Oman to meet Jordan ahead of Asian meet
On the other side, a 35-member delegation from the Asian Handball Federation (AHF) will arrive in Muscat on Sunday to begin their tasks for the prestigious Asian event.
As part of the ongoing camp, the national team will play two friendly matches against Jordan on Saturday and Sunday. Both matches will serve as a final rehearsal for the coaching staff headed by coach Hamood al Hasani and his assistant coach Jaber al Balushi to evaluate the players' fitness and skill levels and to address both strengths and weaknesses. Also, they will finalise the starting list for the tournament matches.
Oman head coach Hamood al Hasani will supervise the daily training sessions which will be separated into two phases including morning sessions that are focused on indoor training at the sports complex while evening sessions will take place on the sand courts to raise the training intensity as the championship approaches its start.
The coaching staff will opt the final squad of the team on Sunday including 10 players who will represent the national team in the Asian event. The current squad included Nawaf al Hasani, Saud al Hasani, Mohammed al Balushi, Said al Hasani, Yasser al Harthy, Abdulhakim al Siyabi, Bashar al Hinai, Huthaifa al Siyabi, Asaad al Hasani, Ali al Jami, Muhannad al Zarafi, Mahdi al Sulaimani and Said al Hasani.

Oman Handball Association (OHA) Chairman, Moosa Khamis al Balushi, along with the board of directors, met the players in the camp to ensure close follow up on the team's preparations and to achieve full readiness. The chairman and board members met the players and coaching staff as they encouraged them to double their efforts, maintain high focus and work as a unified team.
They praised the technical and administrative staff, along with the players, for their dedication and commitment to training to compete for the Asian title.
Oman is clubbed with Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong and Maldives in Group A at the 10th AHF Asian Men's Beach Handball championship. Group B comprised of Iran, Philippines, Jordan, Pakistan and India. The women's competition will feature only four teams in one group only including Vietnam, Hong Kong, Philippines and India.
Dr Salim al Ghilani, Head of the Medical Committee, affirmed the committee's full readiness to provide the necessary medical support throughout the tournament to ensure the safety of all players and teams. 'The committee included over 20 members from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, and the Ministry of Health. The on-field medical teams are equipped with the latest emergency equipment, and specialised medical crews will be stationed at game venues, with additional rotating teams covering the hotels,' he said.

Oman U-19 handball team gears up for Asian Youth Games in Bahrain
MUSCAT, July 31 The Oman U-19 national handball team will kick off its initial phase of preparations for the upcoming third Asian Youth Games on Saturday with a one-full day training camp scheduled to take place at the indoor hall of Oman Club. The multi-sport event is set to be hosted by Bahrain from October 22 to 31, and will see the participation of 45 countries across 24 sports, including handball which will begin on October 19, prior to the official opening ceremony. Oman team's last appearance in the Asian Men's Youth Handball Championship was in July 2024 in Jordan, which served as a key developmental experience for many of the current players. This first training session for the team will aim to assess the current squad of 32 players, allowing the technical team led by national head coach Yahya al Mashari and his assistant Hassan al Mamari to evaluate the players' technical and physical capabilities as well as their discipline and responsiveness to coaching instructions. Based on these assessments, the coaching staff will shortlist the best talents who will advance to the intensive preparation phase in the coming weeks leading to the continental event. The Oman Handball Association (OHA) is committed to supporting national teams at all levels and continue development through regional and continental participation. As part of its preparation plan, the team will undergo both domestic and international training camps and is expected to play several friendly matches in the coming days to accustom players to competitive match conditions. Oman placed in Pot 1 for AFC U17 Asian Cup qualifiers draw
MUSCAT, July 28 The Oman Under-17 team was placed in the first pot for the upcoming AFC U17 Asian Cup qualifiers draw which is scheduled to take place on August 7 at the headquarters of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Being seeded in Pot 1 was based to the national team's results in the last edition of AFC Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia besides the 2023 edition of the same event. The top-seeded teams in Pot 1 included: Oman, Australia, Yemen, Iran, Thailand, China and Vietnam. These teams are considered regional powerhouses based on their recent performances and rankings at the continental level. The draw will also include teams placed in other pots according to their seeding as Pot 2 featured teams of Afghanistan, India, Malaysia, Iraq, Bangladesh, Laos and Kuwait. Bahrain are placed in Pot 3 besides Myanmar, Philippines, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Palestine. Pot 4 comprised Syria, Mongolia, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Jordan, Chinese Taipei and Brunei while Pot 5 saw teams of Nepal, Bhutan, Mariana Islands, Guam, Maldives, Timor-Leste and Lebanon. The last and concluding Pot 6 included: Macau, Sri Lanka and Pakistan teams. The qualifying matches are scheduled for November 2025 as the top teams will book their tickets to the AFC U17 Asian Cup finals while it is expected to be opportunities for the best runners up to join the teams in the Asian finals. In preparation for the qualifiers, the Oman Football Association (OFA) is expected to announce a new coaching team soon following the replacement of coach Anwar al Habsi, the former head coach. The announcement will be part of the OFA's wider plan to enhance technical readiness and ensure optimal performance during the qualifiers. Oman's U17 side showed solid performance during the AFC U17 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2025 which was held earlier in April. Despite the top performance by Oman team boys, the team narrowly missed out on qualification to the Fifa U17 World Cup. Oman began their campaign with a 2-1 loss to Tajikistan, but bounced back impressively with a historic 2-1 win over Iran, followed by a 2-2 draw with North Korea. Unfortunately, the result against North Korea meant Oman finished third in Group D with four points, just one short of North Korea's five points, who advanced as group runners-up. Tajikistan topped the group after stunning Iran 3-1 in the final group match.

