Rs 67 Lakh For A Tesla? India Says, ‘Nice Car, Bro, But Will It Float?'
Last Updated: Many people said the cars are too expensive and self-driving won't work well on India's busy roads. Tesla has officially entered the Indian market with its first showroom in Mumbai, located at Maker Maxity in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). The company has plans for a second outlet in Delhi and has already posted multiple job openings across India. Tesla is also setting up supercharger networks in key cities like Delhi NCR, Mumbai and Bengaluru. According to Hindustan Times, the showroom features the Model Y in both Long-Range RWD and AWD versions, with deliveries expected to begin in August. These electric vehicles are being imported as completely built units (CBUs). Due to India's high import duties—up to 70 per cent—their prices range between Rs 59.9 lakh and Rs 67.9 lakh. While Tesla fans were excited, many Indians on X (formerly Twitter) weren't too thrilled. The steep prices and India's unpredictable roads, along with traffic conditions, became the subject of jokes, memes and sarcastic posts. A user wrote, 'Rs 60 lakh and a 500 km range. Mahindra, Tata, Hyundai — they are more suited for Indian roads. And don't even talk about self-driving here. You are not safe even when you are driving manually." Another post showed a video of a car floating through a flooded street with the caption, 'Tesla is ready for Indian monsoon," poking fun at how unsuitable the car might be for local weather conditions. A funny clip of a man rapping in English while playing a dhol was captioned, 'Tesla cars on Indian roads be like…" capturing the chaos of blending advanced tech with unpredictable road scenarios. An individual sarcastically pointed out, 'Tesla just launched in India. It is priced nearly double compared to other countries." Tesla just launched in India. It's priced nearly 2x compared to other countries. — amrit (@amritwt) July 15, 2025 In addition, memes were everywhere. One showed two people in a wrecked car with the caption, 'Coming back after riding Tesla on self-driving mode in India." *Tesla launched in India*Coming back after riding Tesla on self-driving mode in India — Pakchikpak Raja Babu (@HaramiParindey) July 15, 2025 Another joked, 'After one month with Tesla in India: Reporter – How are you feeling here? Tesla: curses" After one month with Tesla in India:Reporter: How are you feeling here? Tesla: — Shubham Sakhuja (@ishubhamsakhuja) July 15, 2025 Some users also criticised those who expected an affordable Tesla. 'I wonder who thought Tesla would cost Rs 20-25 lakh in India. Absolute jokers," one said. I wonder who are these people (clueless) who really thought Tesla cars in India are going to be around 20-25 lakh. Absolute jokers!— ︎︎︎ ︎ (@Shimographer) July 15, 2025 While Tesla's entry is seen as a premium move, online reactions show that Indians are not holding back their opinions—and memes—about the brand's high price and practicality here. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Assembly's digital museum to showcase its century-long history, key decisions
Patna: The construction of the Bihar Legislative Assembly's state-of-the-art digital museum on 1.74 acres on its premises began earlier this month, after the project received an administrative clearance with an allocated budget of Rs 48.76 crore. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The G+1 storey structure will serve as a digital repository, featuring displays chronicling details about all CMs, speakers and legislators since the establishment of the Bihar Legislative Assembly. Furthermore, the facility will digitally present the century-long history of the legislature and showcase pivotal decisions taken by the assembly, offering visitors a comprehensive view of Bihar's legislative and political legacy. Kumar Ravi, secretary of building construction department — the nodal agency for the project — said that under the guidance of the speaker, they started the construction. "This project is a unique effort to preserve Bihar's rich legislative tradition through modern technology and pass it on to future generations. This museum will not only serve as a digital repository of historical documents but also an inspirational centre for visitors," he said. The digital museum will feature five galleries. A modern auditorium with a capacity of 356 people will be constructed on the ground floor, along with two galleries. The remaining three galleries will be built on first floor. The secretary said additionally, a media gallery with a capacity of 50 people will also be constructed in the digital museum, along with a conference hall with a seating capacity of 50. Shashikant, executive engineer (construction 3, Patna), said the city-based company constructing the facility will have to complete the museum building in 18 months. "The auditorium will have a seating arrangement similar to the house set-up, with a stage in front for the speaker. The interior resembles the assembly's look. The media gallery will be oval-shaped in an open area like the existing one in the assembly on the upper floor," he said. The engineer added: "The design for the exhibits and their number has not been decided yet. But the visitors will get the feel of the functioning of the assembly and its proceedings."
