Time of India4 days ago
Gurgaon: After months of delay, MCG House will constitute its finance and contracts committee (F&CC) on Aug 11. MCG House was constituted on March 12.
"A meeting will be convened as per the directions of the Haryana urban local bodies (ULB) department to form the F&CC," MCG commissioner Pradeep Dahiya said on Wednesday.

Jet With Indian Tricolour Spotted At LA Airport; Internet Calls It ‘Gold Edition'

Last Updated: Aviation enthusiasts in the comments identified the jet as a Boeing 737 MAX 9. A gold, blue, and white Boeing jet parked at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) has gone viral online, with many wondering who it belongs to. The jet, bearing the Indian tricolour on its side, was spotted in a video shared by a popular aviation account on Instagram. 'I have never seen this plane at LAX. Does anyone know what airline this is?" the post read, along with a short clip showing the aircraft parked on the tarmac. The video has been viewed over six million times in three days. Aviation enthusiasts in the comments identified the jet as a Boeing 737 MAX 9. Another joked, 'It's mine." 'Air India gold edition," read a comment. 'The flag indicates India," another comment read. The clip shows only the front portion of the jet, and there is no official confirmation on who owns it. In other Boeing news, around 3,200 machinists at the company's St. Louis-area defence plants are set to go on strike at midnight after rejecting a revised contract that included a 20% wage hike and better retirement benefits. This will be Boeing's first strike at the facility since 1996. Union leaders say workers deserve a contract that reflects their skills and contributions to national defence. The strike will impact production of fighter jets like the F-15, the T-7 trainer, missiles and components for Boeing's 777X aircraft. Boeing says it is prepared with a contingency plan and played down the strike's potential impact, as the St. Louis union is smaller than the one that struck in Seattle in 2024. The rejected deal included Boeing's richest-ever offer for this district, raising average pay from $75,000 to over $100,000. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Boeing defence workers strike for first time in nearly 30 years: 32k machinists reject revised wage, retirement offer; last walkout was in 1996, lasted 99 days

In an unprecedented move, Boeing Co.'s defence workers in St. Louis have initiated their first strike in nearly 30 years after rejecting the company's revised contract proposal. Approximately 3,200 machinists ceased work at midnight following their rejection of an offer featuring a 20% wage increase and enhanced retirement benefits. The last strike action occurred in 1996, lasting 99 days. "IAM District 837 members have spoken loud and clear, they deserve a contract that reflects their skill, dedication, and the critical role they play in our nation's defense," Tom Boelling, the union local's top official, said in a statement ahead of the deadline, as quoted by Bloomberg. The strike poses additional financial challenges for Boeing's defence and space division, which accounts for roughly one-third of company revenue. However, this strike affects a significantly smaller operation compared to the civil aircraft division's walkout last year, which halted Seattle-area production and led to Boeing's nearly £24 billion equity sale. "We are prepared for a strike and have fully implemented our contingency plan to ensure our non-striking workforce can continue supporting our customers," Dan Gillian, a Boeing vice president and senior St. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Knee pain treatment prices might surprise you Knee pain| search ads Find Now Undo Louis site executive, said in a statement, quoted by Bloomberg. The striking workers produce F-15 fighters, T-7 training jets, missiles, munitions and 777X commercial jet components. Boeing secured a contract in March to develop the US's next-generation stealth fighter, the F-47, outbidding Lockheed Martin Corp. Boeing's defence segment reported profits for two consecutive quarters, avoiding previous charges. The division improved its performance on fixed-price development programmes that had caused earlier cost overruns. Aerospace manufacturers have experienced increased union activity, with skilled mechanics gaining bargaining power amid labour shortages. Earlier this year, Pratt & Whitney faced a three-week machinists' strike, affecting Airbus SE engine supplies. Boeing's commercial operations experienced a two-month worker stoppage in late 2024. During the July 29 earnings call, Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg minimised the strike's potential impact, noting the St. Louis union's smaller size compared to Seattle's. On July 31, Gillian told reporters that Boeing had modified its offer to address Local 837 members' concerns following their initial proposal rejection. The revised offer would increase average wages from £75,000 to £102,600 for IAM 837 members. Boeing removed a disputed scheduling proposal and modified 401(k) terms for immediate full contribution increases. The company stated it would withdraw its £5,000 signing bonus if workers didn't ratify the contract on Sunday. Over 3,000 Boeing fighter jet workers went on strike; here's why

More than 3,200 unionised Boeing workers in the St. Louis area and Illinois walked off the job on August 4 after overwhelmingly rejecting a second contract offer from the aerospace giant. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now These workers, who are responsible for assembling key US military aircraft like the F-15 and F/A-18 fighter jets, argue that the proposed agreement falls short of addressing their financial and workplace concerns. As Boeing's defense business grows with new contracts like the F-47A, labor tensions are rising over what union leaders say is a disconnect between the company's profits and the value of its frontline workers. Why Boeing fighter jet workers walked off the job The strike centers around dissatisfaction with Boeing's proposed four-year contract, which included a 20% general wage increase, a $5,000 ratification bonus, and promises of better vacation time and sick leave. Boeing claimed the offer would raise average pay by 40%, but members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers District 837 weren't convinced. They argued that the revised deal was nearly identical to an earlier version that had already been rejected. Workers say Boeing's booming defense operations make it reasonable to expect a contract that keeps pace with rising living costs and recognizes their pivotal role in national security manufacturing. What Boeing's unionised workforce is demanding The workers' demands go beyond higher wages. Union leaders have stressed the need for stronger job security protections, better healthcare benefits, and fairer compensation structures that reflect the growing workload. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now As Boeing increases its defense production, employees are asking for assurances that these new projects won't result in excessive overtime without adequate compensation or the outsourcing of jobs. They also want clearer promotion pathways, more transparent performance evaluations, and increased retirement benefits to support long-term stability for workers and their families. According to District 837 President Tom Boelling, the workers 'deserve a contract that reflects their skill, dedication, and the critical role they play in our nation's defense.' The union sees this strike not just as a wage dispute, but as a stand for respect and investment in the skilled labor force powering Boeing's defense ambitions. Boeing's response to the walkout Boeing expressed disappointment at the rejection and said it was ready for the work stoppage, having implemented contingency plans to keep operations going. Dan Gillian, vice president and general manager of Boeing's St. Louis defense facilities, called the offer 'generous.' CEO Kelly Ortberg downplayed the strike's impact in a call with analysts, citing past experiences with labor action, including a seven-week strike last year by a larger group of commercial aircraft builders in the Northwest. What's at stake for Boeing and US defense projects The walkout affects the assembly of several critical platforms including the F-15, F/A-18, T-7A Red Hawk trainer jet, and MQ-25 Stingray refueling drone. It also raises concerns about possible delays in production of the new F-47A, recently greenlit for the US Air Force. With national security and multi-billion-dollar defense contracts on the line, the strike highlights the tensions between corporate cost control and labor rights — a balancing act Boeing must navigate carefully as it looks to lead the next generation of US military aviation.
