries. In recent years, the area has been affected by heat waves, hurricanes and the ongoing outbreak of Stony Coral Tissue Loss Disease, a highly lethal disease that affects coral and can spread quickly between reefs.
Dry Tortugas National Park
Dry Tortugas National Park is a 100-square-mile park 70 miles west of Key West, Florida, and includes seven islands. This remote park is home to a variety of unique coral reefs and marine life and is only accessible by boat or seaplane. In fact, only 1% of Dry Tortugas National Park is dry ground. In recent years, Dry Tortugas National Park has been affected by Stony Coral Tissue Loss Disease.

Blue Origin and five other companies study how orbital transfer vehicles can aid NASA
An artist's conception shows the Blue Ring space platform in orbit. (Blue Origin Illustration) Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin space venture is among six companies that will be producing studies for NASA looking at low-cost ways to use orbital transfer vehicles to deliver spacecraft to hard-to-reach orbits for the space agency. The awards will support nine studies in all, with a maximum total value of about $1.4 million, NASA said today. 'With the increasing maturity of commercial space delivery capabilities, we're asking companies to demonstrate how they can meet NASA's need for multi-spacecraft and multi-orbit delivery to difficult-to-reach orbits beyond current launch service offerings,' Joe Dant, orbital transfer vehicle strategic initiative owner for the Launch Services Program at NASA's Kennedy Space Center, said in a news release. 'This will increase unique science capability and lower the agency's overall mission costs.' Blue Origin will conduct two studies — one that focuses on potential NASA applications for its Blue Ring multi-mission space mobility platform, and another that focuses on how the upper stage of its New Glenn rocket could be used. The first New Glenn launch sent a test payload for the Blue Ring program into orbit in January. The second New Glenn launch is due to put twin orbiters on a path to Mars for NASA's ESCAPADE mission later this year. Blue Origin's first full-scale Blue Ring spacecraft is currently scheduled for launch in 2026, with Scout Space's Owl space domain sensors among the payloads. The other companies involved in NASA's studies are: Texas-based Arrow Science and Technology , which will partner with Quantum Space to study applications for Quantum's Ranger spacecraft. , which will partner with Quantum Space to study applications for Quantum's Ranger spacecraft. Miami-Dade mayor pushes back on Florida DOGE review, calls it "staged political theater"
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava responded to the Florida Department of Government Efficiency's (DOGE) plan to scrutinize the county's finances, framing the review as politically motivated and unnecessary. "We are aware that Governor DeSantis's Florida Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has initiated a review of Miami-Dade County's finances," Levine Cava said in a statement. "Since I took office as mayor, I've governed with strong fiscal accountability and ensured Miami-Dade operates under one of the most transparent and well-governed local systems in the nation." DOGE's review is part of a broader initiative examining financial operations in counties across the state, including Broward. In Miami-Dade, the agency has requested documents related to spending on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives and environmental programs targeting greenhouse gas reduction. Levine Cava defended her administration's record, citing years of clean external audits, open budgeting processes and real-time public access to financial data. "Our county has undergone regular external audits, with findings made public and easily accessible to residents," she said. "We offer the public real-time financial information through the online checkbook portal." The mayor also pointed to cost-saving measures already enacted and a reduction in the county tax rate to the lowest combined level since 1982. "We hold ourselves to the highest standards of transparency and accountability," Levine Cava stated. "Miami-Dade stands ready to cooperate—but to the extent that the review adds value without disrupting local governance. If DOGE requires clarification on budget line items we have already clearly documented, we will help. But there is no need for duplication, nor for politically driven investigations that could divert staff time away from critical services." She concluded: "Our priorities remain focused on delivering for residents: investing in infrastructure, public safety, affordable housing, and economic opportunity—not playing into staged political theater." Commissioner Roberto Gonzalez, who recently traveled to Tallahassee to meet with DOGE officials, said his concerns are not political and accused the administration of budgetary shortcomings. "I think that when you have a $400 million deficit in a county that the budget is $12.7 billion, there is clearly some sort of mismanagement," Gonzalez said. Gonzalez has pointed to missing line-item expenses and raised concerns about potential misuse of funds within departments. The mayor's proposed budget includes cuts to charitable grants, senior services and food pantry funding, along with a proposed increase in transit fares—all of which were expected to be discussed at a public hearing Monday night. As the county faces a projected $400 million deficit, the DOGE review has become a flashpoint between state oversight and local control—with transparency, accountability, and political intent at the heart of the debate.

Dave Ramsey Caller Bought A $6,000 Warranty For An $18,000 Used Car, But It Doesn't Even Cover The Repairs—'That Is Insane'
A caller on a recent episode of 'The Ramsey Show' shared a financial mess that stunned co-hosts John Delony and George Kamel. Ami from Tampa, Florida, financed a used car earlier this year, but things quickly went off the rails. Extended Warranty Nightmare 'I financed a used car and I got an extended warranty with it,' Ami explained. 'Recently, the engine blew up, and now I have no car and am stuck with this $30,000 loan.' The car was worth about $18,000, but with a $6,000 extended warranty and other fees, her total loan ended up at $30,000. Despite the warranty, the mechanic is refusing to fix the engine unless she pays out of pocket for a teardown first. The warranty company may reimburse her later, but there's no guarantee. Don't Miss: The same firms that backed Uber, Venmo and eBay are investing in this pre-IPO company disrupting a $1.8T market — Accredited Investors: Grab Pre-IPO Shares of the AI Company Powering Hasbro, Sephora & MGM— Delony was floored. 'You paid $6,000 for a warranty against an $18,000 car?' he asked. 'At that ratio, that would be like buying a warranty for a $500,000 house that costs $175,000. You must have bought the Cadillac Lexus Atomic Diamond Platinum warranty.' Kamel was equally shocked. 'That is insane,' he said. 'I've never heard where you have to pay, and then maybe the warranty company will reimburse you later.' Ami admitted she had been emailing the warranty company, but hadn't gotten any results. Delony pushed back: 'I'm not messaging anything. It would be my part-time job. Whenever I'm not working my full-time job, I'm working on this and fighting it. I'm showing up in person every day until they know me by name.' Trending: 'Scrolling To UBI' — Deloitte's #1 fastest-growing software company allows users to earn money on their phones. You can Debt Pile-Up And Family Struggles On top of the $30,000 car loan, Ami has another car loan for $13,000—a car she gave to her unemployed mother. She also has an $8,000 personal loan and several credit cards. Delony and Kamel urged her to consider taking back the car from her mom. 'At least you're less in debt on that one,' Kamel said. 'Mom needs to figure it out.' When asked how she planned to get around, Ami said she had been borrowing a customer courtesy vehicle from the aircraft maintenance shop where she works. Kamel encouraged her to ask coworkers for help navigating the mechanic situation. 'They've got to know what an engine looks like,' he said.A Wake-Up Call 'You're getting hosed at every dealership you go to,' Kamel said bluntly. Their advice was that she should pursue a full refund on the extended warranty, consider fixing the broken car just enough to sell it, and get serious about overhauling her finances. 'You're going to have to make a lot of hard choices and fight really hard, probably for the next few months,' Kamel said.
