New sauna & cold plunge opens in bustling Perth suburb

Perth Now14-07-2025
There is a new sauna & cold plunge in Perth and it's redefining the wellness and hospitality experience.
Melt Sauna & Cold Plunge recently opened in Subiaco with a single-minded determination to serve the community's mental, physical and social well-being.
According to founder Scott Taylor, Melt was opened with the clear understanding that wellness is the new hospitality and that social wellness is now as habitual as meeting friends at the pub.
'We designed Melt to be a place for you, whether individually, with a friend or a small group, created specifically for one thing: 30 to 60 minutes of social recovery,' explains founder Scott Taylor.
While Melt's two Finnish saunas can fit up to 20 people, you'll never find more than eight per sauna, to ensure a more comfortable experience.
Its saunas are divided into 'more chat' for those wanting to socialise and 'less chat' for anyone preferring a more solitary sauna experience.
The custom-built cold plunge pool is a refreshing 8.5 degrees – providing all the perks of the colder temps while remaining more 'palatable' for a social interaction. Melt Sauna & Cold Plunge. Credit: Supplied
But Melt is not your typical sauna and cold plunge.
'Hospitality is in our DNA at Melt,' explains founder Scott Taylor.
That's why you'll find complimentary Micrology coffee on tap - with all the milk options - alongside still and sparkling water and XO herbal teas.
Melt also offers unique experiences, such as Sunday Sessions every weekend from 8 am to 10 am, where live DJs curate the soundtrack for your sauna and cold plunge.

Demonstrating Melt's strong community focus, Scott also teamed up with Beyond Blue to offer Melt at Dawn, a free session available from 5 am to 6 am daily.
As Scott explains, 'We didn't want anyone's financial situation to be a barrier to enjoying the healing benefits of sauna and cold plunge.'
The benefits of sauna and cold plunge are well documented. The sauna's heat promotes deep relaxation, improved circulation and detoxification.
The cold plunge helps reduce inflammation, activates the parasympathetic nervous system, and aids in muscle recovery.
Moving between the two (known as contrast therapy) boosts the immune system, improves skin tone and creates a deep sense of well-being.
It also cultivates what the Finnish call Sisu, which Scott describes as an almost spiritual determination and grit to push past perceived limits and persevere with quiet courage. Melt Sauna & Cold Plunge. Credit: Supplied
Later this year, the Melt team will expand their wellness services to include classes.
Expect breathwork, yoga, mat Pilates, meditation, and sound healing to complement sauna and cold plunge sessions.
As Scott explains, 'We're going to have Morgan Freeman's AI voice leading one of the breathwork classes, which I thought was very fun.'
Melt Sauna & Cold Plunge is located at 8/1 Forrest St, Subiaco WA 6008.

Geelong coach Chris Scott set to sign contract extension until end of 2029

Chris Scott is set to rule himself out of becoming the inaugural Tasmanian coach and sign a contract extension at Geelong. The two-time premiership coach is on the verge of inking a new deal through to the end of 2029, according to Channel 7's Caroline Wilson. Scott was already contracted until the end of next season, but will soon sign the blockbuster extension. He is not the only big name to recommit to the club with Wilson also reporting CEO Steve Hocking also extending until the end of 2029. 'They've both attracted interest elsewhere, but we can report tonight that the Geelong board have just extended Steve Hocking's contract until the end of 2029,' Wilson said on The Agenda Setters. 'So that's a four-year new contract for the former AFL football boss who went back to Geelong and was with Chris Scott for that flag a couple of years ago. 'Chris Scott has not yet made an announcement, nor do I think it's been signed, but he will extend his deal, which currently runs to the end of next year, also to the end of 2029.' Wilson also reported Scott will get a big pay rise next year in the line with the expanded soft cap rules. 'He'll also get a pay rise next year, even though he's contracted because, of course, the soft cap, as we know, has been expanded,' she continued. 'So this is already one of the greatest partnerships in football at what is now looming as probably the most stable footy club.' Scott, who has won the most games as coach this century, was courted by Tasmania to be the Devils' inaugural coach. He spoke with CEO Brendan Gale and met with board member Alastair Lynch. But he will continue his stint as Geelong coach for a record-extending 19th season if he remains in charge for 2029. Already the record-holder for most games coached at Geelong, Scott was delivered the club two premierships (2011 and 2022). He has the Cats well-placed for another tilt this year as they sit in fourth place with four rounds left in the season. With Scott now off Tasmania's list, Wilson believes former Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley is now their No.1 target. The Magpies great has already publicly declared his interest in becoming the inaugural coach. Tasmania have been slated to enter the AFL in 2028, but there are still a few hurdles to clear before it becomes official.

