King Charles III resumes public duties following treatment for cancer
King Charles III resumed public duties after doctors say they were pleased with King's response to cancer treatment.
King Charles III is taking on an unexpected new role: radio DJ.
Charles hosted an Apple Music broadcast released Monday called "The King's Music Room," in which he played a selection of favorite songs and spoke about each one. Charles described this as an "interesting and innovative" way to celebrate Commonwealth Day, as the tracks "originated from across the Commonwealth family and other parts of the world."
On the show, Charles reflected that music "has that remarkable ability to bring happy memories flooding back from the deepest recesses of our memory" and said he would highlight "songs which have brought me joy." According to Apple Music, the show was recorded in Charles' office at Buckingham Palace.
The king's first pick was "Could You Be Loved" by Bob Marley and the Wailers. Charles noted that he once met Marley, who had a "marvelous, infectious energy," "deep sincerity" and "profound concern for his community." He transitioned into "My Boy Lollipop" from another Jamaican singer, Millie Small.
Next up was Kylie Minogue's "The Loco-Motion," which Charles described as "music for dancing" that has "that infectious energy" that makes it "incredibly hard to sit still." Moving back to the 1920s, Charles said Al Bowlly's "The Very Thought of You" is a tune that his "much-loved grandmother" used to play.
"This was an era of songs made memorable by brilliant lyrics, incredible bands and unstoppable rhythm," he said.
Before next playing "the superb" Grace Jones' version of "La Vie En Rose," Charles asked, "Is it possible to improve on such a classic song? See what you think."
The king subsequently praised Raye, who was nominated for best new artist at the 2025 Grammys, as "one of our most exciting and acclaimed contemporary singer-songwriters" and played her song "Love Me Again."
"Anyone who saw Raye perform at the Grammy Awards will know that she is a great ambassador for British music," he said.

After remembering his visits to Ghana over the years, Charles played "Mpempem Do Me" by Daddy Lumba, "who is regarded by some as the greatest musician Ghana has ever produced," and also selected "KANTE" by Davido and "The Click Song" by Miriam Makeba.
Charles also said he has been "more than fortunate to know the incredibly talented" Jools Holland and played his and Ruby Turner's song "My Country Man," calling Turner "another unstoppable phenomenon." He followed this up with "Indian Summer" by Anoushka Shankar, "Anta Permana" by Siti Nurhaliza and "E Te Iwi E (Call to the People)" by Kiri Te Kanawa.
Charles closed the show with "Haven't Met You Yet" by Michael Bublé, "Hot Hot Hot" by Arrow, "Crazy in Love" by Beyoncé and finally "Upside Down" by Diana Ross. He said Beyoncé is "so exceptional" that he "just could not resist including her music," and he also congratulated her for winning album of the year for the first time at the Grammys last month.

Charles added that Ross' "Upside Down" is "one of my particular favorites" and recalled that when he was younger, "it was absolutely impossible not to get up and dance when it was played."
"I wonder if I can still just manage it," he joked.
Near the end of the show, Charles said that he hopes listeners discovered some "new and interesting" songs from "the wonderfully diverse tapestry that makes up the modern Commonwealth, with its rich pattern of cultures that it continues to share with peoples across the entire world."