Al Balushi wins Asian Taekwondo bronze in Malaysia
MUSCAT, JULY 27 Omani national taekwondo team player, Junior Qaboos al Balushi, achieved a remarkable milestone for Omani sports by securing the bronze medal at the 2025 Asian Taekwondo Championships. The event is currently taking place in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia, with the participation of over 1,300 male and female athletes from 44 countries, including 406 junior athletes from 36 nations. Al Balushi, a member of Al Seeb Stars Taekwondo Academy under Master Waleed al Balushi, competed in the under-51 kg category. He advanced past the first round by draw, then delivered a strong performance in the second round by defeating a Malaysian player. In the semifinals, he faced a tough challenge from a Chinese opponent and, after a competitive bout, settled for a well-earned bronze medal. Qaboos al Balushi was the only member of the Omani team to stand on the podium at this prestigious continental event, claiming third place and adding a new achievement to Oman's taekwondo history. His performance reflects both his promising talent and the progress he has made, despite the tough level of competition. The national team delegation included the technical staff led by Master Fahd al Yousfi and coach Adel al Wahibi, as well as Dr Khalid al Mahrami, member of the Oman Taekwondo Committee. All praised Al Balushi's high-level performance against some of Asia's top athletes. Oman's representation in the championship featured a selection of talented male and female athletes: Muhannad al Balushi, Mutasim al Maskari, Ziyad al Balushi, Dawood al Yousfi, Aws al Sibani, and Qaboos al Balushi, along with female athletes Fida al Barwani, Dania al Abdali, and Rawan al Talai. Their participation was organised by the Oman Taekwondo Committee as part of its effort to support and develop youth athletes for international competitions. Eng Faisal al Zadjali, President of Al Seeb Stars Academy and a member of the Oman Taekwondo Committee, described the national team's participation in the 2025 Asian Junior and Youth Championships in Malaysia as honorable and filled with positive signs for the future of the sport in Oman. He especially praised Al Balushi's historic bronze medal, which marks the first youth-level Asian achievement for the Sultanate of Oman. Al Zadjali emphasised that the results inspire optimism, noting that the Asian Championships are considered the second most competitive event in the continent after the World Championships. Reaching the advanced rounds is an achievement in itself, given the presence of strong teams like Korea, China and Iran. He explained that Al Balushi's success was the result of a full year of comprehensive preparation at the academy, which included intensive training programmes, camps, match simulations, and performance analysis. This training model, he noted, is applied to all academy athletes, not just those participating internationally. He also highlighted the vital role of sports academies in talent discovery and development, pointing to a strategic partnership between Al Seeb Stars Academy and the Oman Taekwondo Committee aimed at supplying the national teams with ready and competitive athletes. Al Zadjali concluded by noting that upcoming international competitions are on the team's agenda, and that qualifying for the World Championships and the Olympics is among their long-term strategic goals. The championship is held under the supervision of the Asian Taekwondo Union (ATU) and World Taekwondo (WT), featuring various categories for juniors, cadets, and para athletes. It is considered one of the largest continental championships in the sport's history. This achievement reflects the continuous efforts of Omani sports academies in developing and preparing young athletes for international participation.