‘Extend gains': Aussie dollar could surge on US-China trade meeting

The Australian dollar rose to a yearly high on Friday and could break through a key barrier on a US-China trade deal or higher than expected inflation. Australia's dollar jumped to a nine month high of 66.24 US cents on Friday, before slipping to 65.63 cents during Monday's trading. But in its latest trading note, the Commonwealth Bank says the Australian dollar surge could continue this week, as the US continues to announce trading deals following a temporary pause in its tariffs. 'AUD/USD will likely extend its gains this week if US trade developments are perceived to be positive and risk sentiment improves and more trade deals can be announced ahead of the 1 August deadline,' CBA wrote. The big four bank estimates the global effective tariff rate will stand around 20 per cent from August 1. 'The US may announce more trade deals this week ahead of the 1 August deadline and/or an extension to the US-China trade truce, supporting risk sentiment,' CBA wrote. IG market analyst Tony Sycamore highlights positive headlines out of the US that could help the Australian dollar. 'Whether the AUD/USD can extend those gains will likely depend on fresh tariff headlines, and inflation and jobs data in the US,' he said. The US and China will meet in Stockholm on Monday, aimed at tackling longstanding economic disputes between the two countries. The meeting in Sweden, led by US treasury secretary Scott Bessent and China vice premier He Lifeng, comes after the previous 90 day pause on tariffs in June. In June both countries announced more than 100 per cent tariffs on each other in a tit-for-tat escalation between world's two largest economies. This truce will end on August 12, and a failure to reach an agreement will send global supply chains into turmoil as both countries face tariffs of more than 100 per cent. Domestically a higher than expected inflation number could also see the Australian dollar jump. On Wednesday the Australian Bureau of Statistics will announce the CPI reading for the second quarter of this year, with any rise above 0.6 per cent for the quarter putting future rate cuts in doubt. The March quarter inflation figure was 2.4 per cent. AMP chief economist Shane Oliver said a lot of future rate cuts will come down to the CPI print. 'If the CPI is in line or just a little bit higher than the RBA forecast of 2.6 per cent rise in the trimmed mean for the year until June 30 then I think we will get a rate cut,' he said. 'But if it is 2.9 or even 2.8 then the RBA board might think lets wait a little longer.' Mr Sycamore told NewsWire the Aussie dollar won't run until later in the week, on the back of CPI data in Australia and jobs data out of the US on Friday. 'If there is a 4.3 per cent print, it gives the Aussie dollar the green light to push towards the mid 66s,' he said. At the July RBA monetary board meeting, the central bank shocked markets by holding the official cash rate at 3.85 per cent on the back of monthly inflation and jobs figures being stronger than expected. At the time governor Michele Bullock said the central bank could wait for the June quarterly figures to be released. 'Recent monthly CPI indicator data – which can be volatile and does not cover all items in the CPI – were broadly consistent with this expectation,' the RBA board said.

Taylor Swift's dad is recovering from major heart surgery

Taylor Swift's father Scott has undergone major heart surgery. A spokesperson for the Blank Space singer has confirmed that Scott had quintuple bypass surgery last month and is now recovering from the procedure. Taylor, her brother Austin Swift and their mother Andrea Swift are said to have been by his side following the operation, which came after a routine check-up detected the problem with his heart. The Mayo Clinic states: "Coronary artery bypass surgery creates a new path for blood to go around a blocked or partially blocked artery in the heart. "The surgery (often) involves taking a healthy blood vessel from the chest or leg area. The vessel is connected below the blocked heart artery. The new path improves blood flow to the heart muscle." Taylor has often discussed the close relationship she has with her parents and revealed that her mother had been diagnosed with cancer in 2015. She wrote on social media site Tumblr at the time: "I'm writing to you with an update I wish I wasn't giving you, but it's important and I'm used to sharing important events in my life with you. "Usually when things happen to me, I process them and then write music about how I feel, and you hear it much later. This is something my family and I thought you should about now." The 35-year-old singer continued: "I'd like to keep details of her condition and treatment plans private, but she wanted you to know. She wanted you to know why she may not be at as many shows this tour. She's got an important battle to fight." Taylor also wrote a deeply personal essay when her mother's cancer returned in 2019 – which later led to the discovery of brain tumour during her treatment. The Anti-Hero singer wrote in Elle magazine: "It taught me that there are real problems and then there's everything else. My mom's cancer is a real problem. I used to be so anxious about daily ups and downs. "I give all of my worry, stress and prayers to real problems now." Taylor then shared that her father had been diagnosed with the disease previously, although did not give any further details. She wrote: "Both of my parents have had cancer."