‘Top Boy' Actor Michael Ward Accused Of Rape And Sexual Assault In UK
Source: SAMEER AL-DOUMY / Getty Michael Ward, the British actor known for his role in Netflix 's popular series Top Boy has been charged with rape and sexual assault connected to alleged events that took place in 2023. The 27-year-old Jamaican-born performer is slated to appear before the Thames Magistrates' Court on Thursday, Aug. 28 to answer to the charges, People reports. He is currently facing two counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault levied by an accuser who remains unnamed by UK police. 'Our specialist officers continue to support the woman who has come forward – we know investigations of this nature can have significant impact on those who make reports,' said Detective Superintendent Scott Ware, whose team is leading the investigation for Metropolitan Police. Ward has not been arrested in connection to the crime and will appear before the court under his own free will. The young actor has been making a name for himself over the last few years appearing in projects like The Book of Clarence, The Beautiful Game and The Old Guard. He also received rave reviews for his work in The A List prior to his breakout role as Jamie on the Drake-produced Top Boy . 'I deny the charges against me entirely. I have cooperated fully with the police throughout their investigation and will continue to cooperate,' Ward said in a statement amid the charges. 'I recognise that proceedings are now ongoing, and I have full faith that they will lead to my name being cleared. Given those proceedings, I am unable to comment further.' Though the allegations against Ward are serious, the deputy chief crown prosecutor for CPS London South, Catherine Baccas, has asked that the public allow the actor his right to a fair trial before rushing to judgment. 'Having carefully reviewed a file of evidence, the Crown Prosecution Service has authorised the Metropolitan police to charge Micheal Ward, 27, with two counts of rape, two counts of assault by penetration, and one count of sexual assault against a woman in January 2023,' said Baccas in a statement. 'We remind all concerned that proceedings against the suspect are active and he has a right to a fair trial. It is vital that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.' Stephen King's 'It: Welcome to Derry' prequel for HBO gets first look
SAN DIEGO – Two hit 'It' movies told much of the epic story of Stephen King's seminal horror novel. Yet at 1,100-plus pages, there was still a lot left over for a TV series. Director Andy Muschietti teams again with his sister (and fellow producer) Barbara Muschietti for the prequel 'It: Welcome to Derry' (premiering in October on HBO and HBO Max). With a first season set in 1962, the show will plumb the tragic history of the cursed Maine town of Derry – told via interludes written by Losers Club historian Mike Hanlon in King's book – plus feature the return of that evil clown Pennywise (Bill Skarsgård). Join our Watch Party! Sign up to receive USA TODAY's movie and TV recommendations right in your inbox On Saturday, July 26, during a Comic-Con panel for 'Derry,' the Muschiettis premiered a new trailer, plus debuted the opening 10 minutes. A young boy gets caught sneaking into the movies and then tries to hitchhike out of Derry, too old to be sucking on a pacifier but needing it to calm himself. He's picked up by a seemingly ordinary family heading to Portland, but the kid quickly realizes they're headed back to Derry, these people are really weird, and the mom gives birth very graphically in the car to a demon baby with wings and two heads. 'The series is all like this,' Andy Muschietti warned afterward with a laugh. It was important to the team that even though the storytelling format changed, 'we still have the same level of intensity and scariness,' Barbara Muschietti said. Her brother added the show is actually more intense than the movies: 'We got away with a lot and that's the stuff you'll be excited about.' Andy Muschietti was 'exhausted but excited' after directing the films, he said, and always fantasized about doing the origin story of how It became Pennywise. Plus, there were historical moments from the book mentioned in the movie – the burning of the Black Spot juke joint, the Bradley Gang massacre, the Kitchener Ironworks explosion – that were the basis to what Muschietti wanted to explore with an 'It' show. King was excited about the show, plus it was his idea for the series to go back in time to hit the 27-year cycles where Pennywise is unleashed. While the first season takes place in 1962, 'Derry' could then move to 1935 and 1908 'in theory,' Andy Muschietti said. 'There's a reason why it goes backward and we can't tell you why.' The show's characters will connect with those from the movies. Mike's grandfather Leroy Hanlon (Jovan Adepo) is the main character of the first season, as he and wife Charlotte (Taylour Paige) move their family to Derry and quickly realize the place is seriously off. There are other parts of King canon as well: A Shawshank State Prison bus is seen in the trailer, and Dick Hallorann, a key character in 'The Shining' who has a small role in the 'It' novel, is a significant player in 'Derry' as played by Chris Chalk. 'One of the most fascinating things about the book is the cryptic factor,' Andy Muschietti said. 'You hear certain things, you get to the end of the book, but you don't know what It is. We're going to ruin all this. We're unveiling all these mysteries, but with very good taste.' And you can't have 'It' without Skarsgård, and his Pennywise is still quite unsettling. 'I got used to it. Barbie, not so much,' Andy Muschietti said. 'The things he brings to this show are incredible.' He says, ' 'Let's order some pizza,' and I'm like, 'I can't look at you,' ' Barbara Muschietti said. 'It's the eyes that get you.'
